Nice post and write up. Thanks!Just flying home from a great weekend in the PNW. The overall game experience was great. Pioneer Square was rocking pre-game, and seemed to exceed expectations. I was at the Elysian Brewery across from Lumen Field pre-game and they essentially ran out of beer, with only two taps still running out of probably +40! Lumen is much more comfortable than either campus stadium, and it seemed about 40/60 Cougs/Huskies. The fans were loud during the game but overall pretty chill- almost like we were guests at someone else’s house. There were definitely fewer students there for each side- UW hasn’t returned yet from summer break. The weather was very fall-like and it really felt like the Apple Cup to me. It was also so nice to be mentioned on ESPN, and all the other networks, for playing a big game and winning a big game, and not just as a victim of conference re-alignment or for waiving a flag a mind-numbing number of times.
Going forward the AC is going to be A LOT more important for us, because non-conference scheduling is going to get a lot harder. Every coach said it was nearly impossible to get Power 5 conference teams to travel to Pullman when we were one, and now its going to be next to impossible, once the currently scheduled games are played. Beating Wisconsin, Texas Tech and Washington out-of-conference is going to cement the message not to play WSU at home. If anyone glanced at the Texas Tech message boards after last weekend, the fan hatred was split 3-ways between their coach, their QB and their AD for scheduling such a “horsesh*t game”. Regardless who else joins the Pac12, this is the most important event in WSU sports, by about 100-fold. Continuing this series is a huge gift to WSU, and winning this game was honestly as much fun as any Apple Cup I’ve been to, and I’ve been to a lot.
Agree - but going 2000(?) miles away to snag a couple of teams to make 8 doesn't make sense. Grab UNLV and either Wyoming or Air Force. THEN chat with the Texas schools, Memphis, etc. When we have met the 8 team criteria and we can collaborate from a position of not desperate. If that means letting one 2nd string school in to make 8, so be it.I don’t think Stanford will, but Cal could. Neither will if we don’t ask/have room.
I don’t see this being a league of 14. I think it’s going to be a pretty select 8-10. There’s no reason to take teams that don’t bring anything to the table.
Rolovich sucked. Glad he gave us a reason. You mean how he pissed off the Coaches for our successful Volleyball and Basketball and fired a winning football coach for not getting a fake covid shot while the entire time having a purple hard on for fusky nut sweat?
Oh yeah... totally decent job
I don’t think Stanford will, but Cal could. Neither will if we don’t ask/have room. They aren't coming back. And sure as F not coming back in time for the deadline. And there is no shortage of seats - 8, 10, 12, whatever. That is not it at all.
I was thinking the same thing, realizing that we’d be kicking with our backup. I was imagining UW starting from the 50 after the free kick.Funny... I was saying the same thing because a punt from the 3 and only up 5 is worse than a kickoff/punt from the 20 and being up 3.
Thank the Cougar gods that the fuskies were that stupid jump offsides when it really only a "mini-stop" that was needed
Shit CSU's President is a babe. Gawd what is she, 38?Colorado has a population of about 6 million, Nevada has about 3 million. Oregon State and Washington State have comparable academics as Colorado State, which is probably much better than UNLV. Finally, Colorado State has been making investments for years in athletics in an effort to move up from the MWC. For example, they have built a new football stadium about 7 years ago.
Jon Wilner and John Canzano podcast, and they talk about UNLV being left out:
Jon and John talk
Oregon State's athletic director talks about the expansion:
Scott Barnes talks
Colorado State's president and athletic director talk about joining the PAC 12
Colorado State is excited to be joining the PAC 12
Funny... I was saying the same thing because a punt from the 3 and only up 5 is worse than a kickoff/punt from the 20 and being up 3.I celebrated by going to the game and then stood and watched as Cougs swarmed the field. The crowd was 57,000 plus and it seemed reasonably close to 50/50. Good game. Cougs made the plays when they had to. We also played far cleaner than the Dogs. Their DB's held all game long but they did get called for it more than the game at the end of last year. Mateer made some good throws and some bad throws but he is a gamer. He is a real threat with his feet. The last minute was odd. I was explaining to my son that since we couldn't run out the clock we should probably take a safety and then kick it to them with around 15 seconds left. But the Huskies solved that by jumping offside twice so the clock got to run some more. Great goal line stand by the D.
They aren't coming back. And sure as F not coming back in time for the deadline. And there is no shortage of seats - 8, 10, 12, whatever. That is not it at all.Only explanation is that WSU/OSU wanted to keep two seats for Cal & Stanford….although I probably would have taken UNLV over Boise, all things considered.
Hey, it may not be thick, but it sure is short.“How tall are you, private?”
How often do you see a sportswriter use the word (?) “snobbery”….and use it rightly and repeatedly?Loading…

Excellent writing here.
“How tall are you, private?”You celebrated the win by getting anal? Which is fine, just a little odd to bring up on the Board. Did you get a reach around while getting this anal?
Only explanation is that WSU/OSU wanted to keep two seats for Cal & Stanford….although I probably would have taken UNLV over Boise, all things considered. Why were they not invited (yet)? Or were they, and they said no? The UNLV/UNR "package deal" hypothesis is out there but doesn't seem to be the reason - but maybe it was. Regents are saying they didn't deep-six it, they don't know anything apparently.
