The Seattle Times says that Pete Carroll is out as the Seahawks head coach. A bit surprising since he said on Monday that he intended to be back next year.

Perhaps its not by choice?

Schneider needs to go as well. A blind chimp could pick JSN in the first round; he's either gotten fat and lazy or lost his touch. Either way, we haven't had a defense or OL since they decided to give Russ/Bobby/ Adams the bag, all bad choices.

And, since they did that they haven't even slowed the bleeding, so now there are too many holes to fill. They need DL and OL...but will also need a QB soon, they need help and depth at LB and in the secondary. Probably OK for now at WR, but that's about it. They could pick anything else and not be wrong.
But, at #16, the best of the best at most positions are going to be off the board. They can either draft best available - which makes sense, but most teams won't do with a #1 - or they can look at trying to trade back and pick up a 2nd rounder (which they don't have this year).

They also have a salary cap problem. WIth Carroll out, it gives them an easy chance to change directions a bit and free up some space. There are quite a few guys they could dump - one way or another - who probably have less future value than they're getting paid for. Geno and Adams are two of those.

At age 48, with a bad shoulder and a knee that crackles, I might be able to cover as well as Adams.

This isn't surprising. John's likely flexing his muscle to take on more power. Pete gets some BS VP title and becomes John's personnel side kick.

They'll get Dan Quinn. Become better on defense. Not sure what they do on offense, but it will be a new staff.

I can only hope they get Dan Quinn. I thought he did well in ATL considering what he had to work with. But he does own the most embarrassing thrown game in NFL history.

You think? That didn't end well in Atlanta. Also didn't work well last time SEattle took an ATL retread.

Quinn is a safe hire. They can keep winning 9-10 games and compete for playoffs. There’s riskier candidates with higher upside I think but Quinn makes sense for them.

The other point, if they think we need to rebuild and bring on the next franchise QB. They aren't given Pete a 4 to 5 year window. That is the next staff.

Yep...I think they will hire him. John wants a safe hire and to keep control. They will bring in a guy they know.

Too soon for the franchise QB. Need to shore up the interior OL and move the defense forward. Otherwise they’ll lose their new QB by the time the rest of the team is built back. Need a serviceable placeholder for 2 seasons - and not one they’re paying $25M.

I'll have to wait to see who they hire. But it's likely that the team will not be as good without Carroll and they miss the playoff's for a while. There was a lot of ugly football from the time Knox was out and Holmgren was hired. They fired Holmgren and hired the inept Mora. If Allen didn't want Carroll so much, we could have been stuck at the bottom with Mora for years.

Look also how long it took the uw to go from Don James until they finally got a good coach in Chris Peterson. Look how long it took Alabama to replace Bear Bryant.

Winning is especially hard to do in the NFL and most coaches are just not that good at leading an NFL franchise.
