I agree that Mateer waited too long to get rid of it. That hurt.

Scheme wasn’t great.

Feels a lot like last year. Start off hot. Win a couple of big games and then fizzle. Granted Boise is good, but critical mistakes like not getting the 4th and 1 on our 30, are just giving the game away.

Disappointing and Jake’s decisions aren’t setting the tone of smart coaching at critical times.

Boise and UNLV

Boise State and UNLV look to have 2 of the best programs out West this year. Oregon is #1, but after that, who else? Arizona, Utah, and BYU? Boise can hang with any of them.

I’ve always felt that the top of the MWC was as good as most teams in the P12. This is why I like that we skimmed their top-5 programs. We didn’t need the bottom half.

Zero Offensive Line. (Recruiting).
Their players are better than ours. (Recruiting).
Without Jeanty, the game would have been somewhat competitive.
Nobody can stop Ash, maybe contain....but not for all four quarters.

Brilliant analysis from the cult leader of the Church of the Right Way!

No kidding? If they didn’t have their best player it would have been competitive? Huh? Maybe you could call all the opposing HCs and ask if they’ll sit their best player?

They picked up most of the blitzes. Parker did an outstanding job in blitz PU. The OLine did not play that bad…they blew a few. If Mateer could identify the blitz and get the ball out to a receiver in space they would have backed off and they probably only have a couple sacks. 90% of that was on Mateer.
It was the outside rush of a backer or safety. It is as much on Mateer and playing in his 5th game. He needs to check out of plays or protection... and he just isnt there yet. He is an athlete and a thrower right now . Will he be more ? Don't know . He does have to connect on ling balls and needs that accuracy

I don't have any of the fancy instant replay stuff, so I only go by what I thought I saw in live action, and by what the network chose to replay. But it looked to me as though the blocking was OK in terms of getting after the guy that the lineman picked to block. What killed us appeared to me to be the blown assignments against the blitz. And using the mobile QB as our only response to 1, 2 and occasionally 3 blitzers is a play calling failure. Why not use a flare pass to the RB? Or a short delay pass to a TE? Or maybe have practiced in advance a quick check into a screen? That happened a couple of times, but I don't need many fingers to count them. We all knew that pressure up the middle and blitzes were what Boise was going to do. Arbuckle needs to get out of his one trick pony, mobile QB mindset and actually do some effective scheming.

Do not question the coaching! The Church of the Right Way won’t tolerate it!

Agree with almost everything, but Mateer wasn't off- that's who Mateer is. At this point.

Hopefully he can fix some stuff like reading the D presnap better and downfield accuracy over the next two weeks.
He’s a one read QB unless we’re playing a shit defense and he knows he’s going to have time. He’s fun to watch but a long way to go to be an elite QB.

My take Jeanty. He should win the Heisman but won't because of being in a non power 4 conference. Travis Hunter will because he plays both ways. Jeanty should though, he is dominant. He will go to the NFL. I question how high he will go. His running style puts a lot of wear and tear on him. RBs drop will all of a sudden drop off a cliff. His style doesn't seem sustainable for a second contract. I hope I'm wrong. He seems like a good kid.
First back off the board top 15 pick IMO. He’s a day 1 3 down pro bowl caliber back. Closest thing I’ve seen since Adrian Peterson is Javonte Williams. Jeanty has better vision and elusiveness than Williams though and he was on his way to becoming one of the best backs in the league before his injury. Jeanty is special.

He ran for 197 yards against Oregon. They are a Top 10 team. This notion that he isn't going to do well against top tier competition is ignoring what we saw yesterday. I do wonder if he can hold up in the long term. He was already looking a little gimpy against us last night.
Oregon isn't as billed. They have yet to play anyone and when they do there will be a reckoning.

It was a team loss without a doubt. The offense, defense and coaching all sucked.

Mateer was off and our offensive line was abhorrent.

All that wouldn’t have mattered as much if we aren’t getting gashed by a future NFL running back who will be a Heisman finalist this year.

Dickert and Arbuckle absolutely have some soul searching to do because their decisions made things worse, but it was only a matter of time before Jeanty was going to do some damage.

The month of October will reveal whether or not things are fixable or if there is a deeper issue with the coaching staff. As I mentioned in another thread, Nick Saban recently said that sloppy wins are the kiss of death to a team that is trying to figure itself out. Everyone says the right things but deep down, they think everything is going to be okay and they don't work on their issues as much as they should.

And for all the hand wringing, #8 Oregon gave up 34 points to BSU and their defense is only giving up 13.5 ppg in their other games. Jeanty rushed for 192 yards against the Ducks....so y'all can f#ck off with the talk that he isn't dominant. The ducks were lucky to beat BSU. As much as it pains me to say it, the Broncos have a pretty damned good team that will go toe to toe with the best teams in the country. Bad coaching decisions, poor OL play and bad tackling made the game ugly.....but we lost this game because a Heisman candidate QB had his way with us. There is a lot of cleanup to do, but we aren't facing another guy like Jeanty this year.

Jeanty is a gimmick due to his stature: low center of gravity combined with being as wide as he is tall. I saw guys wrapping up but unable to corral him because he's too damn wide.

What top 15 teams will do is a) have more hats to the ball and b) be able to grab him by the jersey jersey/arm/leg with their hands and at least slow him enough to allow help to come. Virtually all of our attempts we're 1v1 with Jeanty.

All credit to him: he is still strong and fast, but he won't get as much mileage against top talent.

That is NOT the main reason we lost this game. It was one factor but not the primary one. The D was OK enough for 3 quarters against him. The O let them down. D was on the field too much.
The main reason we lost was basically everything about the offense: Mateers decision making, Mateers accuracy issues, terrible O line, very terrible OC play calling etc.
Dickert is a good guy and great motivator but he still has much to learn.

You still aren't worthy of licking the ballsweat off Dickert's jockstrap. It's an ugly game and definitely a couple bad coaching decisions, but we lost this game because we faced a team with a guy who is going to be in New York. Maurice Clarette and Ahman Green are the only two running backs that I've seen that are as dominant as Jeanty. The guy is a freaking stud.
