Federal layoff/firings

Since you are relatively fresh meat on this board I’ll save you some trouble. There’s a half dozen or so here who reason and fact don’t resonate with. Trump can do no wrong, anything negative about him, his family, and administration is “fake news”, and ultimately Trump is the chosen one who’s here to fix everything democrats destroyed and welcomes all MAGAs into his open arms where he’s devoting himself to bringing them much fortune and opportunity.

While everything you shared is reasonable and rooted in fact, these folks don’t look at the world through the same lens. With that in mind, save your keystrokes on trying to reason with them. That’s said I should probably follow my own advice…
And there’s that group that’s blue no matter who, Trump is literal Hitler and have seen Joe Biden run circles around his staff with their own eyes.

Ehh… Vance is literally courting the modern day Nazi party in Germany:: the AfD. If it talks like a Nazi, walks like a Nazi… you can bury your head in the sand/pretend otherwise but it is what it is.

And there’s that group that’s blue no matter who, Trump is literal Hitler and have seen Joe Biden run circles around his staff with their own eyes.
Then there is a small group of dipshits that can't engage in adult conversation and instead rely on senseless one-liners and insults - not to make a point - but just to be dicks. On any topic.

And there’s racists like you that make assumptions about people based on skin color and national origin. If someone on MSNBC says it, it must be true, right?

So you have no idea who the AfD are and what Vance is doing in Germany.

Not surprising coming from a functionally illiterate Redcoat.
You know so little, but preach so mightily. I think Zuck and Musk are getting their money’s worth.

Strange that you omitted the Romanian court nullifying an election in your rant. Perhaps you should read about that as well as AfD.

I found it hilarious to read that Musk is now touting the idea of “DOGE checks” to be handed out to Americans.

When the democrats handed out checks, there was a lot of squawking from the right.

Maybe we should focus on reducing our national debt like conservatives claim is their goal?

There probably is. Minuscule in comparison to the Trump cult though. I’ve never seen 200 boats on a lake waving flags which depict a democrats face superimposed on Rambo’s body.

“We enter the Reichstag to arm ourselves with democracy’s weapons, if democracy is foolish enough to give us free railway passes and salaries, that is its problem. It does not concern us. Any way of bringing about the revolution is fine by us.”

Google tells me you're quoting Goebbels. Do you have a point, or just enjoy Nazi propaganda?

You heard Biden say that he wished he could take Trump behind the gym though?

Bill Clinton's administration used a systematic approach that trimmed some 400k jobs from the government and also balanced the federal budget. It was even done in a bipartisan fashion. I don't know why a similar approach could not be used now with great success, especially considering Republicans control both legislative bodies and the executive office. What is happening now is just chaos.

To roses04's point about private sector layoffs, people in the private sector are paid more than employees who do the same job in government and are often given separation packages that help soften the blow of being laid off (buffering the risk of being laid off). Folks who work for the government often accept the lower wages because they want to serve their country and are willing to accept lower wages for the (supposed) stability these positions offer. Just jettisoning people with no rhyme or reason and no warning is just cruel. And these probationary employees (who are being fired in large swaths) would be the ones making the lowest wages; generally speaking downsizing is more successful when you move on from more tenured, higher paid staff.

I'm all for downsizing the government, but I disagree with a strategy that is unorganized, and likely unlawful at many junctures. Firing and rehiring is inefficient and wastes taxpayer dollars. Having to defend numerous lawsuits wastes taxpayer dollars. Breaking a bunch of laws hoping you will redefine a few legal precedents in the courts to me is unethical. Again, Republicans control all chambers and could pass new legislation if they want to change the course of business (such as Humphrey's Executor et al).
Because congress is entirely tribal and to ask for or expect any sort of bipartisan cooperation (from either side) would be foolish at best, negligent at worst.

You... you can see the difference though, right? RIGHT?

Honestly, do you consider anything before you dismiss it completely out of pocket, or do you just read a headline and react?

When everything outside of his self righteous point of view is LITERALLY Nazi-esq or they are LITERALLY Hitler, then one must conclude that yes, he is indeed a Nazi propagandist. Or maybe just a Nazi fvcktoy.

There are differences....but it's still funny that y'all bitch about government waste and deficits, but when it comes to actually eliminating waste to reduce the deficit....you've got no credibility. And a ****in' handout is a ****in' handout. But hey, as long as it's not black, brown or poor people being targeted for the money...it's cool, right?

Gotta go hand out some welfare to farmers and billionaires too.

Federal “workers” who “worked from home” drawing federal salary, pension accrual and benefits, found to have been working side businesses or other jobs simultaneously, should absolutely be prosecuted.

No exceptions.

DOGE checks are dumb and should not be issued. Any money found by fraud should be used to reduce debt and should not be repurposed for any reason.

Congress should submit and pass a comprehensive budget for the first time since fy 1997.

Won’t happen this way, probably but it should.

FWIW, I agree with you 100% that the folks that you mentioned should be punished. All of us agree that the over-arching idea of looking for more efficiency and transparency in government is good. We agree that there are a lot of programs that are funded that don't need to be.

Trump, as usual, has an innate understanding of what Americans want. Trump, as usual, takes that way too far and to the point where he is causing more harm than good....because he's a genius when it comes to psychology of the masses but a moron when it comes to execution of policy.

Agreed. And “no exceptions” should mean that anyone who cashed in on putting up government delegations into clubs, hotels, and golf courses that they owned while they held office - or who played hundreds of rounds of golf on the clock - should also be prosecuted.

No exceptions would include Obama. Not sure Biden was much of a golfer, but he took a lot of vacation days. W. Bush was off more than 125 days per year. The methodology is not totally clear, and there is a huge variance for Biden.

