I got to see the first impacts of Trump's threatened tariffs that are supposed to happen today. I had a construction project bid yesterday and the cost per lineal foot of 8 PVC pipe jumped 33% and will increase the cost for future residents of the subdivision by about $20 per month. I was told that the price bump was in anticipation of higher pipe prices when the project goes to construction in a month. #winning

But we can look forward to cheaper American grown ag products since they will be slapped with retaliatory tariffs and won’t be competitive internationally. Glad I’m not a farmer.

$20/mo probably isn’t enuff to interfere with their fentanyl budget. Win/win?

After today, the most affordable exports from Mexico, China, and Canada will be meth, fentanyl, and pot.

Someone remind me - when was it that Trump was going to start reducing food prices?

I must admit that I thought that the Trump "revenge tour" would not be this pervasive. I thought maybe more important issues like running the country and dealing with minor items like Ukraine, Gaza, etc. would take precedence. But after 12 days, it just keeps getting worse. This latest news (below) about Musk's minions locking people out of their computer access is a bit scary. How can that even happen?

My biggest fear regards the military. Pulling decorated General Mark Milley's portraits off of the Pentagon walls? This is 3rd grade behavior. So what happens when Trump decides to attack Panama or Greenland or whoever, and Hegseth parrots those orders? Do the Joint Chiefs and the Pentagon in general do it? And if they say no, then what? He fires them and works down the chain until he gets to Trump fanatics who will carry out the orders? What's next - martial law?

The RFK Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard nominations may be where the rubber hits the road as far as the Republican fealty to Trump goes. Mitch McConnell surprised me by voting "No" on Hegseth. With his own retirement in 2026 pending, and being a Trump-hater, he may have finally found his gonads. Need a few more R's to find theirs.

Oh and "ICE Barbie" Kristi Noem in full tactical gear (the pictures I saw didn't show whether she was actually packing, if so dogs and goats everywhere beware). I mean WTF? Really? Although I don't quite understand how she can keep looking hotter and hotter.

As painful as a Tariff war is. USA has already been bent over taking it in the rear.

China, others have been slapping the US with the occasional tariff, occasionally charging more for their stuff that trading to us, and occasionally pay lower prices for US stuff, an or tell, say they occasionally won't buy US stuff, and other DRACONIAN to USA trade policies, for years, that have hurt USA for years.

That's PART of why the economy has been so bad for years under Biden, past president's, is the USA just accepts, take whatever Draconian trade policies, bent over in the rear.

The only way to stop that, is to either stop trading, stop buying from draconian trade policy countries, at least for a while to make a point, or occasionally slap back with the occasional tariff.

Yeah sure it can, semi is painful to US, to do that.

But it's also painful being bent over, and being economically semi raped, taking it the rear for years.

All Trump is doing, is saying "Enough of that crap. Either we have fair, equal good trade, or we will slap you back with Tariffs, etc."

Often the threat of that can solve things. But Democrats and spineless repubs both, have either not threatened that, an or if have threatened that, had their bluff called, not backed up the threat with walking away, not selling, tariffs, so much so, for years, that other countries can, do say "Oh Yeah what are you going to do about it, not sell?, Not walk away?, hit us with a Tariff?, You do that, and we will do the same, and we are willing to do that, take a little pain, but you are not, and you need us, so your going to take whatever crumbs we give you, and like it"

So because of that sometimes the only way to deal with that is to slap them back with Tariffs, etc, and take a little pain, until they decide that they don't want more pain, then both sides go back to more fair, normal, and prices, etc, go down, cheaper, etc.

That's standard tradenomics, economics, psychology, logic, etc.

We may not like it, but sometimes you have to slap the trade bullies on the hand to stop them, or they will continue trade bullying the US.

Remember, Trump is the one who said he wished he had generals like Hitler’s. Guys who would just do what they’re told, and not worry about things like laws.

Heard something interesting on Overtime With Bill Maher... said all the tech bros and Trump could fleece the US via Crypto and there is no "paper trail". Better than using cash.

Tough guy talk is just that. Im old enough to remember Mexico was supposed to pay for a wall.

Gates is on the record as being opposed to tariffs. Apparently your Twitter algorithm only allows you to see conspiracies?
I did as you asked. I searched, Bill Gates News.

6 hours ago he said crypto currency is a scam and has no value.

The entry before that was three days ago when he said he’s working with Trump. Fox News had a story on that.

