USC came into the game with a patchwork Oline. We gambled we could get rush home before Slovis could get it out to his receivers. Unfortunately just so happened we lost our big corners & a safety but we still went for it. Didn’t get our rush home. Secondary was still in the right spots but they just cannot match those players. USC got momentum and started to roll. We adjusted and stopped them in the second on.

De Laura had a bad night on the T.O. front and unfortunately we couldnt use McIntosh like we should have. It was a bad game.

No doubt next year with a full team and no Covid attrition we compete with just about anyone in the conference. People saying otherwise are emotional.

Chugs, on most of the big plays the secondary was not in the right place, and was in a panic as they overran the receiver when he caught it. No receiver on a short route should get 15 more yards, but that was a consistent thing in the first half. Giving credit where due, the second half was different. The guys were, in fact, in position more often than not, and they did not overrun. It was a tale of two cities...or maybe two halves.

Maybe I was too buzzed but I remember on a few of the TDs just feeling bad for the CBs that were getting Mossed. They weren’t out of range, they just were not good enough to make plays on NFL receivers. At other areas of the field, those plays don’t stand out in my mind. I have no doubt we got routinely beat badly at times.

K I’m not gonna piss and moan about referees all day and clearly not why we lost this game, but on the first long run and catch there was an obvious clip on one of our DBs in the middle of the play when he was about to tackle the receiver for about an 8 yard gain. Two hand shove right in the back dude went flying on his face about 5 yards, receiver has a clear path to turn it up field another 15 yards. When something that glaringly obvious goes completely ignored the only remedy is to get dirty and we didn’t. SC figured out real quick it was no holds barred and brought the brass knuckles out after that. Sometimes there’s other things at play, and they all showed up in 15 ugly minutes.

Is it possible that we were rushing extra guys because the DC knew that our inexperienced and depleted secondary would get roasted if Slovis had time?

Just going to add this....George Hicks is HORRIBLE. Almost as bad as number 37 on defense.
