Island of the misfits.... hello

Ah, CD, a mention of the lard king of scouting evaluations...it was my understanding that Merriam-Webster considered adding his picture to the definition of "homer", but were afraid of scaring children, so nixed the idea.

I never thought they would follow through and blacklist me either. They threatened a couple of times a year. Greg Witter saved me as long as I appologized. Well, I’m done appologizing for my opinion. Lately they have been calling criticism ‘customer service issues’ and that the ‘complaints’ shouldn’t be discussed on the message board. Basically, any negativity towards the content of the site was a no go. You must submit or there isn’t a place for you.

Sad, because dgibbons and I helped build that site through our demand of fair evaluations, videos and content..... this when Fetters controlled everything out of Seattle. We changed Scout for the better when we got Chris fired as the head of scouting for the NW........
Hopefully your transition will lead to other more meaningful posters fleeing that blackhole of message board at Brand X and coming here for more enlighted uncensored Coug FB banter.

Lies. Damn lies.

The government deserves none of our money...no matter how much or how little any of us makes.

Vote D if you want less freedom and bigger government to control your life. Let's remember that the areas of the country with the highest income inequality have the highest percentage of Democrat voters. Imagine that.
Well...if they don't deserve any of our money how do we pay for the military for example? Or how do we fund the now corrupt FBI? I guess I am at a loss. Call it like it is....you just don't like how our money is being spent. Just to protect Trumps family it is 3 mill a day.

Control my life? Hmmm....seems like on many issues there is a morality play that seems to have a bit of control. Interesting take however.

Ed...the key word is "deserve" Please read carefully.

You also failed to address this point....

No. Politics. On. This. Board. Ever. Ever. Ever.

What's to address? Funny you frame it just like that. Somehow I got stuck on a political email with my father and his friends. He remarked how Chicago and Detroit have such inner city problems and it is likely that is is because they vote for the Democratic candidates. I thought that was a fairly simplistic answer. So I answered his question as I often do with a question of my own. The top ten most impoverished states are the most red states in the union. All have Republican senators. How would one reconcile that fact? I suggested to him maybe the answer is as simple as voting Republican for mayor positions and Democrat for senate positions. Seems a bit too simple of a solution to the problem, but the answer to the inner city problem seemed a bit too simplistic as well.

When you say the word "deserve", do you mean the military doesn't "deserve" our financial support? Interesting.

And getting to the question you want addressed....are you wanting a total wealth redistribution? Really what does income inequality have to do with it? Hey, I can go along for the tax cut to corporations if people really believe that wages will rise because of it and jobs will be created. As someone who voted for Reagan I believed when the big dogs ate there was a velocity of money that would flow down hill. And if this was 1980 again, I would probably support such legislation cause it made sense.

The problem is it isn't 1980. Jobs weren't off shored like they are now. The computer and the net allows simple mortgage clerical work to be done in the Philippines for a buck an hour vs paying 16 bucks an hour in Seattle or Maitland Florida for example.

Big mortgage companies decided to offshore their clerical work before the downfall of 08. They didn't do it because of cumbersome legislation or Dodd Frank, but rather because labor was cheaper and it meant a healthier bottom line.

It is all about the bottom line, because if they don't meet estimates they get hammered by Wall Street. So yeah, I would have probably been in support of a tax cut if it had guidelines how they were going to spend the money. If wages didn't increase, if new jobs weren't created, then the following years they would slowly make up for the tax cuts that were given by a tax increase.

All they did was make the debt go up even further. It was interesting when Gary Cohen in a speech to top level CEO's asked for a show of hands from about 50 CEO's that would reinvest that capital into human capital and wages. Two out of 50 said that is what they would do with the tax cut.

One thing that is never discussed is these companies for the last 10 years have literally received free money. I remember standing at my daughters soccer game and a very high profile CEO in the Puget Sound area was talking to me as our kids played and he floored me when he said his company is borrowing 30 year money below 1%. They came up with things to buy because the money was ridiculous.

One last question--have you ever heard Gates, Allen, Warren Buffett ever complain about the taxes they pay? Maybe the line "Make America Great Again" meant going to the tax codes of the 1950's.

Too long Ed.

You feel free to write me a check for your tax savings to assuage your guilt. I'll spend it for you. Or perhaps write a check to the government because of your guilt of not paying them enough? They would be happy to take it.

