Jesus, of course. Everybody sticks their hands out when given the chance. That's why we retain tax accountants and estate planners. Like Trump said.....Of course I take advantage of the tax code!
Speaking only for myself, the "Good Lord" comment stems from those of us in the 50+ demographic who did what we were brought up to do. Graduate from High School, get a job or go to college, save for retirement, avoid carrying debt, etc. Now, because of that financial discipline, our portfolios are worth several million dollars. It wasn't because I (we) was/were born into generational wealth or commanded top-tier salaries. We simply put our noses to the grindstone saved for the future. We made good decisions. We surrounded ourselves with quality people.
Suddenly though, even independent voters like me are tossed into the MAGA category because we've grown tired of hearing excuses from the so-called marginalized groups. I have COUNTLESS friends who fall into this category. I gave up partying and went to work, they didn't. I contributed 20-30% of my income into IRAs and savings, they didn't. I drove sensible vehicles and didn't carry dept, they drove show off cars for $600/mo and racked up credit card debt. Here we are today, and they're on the Bernie Blue Bandwagon, and I'm a rich Nazi who has more money than I know what to do with. And yes, I'm doing everything I can to shield that money so I can live in style and leave as much of it to my kids as I can.
There are many people who I feel genuine compassion and empathy for, but there is a legion of people out there who have nobody to blame but themselves for their situation. In my circle of high school, college, and work friends, I would guess that 85% of the ones who haven't made it need only look in the mirror to see the reason why. Should we feel compelled to help them? Maybe, but I don't begrudge anyone for looking the other way either. Referring to people like me (us) as MAGA for not agreeing with the far right's take on these issues doesn't win votes. The recent election proved that loudly and clearly.
