There's some of that (although I think politics outweighs it). The part I don't understand is that I've seen them say they're putting it a week or two ahead to give schools, businesses, etc. "time to prepare."

I don't know what they're preparing that requires a week or more. Seems pretty simple to me - people stop wearing masks, and you stop telling them they're supposed to. That doesn't take a week.

These plans to drop the mandates are hitting home with me. In two weeks, our son gets married in Hawaii, which requires proof of vaccination (uploaded to a website) and had strongly considered requiring boosters as well (since dropped that idea). We have one family member who isn't vaccinated due to concerns with her pregnancy and a 4-year old grandson who will turn 5 just two days before we leave. He can't get the vaccine until he's 5 but is required to be vaccinated before going to Hawaii. Leaves us little time in case he reacts to the vaccine. The alternative for both family members is proof of a negative test from an approved testing facility (closest one is 90 minutes away) within 72 hours of arrival in Hawaii, so we are keeping fingers crossed that everything works out for the entire family. We just found out that Hawaii is dropping all these requirements.....a week after we will be in the islands. Sure wish they could simply drop the requirements at the same time they have announced it.

It's important to remember that in any given election, around 50 million people will always vote Republican and around 50 million people will always vote Democrat. There's another 10-20 million people who aren't wearing team sports colors and switch their votes depending on how they feel. Now, because so many people absolutely hated both candidates, we had a record turnout in 2020 and it turned out that more people hated Donald Trump than Biden. Anyone with a shred of objectivity knows that 82 million votes was not any kind of meaningful support for Biden. I voted for Biden because I can't stand Donald Trump and have hated him and everything about him long before he was President. He's the only GOP nominee that I didn't vote for and I'll never vote for him.

What always amuses me is that both sides are willing to say things like this about the other, and both are right. Neither cares what the rules are or what the truth is, as long as it benefits them.

I think the Dems are still - usually - trying to be sneaky about it and claim they were misquoted, misinterpreted, or that circumstances have changed. We are making our first trek to Hawaii this summer. Oahu to start with (only because I want to see Pearl Harbor) and then four days on Kauai. My daughter is dating a kid from there and will stay the rest of the summer with his family working in their swimwear shop on the beach for $20/hour. Free room & board, summer on the beach in Hawaii....it's going to be rough on her.
