Massey has us rated #32 in the country heading into the season. Here is the link to his schedule prediction for WSU: LINK
#7 UW 12-0 (9-0)
#10 USC 12-0 (9-0)
#13 Stanford 10-2 (7-2)
#36 Utah 8-4 (6-3) favorable schedule gets them an extra conference win
#31 Colorado 8-4 (5-4)
#32 WSU 8-4 (5-4)
#64 UCLA 5-7 (4-5)
#60 Oregon 6-6 (3-6)
#56 Cal 3-9 (2-7)
#79 ASU 3-9 (2-7)
#87 Arizona 3-9 (1-8)
#75 OSU 2-10 (1-8)
I listed the teams based on conference record so UCLA is listed above Oregon even though they wouldn't qualify for a bowl (technically).
If everything goes to form, he has WSU starting the season 8-1 with a close loss to USC at home and some nail-biter wins on the road against Oregon and Cal. We then stumble to an 8-4 finish with a close loss to Stanford at home, a 4 point loss to Utah on the road and a road thumping in Seattle at the hands of the mutts. He has us 11 points shy of an 11-1 record instead of 8-4. That sounds plausible outside of the fact that we'll probably beat Stanford and lose to MSU instead.
He's projecting USC and UW to meet in the Pac-12 title game with undefeated records on both sides but he's got Stanford so close to UW that it's a coin flip on who would represent the North. He's got the ducks at 6-6 but has three close losses that would put them at 9-3 if they can up their game. Todd Graham might as well start packing according to Massey since he thinks that they are going to finish 3-9. He might be able to share a truck with Rich Rod because he sees Arizona at 3-9 as well. Maybe they could just rent a fleet of trucks so Mora can join them when UCLA finishes 5-7. He's got UCLA pegged with a 1-4 start so Mora could be done before the leaves turn color if he's right.
Colorado at 8-4 is optimistic in my book but not unreasonable. Utah at 8-4 seems about right but he thinks they have a shot at 10 wins if things go their way. He's got OSU stuck at 2-10 but with four projected close losses, a bowl appearance wouldn't be that shocking.
These preseason lists are always going to be wrong in some fashion, but the South looks like a disaster if Massey is anywhere close to correct and it may be easier for WSU to maintain our 8-4 streak heading into the future if they struggle to find the right guys to replace Mora, Richrod and Graham. We'll see how close this year plays out.
