As I said, the hard part will be winning the argument for using endowment funds for athletics. I'm sure that a lot of it can and does have usage restrictions. And without knowing anything about all that confidential information, I think that the most likely possibility for endowment assistance is to only allocate interest earnings to the AD and not touch the principle amounts. That way the AD would not be eating into the amounts donated, only restricting the growth of the funds.
The CAF is part of the endowment, but it's not clear how much is in any part. Last info I saw said that the total was somewhere near $630M. But, a lot of that has been designated for a destination by the donors, so it would take some maneuvering to use it for athletics. Anything that was an unrestricted donation or specifically for the CAF could certainly be used...if we wanted to do that. The idea of allocating the interest to the CAF is interesting, I'm not aware of anything that would make that out of bounds.
It was an unusual use of "incremental." I had to read it several times before I think I understood what he meant, and by the time I think I had the idea, I didn't care anymore. I don't think it matters anyway, I don't expect we'll give the coaches pay cuts. We'll either find a pot of cash that we can use, or we'll do some creative renegotiations that push some expenses down the road. Reality is that we need to plan for the reductions that will come with something closer to MWC membership, because we're not getting invited to another power conference. All of this talk about the Big 12 is internet rumor without basis, and anyone who believes it at this point is borderline delusional.Goodbye then.
And for the rest of the board, any thoughts on what my "latest stupidity" is would be appreciated. I think my posts are quite intelligent, save for some humor once in a while.