I won't hold my breath. You won't do that.

Still awaiting your explanation of why the areas with the highest percentage of progressives also have the highest income inequality? They could certainly vote themselves high taxes to redistribute the wealth as they control the political landscape in those areas.

Try to not deflect as you usually do. Ok bud? Focus like a laser beam.

PS. NO ONE is stopping Gates, Buffett et al from paying more taxes than they owe. I can assure you that they don't do that as they put their money to good use.

How —-why do you pretend to know what I will do with my tax savings that I am sure I won’t be getting ? Maybe I will do what the corporations will do is put it in their pocket. Also the oroggresive areas may have much higher top end income like the Seattle Bellevue area . But tell me the areas of which you speak and I would address it.

Are the progressives in the areas you speak of asking for a tax cut for them ?

The problem with the tax cut is simply putting it on the credit card for another generation. That money doesn’t trickle down . They aren’t adding positions they don’t need . They aren’t givjng raises above market ate just to give them . The tax cut is billed as a way to create higher paying jobs. It is being billed as a way for corporations to reinvest in projects to put higher paying jobs in the market place . They could have written the code where the was a structure where corporations would be rewarded for investing in new projects . What happens when it goes to top exec comp and stock buybacks .? And tell me how the cut is going to be paid for ?

I have debated with myself if I want go in here, but here is goes:
  1. History repeats itself. We are creatures of habit. We never learn. We want to forget.
  2. Extreme nationalize leads to war between nations.
  3. The League Nations was Pres. Wilson's idea. It did not work because USA would not participate. What is happening with the United Nations and our allies. We are driving them away.
  4. Reagan started trickle down. The middle class has been loosing ever since. The rich gets richer, the poor get poorer, and the middle class flatlines.
  5. We are manufacturing more goods than in any time in the history of this country. It is just being done by machines.
  6. Rewarding companies on their taxes for investments, will lead to more robotics.
  7. Bonuses are not salary increases.
  8. Companies will reward their share holders not employees.
  9. Unions improve worker conditions at a time where their conditions where in human.
  10. Unions went to far and started making companies less competitive, therefore the war on Unions.
  11. Now that the Unions do not have much power, employees will be without protections.
  12. When a country has extreme differences between the have and have nots it leads to conflict (revolution). In our country it should happen at the polls.
  13. Fascism leads to socialism. The pendelium must swing.
  14. The first Back president lead to White alpha male president. The pendelium must swing.
  15. Moderates it both parties are silenced.
  16. Our country was founded on religious freedom, now we have those that want religion brought to politics.
  17. I could go on and on. This country needs to find away were both sides are forced to compromise. I guess needs to get worst before it can get better. I pray the moderates are listened to some time in the near future. Just saying.

I've been told many times in the past 10 year that I'm a Rhino (Republican in name only) because I don't have radical conservative views and I think that compromise is important in order to reach the best solution. I wish that there was an actual Rhino party that moderates of both parties could flock to.

Yeah, pipp misjudged the ball. But it’s tough when you have split seconds to act. Hindsight, he should have let the ball go..... it was uncarchable A is the answer.

"Trickle down" is a completely meaningless economic term conjured up by the left to exploit class divisions. It means nothing.

To address your point 16, we have a government that is forcing religious people to violate their conscience. Is that your idea of govt supporting "religious freedom"?

Let us remember that from 2008-09 one party dominated federal elected branches of govt and didn't do anything with the tax code to address so-called economic inequality. In fact, Obama extended the Bush tax cuts. I'm not complaining. Just pointing out the hypocrisy. The gap between the rich and the poor increased under Obama. I bet you didn't know that.

Government will take as much money as we transfer to them. Don't forget that. It is never enough. Did you know that when the income tax started originally the tax rate was just 1%? That is how far the government has grown to take more of our hard earned money and waste much of it. ( and I'm not advocating going as low as a 1% fed tax rate either).

Finally, Flat is kind of an idiot on tax and economic policy. Seriously clueless.

Have a nice Christmas.

The United Nations is a complete joke. It is also anti-American...and has been for years. So happy to hear what Haley said. We will indeed remember. How dare those Western European countries vote like they did on doing exactly what prior presidents like Obama, both Bushes, Clinton, etc COMMITTED to doing previously. Can you name another country where we don't have our embassy located in its capital city? I can't. Maybe you can enlighten me.

