Houston just fired

Major Applewhite. Our Cougs play these Cougs early next season.
It hasn't been a secret that Applewhite was going to get fired. Houston has a major billionaire donor who runs the program and who acts more like a fantasy team owner. Houston desperately want to be accepted into the Big 12, but the Big 12 thinks they are a joke and want no part of them.

The talent they can recruit there is unreal...all within 20 miles of the university. Longer term, I see them moving up.

I was surprised when the rumors started. 7-5 and 8-5 weren’t meeting expectations?
Was pretty embarrassing what happened to them in the bowl game. May have not liked the way he handled Oliver too.

Weak academics. They have been spending on improvement for quite a while, but that is a really long slope. They were known as "Cougar High" in the 70's & '80's. It is an easy argument to keep them out of a P5 league on that basis, if no other.

Great point. Also, how much does Houston bring the Big 12? You want more TV sets, but the conference already has the Texas market.

When your school President says at a banquet that “the expectation is 10-2 at Houston. We fire coaches for 8-4,” that pretty much sums it up.

Was that their President? I thought it was the AD.

Regardless of which school official it was, it was a stupid thing to say.
So true. Interestingly enough, it is rumored that they want to go after Dana Holgerson. At one time, he was the OC at Houston after he left Texas Tech. In eight years as a head coach, he has only won more than eight games twice. (Which makes it weird that some on here have said Leach should pick Holgerson's brain, but that is a different conversation).

Yea, but at least it was honest. Houston may not be a blue blood program, but in their league, they should win 10 games.
Cougars don't eat their own.

People who know football know it is not the college president or AD who should be making these decisions, but a color commentator on their radio broadcast.
