I found this watching a history of the single wing. The context is the deaths caused by allowing only 5 men on the line (hence 6 in the backfield vs 4 today). You can watch the video here:



I don’t know the year, but it is WSU vs Whitman on Thanksgiving. I tried to search but haven’t found anything.

Confirmed, it was 1909. Article was from the Los Angeles Herald, December 2, 1909.

Slight disconnect - according to the WSU media guide, the game was played on November 28, which was not thanksgiving- it was the Sunday after. I suspect the media guide has the wrong date
