Interestingly, UW football ticket sales down significantly

They spent $250 million on a stadium renovation that added no seats and basically just gave their fans more legroom. They jacked up the hell out of ticket prices, scooted their long term season ticket holders further towards the end zone, meanwhile continuing to field mediocrity. Will get even uglier next year when they post a 4-8, 3-9 type of season.

The Seahawks success is taking its toll on UW ticket sales. All of the up for grabs fans are wearing "12" jerseys.

Good point. Seahawks dominate the Seattle area. It's unreal. I don't pay attention to the pre-season games/schedule, but it's easy to know when game day is here with all the fans wearing jerseys. The Seahawks must be rolling in the dough with their merchandizing. Just think if they had won the last Super Bowl too.

HD TV is taking fans out of seats in almost every stadium. Fans can see their team on TV from the comfort of the couch and they like it. It will take time for different schools to adjust to this, but as it stands now it is not mandatory to be at the game. One good reason Moos hasn't considered adding seats, and ASU is reducing their capacity by 10 to 15 thousand in the new SDS.

The other thing taking it's toll on attendance is "floating" game times. UW used to start at 12:30 every Saturday, WSU was always 2:00, when the start time is anywhere between noon and 8 pm it makes it difficult to plan for a season ticket holder, then you throw in a Thursday or Friday game on top of it. Makes for great TV, but a little more difficult for the ticket holder.

Another reason could be the traffic. "Seattle is no fun anymore". Seattle leads the USA in jobs, if not North America. The Seattle Gold Rush is on, and another ONE million more people are scheduled to come here in the next 10 years. 1,300 a month are moving to Seattle. Traffic is so bad, why deal with it on your day off, when you have a decent HD setup at home? This also could be a contributing factor. The solution? Olympia needs to enforce to our 15 major employers, "cease hiring canidates from out of state", or WSDOT needs to add a double decker to 405 and I-5, (very unlikely in our lifetime). The new light rail won't be our Savior. Demand is too high.

Pretty soon they will be covering the top half of the stadium seats like the Sounders do.

UW really alienated their season ticket holders by jacking up their prices and moving them around. I know more than a few die hards that threw in the towel. There perspective is, ticket are a plenty, so why pay a premium when you don't need too.

The Seahawks are Seattle's team. UW is probably 3rd fiddle behind the Sounders. Mariners are a disaster.
