Ha, ha... no, just kidding.

Florida 0, FAU 0 at half.

And nonetheless... five good halves from the Final 4.

To be fair, Florida earned its ranking with Will Grier at QB. Now that he's suspended for a year, they have Treon Harris, whom they rode to horrible losing seasons under Muschamp the past few years. Harris is almost worse than having nobody at QB. He went 8 for 17 today and got picked off.

Add proven-failure-of-a-backup-QB to late season tuneup game and you're going to find poor results.

To be even fairer (to you), what I just said explains why they struggled much more than they usually do - but it doesn't really explain why they're going to OT at home with a mid-major which has posted a 2-5 record in the C-USA.

They won 8 of the last 12. Cut 'em some slack. Teams/conferences are supposed to sustain a reputation FOREVER? Look at WSU. We're a turd if you believe the resume in the last 10 years. Fortunately every year is new.

Does the backup QB play defense, too?

What exactly is the point here? Florida had a letdown/trap game with their backup QB. They're still 10-1. Do all 14 teams have to play like national championship contenders every week of every season for the conference to be even minimally respectable? Because if that's the standard, every conference fails.

By 2012, the SEC had won 7 straight titles across 4 different teams. In 2015, you still have 5-7 teams that can go toe-to-toe with any team in any conference, and you still have 2 championship hopefuls. That's more than can be said for the P12, which I think is a better conference this year top to bottom, if only just.

It's unlikely the SEC will rattle off 7 straight titles again, and you will see a corresponding decline in reputation or "hype." But it's OK to let them get there naturally - everyone knows how sad it looks to rag on the prom queen while she's still on stage, right? Plenty of other conferences with baggage - you think the B10 and ACC are battle-tested?