So WTF happened? UNLV is an absolute no-brainer and should have been the first or second invite. UNLV fans think we dogged them and don't want them. I don't believe that. This needs to be fixed. I dunno who else we will invite, but UNLV HAS TO BE the next one.
"It's kind of the same as going to a little people convention to claim you're tall though."I don't even know why I'm bothering, but:
- Abilene Christian is semi good? Uh...ok, I guess...if mediocre FCS teams are to be considered semi-good. They were 5-6 last year, and this year they're 2-1 with a 2 point win last week over mighty Northern Colorado. ACU's QB has thrown for 300 yards exactly twice in his career, but had over 500 against TT. He did not break 300 against either of their other opponents this year - West Georgia and the aforementioned Northern Colorado. N. Texas gave up 38 to South Alabama...so 66 to TT sounds about right. But sure...if we want to use those as the measuring sticks to say that Tech is "semi-good" I guess we could. It's kind of the same as going to a little people convention to claim you're tall though.
- "UW on a scale of 1 to 10, is probably a 5.9, 6.3, 6.5, 6.7, 6.9, 7.3" This statement is broad, abstract, and lacks reference...so is meaningless.
- We didn't "shut down" Coleman. He had 5.3 yards per carry, which is pretty huge. As for your claim that there were a "semi lot" of plays (whatever the hell that means) where he got less than 2.5, here's the fact: he had 6 carries that were 3 yards or less. Two of those were no gain, and two were losses - including the idiotic option on 4th down that was doomed before he ever touched it, but he gets the stat anyway. He also had 4 carries that went for more than 10. So really, he had a decent day, and we should be glad the UW coaches weren't smart enough to give it to him more.
- "UW's RB is supposedly semi comparable, semi similar to BSU's RB" Not sure what "semi comparable" means either. They are similar sized, Coleman is 15 lbs heaver, Jeanty is probably faster. Coleman is getting 12-13 carries per game, Jeanty is getting 22. And, Jeanty is averaging 10.2 yards per carry for the season. That is ridiculous. He's going to be the biggest threat we face this season - forget about COleman.
- "11,12 carries for about 45 yards(14 carries minus 2,3 carries of about 10 to 13 to 15 yards per carry for 2,3 carries equals about 11,12 carries for about 45 yards, for about a 3.5 yards per carry for the rest of the remaining carries)" If I understand this word salad correctly, it means that if an RB has long runs, we shouldn't count them in their stats. So the 63 yards Coleman had on 4 carries don't really mean anything, we should only consider the other 10 carries that only netted 12 yards. Those long runs don't really matter anyway...his 29 yard run in the 3rd led to a FG, but since they didn't win, I guess it was meaningless. I count at least 5 times he ran for first downs, which extended drives. But that's meaningless, it doesn't make a difference in the game.
This is a game that we can lose if we are ready to play. They are legit. They are that good and this is a game we can lose if we are not ready to play.
I’m not gonna get into the other nonsense but let’s put to rest any idea that Coleman is close to Jeanty. Jeanty is the best back in the country and is everything you want in a top level NFL RB. Coleman is good but he is probably a mid to late round draft pick.I don't even know why I'm bothering, but:

Some of the things you said are true, some not, some partially true, not.
1. Texas Tech is at least semi good. They have put up AMAZING numbers, against ACU(Who is at least semi good), and even a 66-21 score after the WSU, TT game, even if against a crap team, is AMAZING.
2. UW on a scale of 1 to 10, is probably a 5.9, 6.3, 6.5, 6.7, 6.9, 7.3
3. UW's RB was supposedly supposed to be unstoppable by WSU, and yet WSU SHUT HIM DOWN(Had 2,3 semi bigger plays, but overall had about 3.3 yards per carry, and about 33 to 43 to 53 yards. UW's RB is supposedly semi comparable, semi similar to BSU's RB.
BSU, Fresno St, is not going to be easy, but WSU probably should, will at least beat SJSU, probably at least either Split against BSU, Fresno St, or just barely beat both, or just barely lose to both, and if WSU goes 4-2, 5-1, 6-0, the rest should probably be pretty easy.
That does not mean that WSU can afford to take that for granted, not show up, etc.
But Dickert, Team doesn't hardly ever take teams for granted, not show up, not focus, etc.
Dickert, team is all about focus, trying best, going 1-0, etc, each week.
But that's Dickert, Team, etc, us fans, can, should expect to do well vs SJSU, BSU, Fresno St, rest of MWC, as WSU, Dickert, team is a good coach, likely good team, etc.
Like I said some of that came from 2,3 semi bigger runs.
11,12 carries for about 45 yards(14 carries minus 2,3 carries of about 10 to 13 to 15 yards per carry for 2,3 carries equals about 11,12 carries for about 45 yards, for about a 3.5 yards per carry for the rest of the remaining carries)
That is pretty good for a defense where RB that was supposedly supposed to put up 125 to 150 to 175 to 200 yards on WSU's defense.
UW's RB really didn't make a difference in the game, except for 2,3,4 first downs, and the play action pass.
So that 14 carries for 75 yards either didn't make a difference, or didn't make much of a difference.
And there was a semi lot of plays, where UW's RB only got -2, -1, 0, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 yard gains.
