Not sure if you guys heard about this, but a couple of unscouted kids created twitter accounts and tweeted that they'd been offered by a P5 school, after which they immediately had three star rankings.

The uproar, of course, is about the optics(or truth) that many kids are given token ranking without actually being scouted, those rankings being based on the school that offered them or to where they committed. Of course this was categorically denied by the service, but its kinda out there now.

Anyway, discuss while you can. Not sure how long this thread will be up...

The amount of hours and personell involved to legitimately evaluate kids is enormous. The high end kids are easy. They run fast, run over, run by everyone else. They have enormous stats. Truly not hard to find.

The work is pouring thru kids that are 2 or 3 stars. Watching their film over and over. It’s prob safe to say that if you arent All League as a soph or junior are you really a BCS talent? Youre still talking about hundreds of kids in one region alone.

Im not surprised that they would just hand a kid with an Alabama offer 3 stars. What’s surprising is that they didnt check to see it was legit or even have a kid of that caliber on their radar.

The implication is that a Bama kid would warrant a 4 or 5 star automatically, just because... Bama.

This guy claimed he had committed to Cal, even though Cal had never offered him. He at least went on to play college football. So, it's not unprecedented.

There are potential shortcuts to be followed in every profession, and HS recruit evaluation is no different. I find it amusing when the shortcuts are so visible, but it just confirms what we all believed anyway.

While I mostly agree with what your saying.

There are some kids that play against extremely weak competition and have OVER INFLATED STATS, AWARDS, ETC, who like you say, become WAY OVERATED 4, 5 STARS, who then go to places like UCLA, get even more soft, dont do good, etc.

There are also some kids who play against the BEST COMPETITION in the ENTIRE NATION, who because of that, dont have high stats, dont have lots of awards, accolades, who because of that, only get rated 2,3 stars, who get found, discovered, committed to WSU, by Leach, etc, who then get developed into 4,5 star talent, who then go to NFL, with others scratching their heads.

That is why altho your right in general, if dont try to scout everywhere, as many kids as possible, some kids will fall thru cracks, and some get overrated.
