The qame started somewhat sloppy, particularly on defense. In the 19th minute the Oregon goalkeeper came out of the goal mouth and then mishandled the ball. Freshman Brianna Alger grabbed it, sidestepped a defender and scored. In the 22nd minute another freshman, Elyse Bennett, came in as a substitute and the Cougar's tempo picked up. In the 31st minute Bennett fed the ball to Morgan Weaver who put it in the net. Cougs 2, Ducks 0 at halftime. The Ducks scored off a free kick which was not defended particularly well by the Cougs. WSU 2, UO 1 final.

The pressure was all Cougs during the first half after the first ten minutes of the game. Quite the opposite in the second half. The Ducks concentrated more on containing Bennett and were quick on the counterattack. The pressure was mostly Oregon's with our ladies unable to put together any sustained offense.

Many substitutions by both squads with little diminution of quality that I could detect.

One of the main center backs for the Cougs, Kelsee Crenshaw, was absent with an undisclosed injury. Grace Hancock, the other starting center back, did an excellent job and never left the field, playing the full ninety minutes. Hats off to her.

We are now 2-2 in conference play with the Beavs next this Sunday (I believe). The Pac12 has four teams ranked in the top twenty. All Cal teams. UCLA #1, Stanford #2, USC #6 and Cal #20. Arizona, wa, WSU and Utah are all in the "also receiving votes" category. A daunting gauntlet for anyone with aspirations in the league.

Well done, ladies.

Appreciate the recap! Just got home a few minutes ago and saw the score but had no idea of the run of the game.

Gotta love 13 hour workdays.......