I’ve found nothing about Bill Gates taking a position on the most recent events that echo your concerns. 🤷

I asked grok:

Based on the information available up to February 02, 2025, there are no specific public comments from Bill Gates within the past 5 days directly addressing Trump's tariffs. The most recent information on his views pertains to earlier statements from his history of commentary on international policy and economic decisions. If there have been new developments or statements, they would not be captured in the provided data or public records from that timeframe.

Sorry Mik, I didn’t read all that and don’t really know what to think, TBH I’m just watching from the cheap seats while all this intrigue plays out in realtime, trying to keep my $.97/ea bag of avocados fresh until the Super Bowl… that I’m not going to watch.

I’ve lived through bad economies. I’ve been in oil states during 3 different oil crashes. What we’ve had for the past decade is not a bad economy. There are only a couple of things that could damage this economy. A major foreign war. A major energy supply disruption. Or a significant trade war. If I thought that being a schoolyard bully would be an effective negotiating tactic, and that Trump is smart enough to manage the unintended consequences, then his actions would make sense. I guess we will find out. Let’s see if he is smart enough to attack homelessness with better mental health services & access. That would amaze me further.

And you're loving it, right? You got to make another whiny post on this board!!!!

Looks like MSNBC picked up a viewer.

I'm willing to live with martial law if it prevents you from drip drying in the gym locker room.

We literally just wrapped up 4 years of you dipshits whining about litter boxes, cat eating immigrants, and laptops.
I suppose you're loving it too. Maybe we can just have one running thread about Trump complaints? Daily (hourly?) ones will get tiresome.

Busy morning @doge.

Elon, these are weighty accusations. You’d better be able to back up your chit.

Some of you will follow the links and follow the comments then use your critical thinking skills to ask yourself questions and seek answers.

Others will wait until propagandists read for you what is being written in realtime and sit impatiently until the propagandists tell you what to think and what you need to do next.

Good luck.

Did you see that?

Lindsey Graham is now full support on Tulsi, RFK and Kash. He expects all 3 to be confirmed this week.

And some will look at who wrote it and accept it as gospel, once again being spoon fed their propaganda in easily digestible social media bites. And they’ll pretend like it’s news that there’s graft in politics, while ignoring the mountain of shady shit their orange idol and his uber-wealthy friends of the moment are responsible for….and probably perpetrating now.

Shame on you, Crazy! What is wrong with you, waiting to evaluate the consequences of the tariffs until things shake out and we get to evaluate all of the pluses and minuses of them. Since it is all about Trump, it is important to immediately have a premature ejaculation in your pants and then start yelling that Orange Man Is BAD!

A few things for all of us to think about:
1. The US has used tariffs before.
2. Nothing says that the tariffs will be in place forever
3. Agree with his effectiveness or disagree, the fact is that Trump is a negotiator. These tariffs are simply the opening salvo.
4. A stated reason for the tariffs is to force Canada and Mexico to clamp down on the border, especially WRT the flow of drugs, in particular fentanyl. That seems like an admirable goal to me.
5. I have seen Kevin O'Leary, aka Mr. Wonderful, say that he supports tariffs, especially with China. He said that Trump should do 50% or 100% tariffs with China to force them to be a better partner. I am quite sure that Mr Wonderful knows a Helluva lot more about business, international trade, etc than anyone here. Maybe more than all of us put together. He is a very smart guy and has made piles of money.
6. Larry Kudlow made an interesting point the other on the tariffs. He basically said the key is to not look at the tariffs in a vacuum, but to see what happens when all of Trump's economic agenda is implemented. This would include working to lower energy costs, reducing regulations, lowering taxes, etc.

I think it would be interesting to have a look at Flat's contractor's bid. He states that they jacked it way up in anticipation of material increases, but what happens if the tariffs are negotiated away in the next month or two? That could happen, maybe even before the job in contracted to start. Does the contractor then get to enjoy a windfall profit? Hmmmm.

Anyway, I know all you TDS infected folks here will wail and knash your teeth about the sky is falling and I am just licking an orange taint, but if you will just take a few deep breaths and maybe have a couple shots of Jose Cuervo to mellow out you get away from the tendency to look at tariffs with tunnel vision and TDS and just wait to actually understand the long term impacts.

And I will admit that I don't know what the long term effects will be, and how long it will take before we can make an educated evaluation. And the reality is that none of the rest of you guys here know right now what the effects will be either, but have fun pretending that you do. Premature ejaculation feels so good, right?

Yup. 100%. If anything Occam’s razor forces one to the same conclusion regarding lawyers. That said I would exempt one of my neighbors. Good guy. The other one living down the other end of the street however is a complete monster.

If you believe Tariffs on Mexico and Canada are going to have any significant impact on drugs in this country you are even more naive than you appear. And that is saying something.
