So no Windfall

All I know is, the Pac 12 would still be together if Trump was president.

Maybe he orders the schools back together if he defeats Pres. Biden in 2024?

Schultz had no leverage, what should he have done? Nobody wants us.

from SI.com:

"The report indicated that if Stanford and Cal aren't invited to the ACC invites by the middle of next week, that their discussions with the Big 12 will get that much more serious. If they do end up heading towards the Big 12 option, Michael Silver of the SF Chronicle also reported that Oregon State and Washington State would also be joining them as well."

See: “So there’s a chance thread”. Shot down earlier today if any rumors can be believed.

That lets him off the hook too easily. As Cougsocal wrote, he was too passive. No, WSU has no leverage, but he could have done myriad things in the years prior, as well as quite a few at the point you are describing and thereafter. We have talked about a lot of them and there were many others we haven't talked about but that a creative, dynamic, and effective president would have explored. I am as certain as one could be from the outside, based on everything we have heard from him and others, that Shulz didn't even attempt any meaningful subset of those possible approaches, and instead was passive and had faith it would all work out. Anyone with a functioning cerebrum, including many of us randos on a message board, could see how dire the consequences were, and it wasn't the time to just be passive when running WSU. Shulz was and he failed.
Yeah no shit. He could have come out and said we were going to fight for that dissolution $. Win or lose. Instead he just throws in the towel. What a gutless pussy.

So without stanford and cal we are out, nobody wants us. They may take us eventually but we are not "wanted"

I'm 56 years old now, and candidly, my passion for college football has been waning for several years now. I've been a season ticket holder for decades. Hell, I had reserve section season tickets back in 1992 when I was a student. I've been a Beasley RV Lot #1 pass holder for approaching 20 years. My WSU football ride has been epic. From the 1982 Apple Cup, the Price era, the magnificent 1997 season, 2001-2003, the Wulff sadness, and the Leach resurrection. It's been both a kick in the ass and a punch to the gut.

This latest realignment stuff isn't at all surprising to me. I've been expecting this for years. Honestly though, it's not the media dollars and conference affiliation that has soured things for me. We've always been on the outside looking in a the blue blood programs. I can deal with that. One of the things that drew me to WSU was the middle-of-nowhere small-town underdog mentality of our campus. What's ruining my interest in the game is the unregulated portal/NIL situation and the fact that the NCAA isn't facilitating a path for the G5 programs and their conferences to compete and qualify for the college football playoff similar to how March Madness is run.

With just a few tweaks to the portal, the playing field would be level enough for my liking. Something along the lines of signed LOI's from incoming true freshmen carried a 2-year commitment. Players, with the exception of family/hardship cases, cannot transfer to another program until the end of their 2nd year. Then, if blue-bloods want to come hard after them with NIL dollars, that's fine. At least it doesn't invalidate all of the recruiting efforts that coaches in the FCS and G5 make to find the 2-3 star diamonds in the rough. Those coaches would know that they're at least going to get a couple of seasons out of those kids.

I'd also like to see a policy where players can only use the portal in two instances. 1) after your 2nd season with your program, and 2) as a graduate transfer where you're given an extra year of eligibility if you obtain your degree in (5) seasons. Yes, I'm suggesting that if a kid comes in, redshirts, plays 4 years and has their degree, they can earn an extra 5th year of football anywhere they'd like to play. Why do I favor that? Because it encourages and rewards kids to graduate, and also because those types of kids aren't necessarily going to be NFL guys, so they'd be more desirable targets for the G5, FCS, and lower level super conference programs. It actually would give a program like Boise State or Fresno a competitive loophole. OK Alabama, we can't come close to recruiting at your level, but we can field teams with a half dozen 2-3 star 23 year olds who can stand up physically to your 18-19 year old stars.

The Mountain West Conference plays good football. San Jose State looked like they belonged on the field with USC yesterday. Boise State, SDSU, and Fresno State can hang with bottom 2/3 of most super conference programs. For me, that's good football. That's where WSU has dwelled forever. If the NCAA has any sense at all, they'll institute a few policy changes to preserve the G5 and give them *some* competitive chances. If they don't, I'll go quietly into that Palouse night.
It's been difficult for me too. Leach leaving, the portal, NIL, the conference falling apart, have all taken a toll. My son is a WSU student right now. My daughter is a senior in HS. I'll keep my tickets while I have a kid in Pullman. Beyond that, I'm not sure.

Is she cute? Is she 18? If not, let me know when she turns.

Sincerely, pervert Coug. :)

Good one :) never had one of those, despite my occasional arrests. And I will not stalk your young daughter should she go to WSU. I like the older gals anyway.
Hey Loyal .. during the Christmas season you aren’t Santa with little girls on your lap getting their pictures taken are you ?
