Reach out to Urban Meyer/Rick Neuheisel

Since most of these ideas are ridiculous here is another:

Contact the Saudis. we need LIV money. Gets them into the US College football market, be the best g-5 school money can buy, and you make the playoffs every year. While they are at it. get them to throw a couple 100 million into research dollars, so now we are a football school and academic powerhouse.
As long as Biggs has to wear a burka....

For the unconventional path, you're talking about plucking a crusty old dude from FCS, DII or something like that?
Potentially. I could see either the "last job" type of hire, where it's a well-known college or football coach mainly just doing it because he wants to coach again and maybe wants to help his son get an onramp into coaching (and which is dangerous; if you aren't careful, you'll get some kind of terrible retread held out as legit for this purpose like Neuheisel), or more of the crusty old dude, which is primarily what I was getting at. Someone in the lower ranks who is just a good football coach. For a really long time, I used to wonder why we'd have these guys at places like North Dakota State who would just kick ass year after year but not typically step up to FBS. We've finally started seeing more of those guys hired (e.g., Leipold, De Boer, Klieman), and at this point, it's probably harder to find one at FCS. What I like about this kind of move is the increased stability and lowered dependence on high-level talent. More about coaching and scheme with a pretty simple shopping list for recruits that can be satisfied without much NIL money.

Gary Patterson want to coach still?! Our Deputy AD is from TCU. Kellen Moore, Kirby Moore, Harsin, some good choices out there. I'd be happy w Vigen...he can say I coached Josh Allen. I hope someone has connections...

Neuheisel? Get back on your meds, Gramps.
Because he has won ? Or what's the issue? He knows how to be a CEO. Doba did not. Dickert was learning on the job how to be a CEO.

RN can recruit. May have some issues with talent evaluation, but with all the extra people around in the "scouting department", it would be easier than last time he had a gig. And UCLA was taking off just as he was let go.

Ed

Dickert just doubled his salary, has a real conference, a budget for assistants, a President, a real athletic director and a substantially easier road logistically for recruiting.

Wake Forrest is a much better job today than WSU.

I don't disagree that Wake Forest is a good job, but recruiting is not going to be substantially easier. I'd argue that it's going to be exponentially harder, in fact. Wake Forest is one of the smallest D1 schools in the P4 and they have one of the lowest academic acceptance rates. They consistently rank dead last in the ACC in "football viability."

With that said, they're generally patient with their coaches, and North Carolina is a great place to live. Wake Forest alumni worry about the same types of things we found out the hard way. Power conferences want big schools with big stadiums.

It’s the Stanford of the East cosst. Nice digs, good salary, long leash, low expectations. Dickert didn’t think he could make it big or he’d never have taken that shitty job. It was an off ramp that will set him up financially. F’’n pussy.

FWIW, Neuheisel went 7-6 his last season at UW, then 21-29 in four years at UCLA.

And he'll be 64 in February

This would not be the hire and I don’t think he’d be interested anyways. Weasel is a front runner who needs a built in advantage. No thanks.

Haven’t seen him mentioned yet, curious about Jeff Banks. He’s a west coast guy and a great recruiter.

I think admin needs to get ahead of our reality and accept it. Get on the horn to Netflix and pitch a reality show, First Chance U. It would be a reality show about guys getting their first chance at big time college football. Hire a juco coach with some personality and experience of cobbling rosters together. Change the mindset at the program and start celebrating guys that move on to bigger and better things and guys that choose to stay. You don't have to recruit academic wash outs or character flaws, just kids looking for some game film to cash in bigger later. I'm serious on this idea. It provides exposure to the program, sets you apart from others in your approach, and might get you some decent players. Maybe even make a deal with Netflix so they donate to the collective.

WSU students/alumni need a connection to the program once they leave so it remains in their consciousness. A reality program makes the program more human. Some of our issues with general alumni is that the football program is out of sight out of mind. Sure they will watch a game and wear a sweatshirt but don't do much more. They aren't posting on wazzuwatch. We here are a different group.

Your first sentence in the second paragraph is an important one. Since 2018 I've struggled to connect with the university, and there's been nothing of substance to pull me back. There was a time where I couldn't fathom not going to a game or setting foot in Pullman. Now? I'm not sure if I'll ever return.

Priorities can shift, but there still needs to be an engagement driver. Admin should be coming up with creative ways to engage alumni/fans.

We've basically been getting kicks to groin at least once a year since Leach left. I have a kid in Pullman, so I will keep buying tickets until she's done. But it is getting harder.
