Leach to U. of Houston?

Stay in reality, stick within a 2.75mil or less budget, but whom would be this "home run" that you speak of that would be willing to come in and breathe life into a program the vaunted Mike Leach couldn't? Names that you would consider "Home Runs" and be willing to be paid under $2.75 mill.

This is all a mental exercise because I'll be honest, I don't see CML leaving until he's either fired, or he turns our program around, to whatever extent. This year there is no way to spin that our program is "turned around". I just don't see him going. And I'm happy for that.

No Yaki..read the word "many times" and when was that post

made? Subsequent to that post , I pulled over my "car" and someone called me and gave me those words to live by today. "He is not leaving". So I will stick to it.

But since you pulled out a quote, that was to 95's assertion Chinook was being negative. Just pointing out in many cases a coach could jump ship. Walden, Erickson many times, Sarkisian, Price...I am here to stay, then they are on the next plane.

"Key West?" ?????

How in the world is that relevant to the discussion? Might as well toss in the Amazon Basin......

It's show business, not show friends.

We don't know why those guys are gone but, I think it's because Leach stays.

I think the Houston job is real, and I think like every single one of you would... considered that strategy but, I think, in the end, he's staying. Walden did it. Erickson did it and left, Price did it and stayed several times, sans one. Like Ed says, Leach wants to see this through. I think so, too. I hope he does.

I used the word 'panic' re: recruiting earlier. I think it's more accurate to say change of tact. I think losing the commits we did, necessitated this. I think Leach is bringing in JC talent to be stacked and winning two years from now.

Yaki...it is not that hard to understand...some people think the continuity

at the time was a better option than picking up an assistant coach from say Utah. Some times it is better what you know vs what you don't know. It appeared after the third year with a young QB and a young WR, plus Mizel, Hoffman Ellis etc. inroads were being made. It would be no different than saying Luke Falk, Morrow, Madison and others provided us with optimism.

If we say the Leach tenure was a failure to this date, and say I whole-heartily believed that, does that mean I feel the best option is to seek another option, say Beau Baldwin? No. There have been set backs, there has been progress, and let play out. If after 2016 things haven't improved then dump him.

For as smart as you tell us that you are, you have a very simplistic way at looking at things.

leach will win next year. They will have a better defense and a better QB.One hopes that the new defensive coordinator, whomever, Mr. Ed has designated, will be a take charge guy who will make a big difference.

Vaunted only in the minds of Coug fans, who wanted a big name? Who exactly was clammering for Leach besides us? The thing about great hires is, it is an art, not a science. Bob Podunk from nowhere U could be the perfect home run hire. While Mike Leach could still be a very expense mistake. One thing is certain, if Leach were to bail, it is because he recognizes he is sinking at WSU. You don't do a competitive downgrade move to a team in an unknown conference (AAC) if you are on the verge of success.

Dude. Wasn't criticizing. Just wanting a name. It's a hard fact question that has a hard fact answer.

You don't remember disappointed Jayhawk, Terrapin and Sun Devils- definitely Sun Devils- fans who were annoyed with their hires and wanted Leach? Because I certainly do.

I'd also bet Red Raider fans would like him back. And "clamoring".

You are the last person who needs to be calling anyone out 95. You pretty much grab your crayons and go home every time you and Chinook get into a discussion. For some reason, its popular to call Chinoook a Husky..and then all of the followers chime in. Pretty messed up.

I'd also bet Red Raider fans would like him back. And "clamoring".Are you aware of something other than fan speculation? Do you know of any news reports that Leach was actually being considered by a school other than WSU? My understanding was that Moos swept in and signed him, fearing other major conference schools would be interested in him. The question remains were those fears legit? Don't get me wrong, someone would have taken a chance on Leach eventually, but a major conference school? The guy was considered radioactive because he broke the cardinal rule, he sued and was very public about it, that is a huge no-no.

Coach Leach is not leaving. He is a competitor. He is not leaving the Pac 12 for the American Athletic Conference. That conference is so unstable and his been bleeding teams for years.

If you want to compete at the highest level, who do you want to play: USC or Temple? Oregon or SMU? Stanford or Memphis?

He has worked hard to get this program in position to turn around. He is not going to leave when "He" thinks it is set to turn around. When Leach fired Lyle Sentencich in 2007, TT was 10th in scoring defense in the Big 12. With Ruffin McNeil as DC, they improved to 4th in scoring defense the rest of the season.

Leach isn't going anywhere

Yes, I've got a new phone, so my cut-and-paste is learning, but read up on the Maryland hire. It was Edsall or Leach, and it sounds like they chose the guy who fawned over being a Terrapin fan.

As for Leach being "radioactive"- maybe at the Alabama-Ohio State tier... But to most he was a best selling author who got cheated out of his contract by bad law and a scheme between a disgruntled player and administrators who felt like they overpaid. There was plenty of interest in him.

It doesn't look like it for sure....good news is: how great is it that the cougs have a coach that others might actually WANT??

Anyone know when the rollover provision has to be exercised?

I'm assuming pretty soon. I believe Moos stated in his radio show that he expects to roll over CML's contract at the end of this year. I believe he said that last week.

- relative humidity in the summer months is higher in Key West on average than in Houston in the afternoons, officially.

- Leach's contract language that caused him problems can be easily fixed in any new contract he might sign anywhere in Texas.

- Houston is a 40,000 student University in a major city with a medical school and many rich alumni. They could quite easily outspend Baylor, WSU and/or TCU if they wanted to.

- right now, Leach could easily jump and throw 'Pullman' under the bus for not doing better while here.

All that said, I don't think he's going anywhere and that he feels a personal need to get this thing figured out. Yes, I believed Dennis Erikson when he swore his allegiance to WSU at a press conference in Spokane minutes before boarding a plane to Miami to become it's new coach, from a press conference at the Miami airport. I also believed Mike Price when he told me there was nothing to worry about regarding the rumors of him taking the Alabama job.

To all you young guys: If Leach should happen to leave, we will hire a new coach just like we did 4 times in 4 years back in the day. The sun will still rise the next morning.
Not to mention that Houston is in the same breath as a football school as Miami and Alabama. I mean, how could any sane coach turn down Houston?

it may not be a "dump," but its weather makes it unlivable for much of the year

Lol you guys actually thought we wanted your coach.
Very few people on this board thought that, if you go through the thread you just posted on. The rumor originated on the Houston end and this was a discussion in response to that.