Probably pretty impossible to quantify. I’m assuming Trump and Gaetz playing golf and grabbing the cart girls ass would be considered “working”.

You say "Good Lord" but I can't count the number of times that people from the MAGA world bitch about welfare handouts but they stick their own fuggin' hands out when given the chance and they don't complain when the handouts go to the "right" people. My comment wouldn't be so aggravating if it wasn't true.
Hey the Republican's are just better of hanging a noose around the Dems necks. Dems go to a gun fight with a butter knife. Subsidy, TARP, PPP somehow don't get accounted for ...They seem to be in a totally different accounting system than the "handouts".

John Stewart talked about drugs in the black community vs the white community. Even the way it was portrayed in the media was fascinating. It is interesting how people see it...like "Good Lord"

Jesus, of course. Everybody sticks their hands out when given the chance. That's why we retain tax accountants and estate planners. Like Trump said.....Of course I take advantage of the tax code!

Speaking only for myself, the "Good Lord" comment stems from those of us in the 50+ demographic who did what we were brought up to do. Graduate from High School, get a job or go to college, save for retirement, avoid carrying debt, etc. Now, because of that financial discipline, our portfolios are worth several million dollars. It wasn't because I (we) was/were born into generational wealth or commanded top-tier salaries. We simply put our noses to the grindstone saved for the future. We made good decisions. We surrounded ourselves with quality people.

Suddenly though, even independent voters like me are tossed into the MAGA category because we've grown tired of hearing excuses from the so-called marginalized groups. I have COUNTLESS friends who fall into this category. I gave up partying and went to work, they didn't. I contributed 20-30% of my income into IRAs and savings, they didn't. I drove sensible vehicles and didn't carry dept, they drove show off cars for $600/mo and racked up credit card debt. Here we are today, and they're on the Bernie Blue Bandwagon, and I'm a rich Nazi who has more money than I know what to do with. And yes, I'm doing everything I can to shield that money so I can live in style and leave as much of it to my kids as I can.

There are many people who I feel genuine compassion and empathy for, but there is a legion of people out there who have nobody to blame but themselves for their situation. In my circle of high school, college, and work friends, I would guess that 85% of the ones who haven't made it need only look in the mirror to see the reason why. Should we feel compelled to help them? Maybe, but I don't begrudge anyone for looking the other way either. Referring to people like me (us) as MAGA for not agreeing with the far right's take on these issues doesn't win votes. The recent election proved that loudly and clearly.

This may be the best thing you've ever posted. Couldn't possibly agree more.

The far left and the far right have one major thing in common: they're both f*cking idiots. It's pretty damn rare that an extreme position - left or right - is the best one. The best path for the most people - and for the country as a whole - is almost always somewhere in the middle. Problem is that both sides have tried so far to get away from each other that they can't even see the middle anymore. The automatic reaction to anyone who even slightly disagrees with the extremes is that they're the enemy - and the far right is far more vocal about that. To a large degree, I blame the media for the polarization, because they only report on the extremes...so to keep or gain viewers, they have to keep pushing the extremes.

Honestly, I think if the internet - especially social media - collapsed and was inaccessible for 90 days, people would start finding their way back to some sort of normalcy.

nah. Its the MSM, and it would be right back to normal.

Somehow, some time ago, "the news" morphed into pundits spouting opinions. We used to have the Sunday morning roundtables of "Meet the Press" and "Face the Nation", which were at least fact based opinion shows. I am struggling to bring to mind a single national television "news" show that isn't biased.

While I have a firm grasp on the first amendment and what it means to this country, it should be mandated that unless a show is strictly going to state facts - you know, the actual news - there should be a disclaimer at the beginning of each show and after every commercial that it is entertainment television. Because that's all it is. Both sides are incredible liars through all of their media outlets, fearmongering and agitating the fringes of their respective bases. They serve no other purpose than to serve themselves. And either its making Americans dumber as a whole or they've always been this dumb and I've given them too much credit. Probably the latter.

Interesting discussion here. BTW all of Kohberger's defense motions have been denied by the judge. Trial set to start in August.

Is no one here a Federal Employee, or know a Federal Employee? You know, like the scientists who are working at the Forestry Science Lab right across the boarder. They have received at least 2 letters and are unsure of whether they will have a job.

No one here a scientist at Wazzu who's salary relies on soft funds (i.e. grants) ? ( That means that their salary comes from the grant.) My (limited) understanding is that all pending/future grants are frozen.

No one here on SSA, medicare or medicaid?

No one here have a child/grandchild who is receives help in schools thru Special Ed services?

It's very easy to talk in broad strokes about how wonderful Musk/Trump's policies of totally eliminating gov agencies is if it doesn't directly effect you. I would add the majority of these Fed Employees are "normal" folks just like us.

Agree with most of this except the part about the "best thing" patrol has ever posted.

He's posted a lot of good shit regarding WSU and our true lot in life and the fan base.

But yeah, most people find themselves exactly where they are because of choices. The only quibble is what preceeded those "choices" based off home environment and support structure in the home and friends. Some of us don't have those same "advantages" from the get-go. Of course, I know both of you are well aware. That's all I have to say about that.

Actual facts, or “alternative facts”?

Saw the news on Kohberger. Seems like the sound of nails being pounded into that coffin is getting louder. Or maybe I just want it to. Gotta say, I like the judge and how he’s basically laughing at all of the defense’s wild attempts to disqualify everything.

My salary is currently sourced about 50% from soft money. I’m in an essential function though, so if it becomes necessary my funding will move to allocated money. That only makes me feel slightly more comfortable, since the state budget is also getting reduced.