You didn't answer my question.

First, just to be a grammar cop.....to espouse is to adopt or support. So I don't espouse any radical conservative ideas. As far as what I consider radical conservative ideas are, here's a sampling of the tea party's greatest hits......
  • complete elimination of "entitlement" programs
  • reduction in public education spending to provide education credits to wealthy, christian, private schools
  • abortion bans that extended to cases where the mother was likely to die
  • complete elimination of gun laws
  • trickle down economics
A few of those items above have merit if not carried to an extreme, but unfortunately, American politics today is all about the extreme.

If you are talking about the US Embassy in Israel you are off base here. None of the previous presidents carried out the Jerusalem mandate because it was not a smart thing to do. 4 in a row. But Trump is smarter than all 4 of them?

And there is a reason why no other countries have their embassies there.

I think it is time to quit this political talk before some people take a real dislike to each other.

Maybe that has already happened as people show and fly their colors.People who are now secure will soon find out that things are very different than they imagine them to be.

The recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital was supposed to be used as a bargaining chip. Other presidents recognized that and backed off.

I agree the gap between rich and poor, more importantly the rich and middle class has grown under both GOP and Dem presidents since Reagan. Under Bill Clinton with a GOP congress regulations were taken off banking. We all know how that worked out. Both party are pushing each other to the extremes. They will not compromise.

In Texas our GOP politicians make the Tea Party look like liberals. In New Mexico, I supported the GOP governor she was more moderate. Dem legislature were radical and would not accept accountability in education. We cannot have an intelligent discussion in my own family on politics because of the extreme views. I thought a democracy was about coming to agreement, not forcing unpopular things down each other throats. What do I know?

I like this guy. I have similar issues with the approaches taken in my boting lifetime. The secret to both parties. At least it seems to me, is their ability to push people to the edges and out of any form of meaningful debate.

I liken it to my issues with my mother in law. We agree on the vast majority of things, but she will whittle it down to minutia that we disagree on and make that her basis for argument. Seems very similar to the current political environment. I also agree with Flat somewhat. If there were some middle ground party it would fit a majority of people in the country, even though that is not how it seems right now.

The incoming tidal wave will be something to watch, as people are now realizing the importance of voting.

This thread is old and I, along with TX am concerned about talking but I thought Jake Tapper was very succinct in the UN situation.

Also find this tweet to be incredibly awesome.

Smart thing to do? Palestinian leadership has no interest in peace. Jerusalem is the only capital city in which we don't have our embassy based. It makes no sense...and hasn't worked as a bargaining chip tp keep it out of there for decades.

By the way, "trickle down economics" means nothing. It is not an economic term. It is a political term.

Also, looking forward to you and Ed (and Tx?l writing a check to the US Treasury that exceeds what you owe them. Because...you know...the government needs it.

There is no reasoning with you on this subject. I have Trump supporters in my family. They cannot be reasoned with either. The Trump supporters in my family are our less educated members.

As far as cutting taxes to increase salaries and increase jobs for the middle class, history shows that this has not worked since Kennedy did it. The divide between the haves and have nots leads to unrest, particularly as it affects the middle class.

As far as not having a national curriculum and funding going into education, history shows the alternative is building more prisons.

As far as my political leaning, my candidate was Jeb Bush a moderate with a strong support of Common Core. The need for Common Core was something the governors came up with. It would safe money throughout the country on public education and prepare American students for jobs we have to fill currently with foreign nationals. Just look at Special Education teachers, science teachers, math teachers, nurses, doctors, the tech industry, etc.

Trump is causing problems for us all over the world. I am surprise the republican party has not reigned him in. I though W embarrassed this country at times. Compared to Trump, W was polished.

I could go on, but I see when if Ed went over so many words it taxed you.

Well...you are clearly more educated than I am.

Looking forward to seeing your overpayment of owed taxes to the government. Please do show us your generosity.

Estimates are that I'm getting north of $3500 in tax savings due to the recent tax bill. I can assure you that I won't be sending that to the US Treasury to help them out.

Health insurance costs have been going up for many years.

Mine is staying steady.

Getting so sick of winning.

By the way, the "educated" and intelligentsia were all big supporters of the Nazi Party in 1930s/40s Germany and in Communist USSR. Look it up if you doubt my lack of education on this. Have a nice day.
