How soon before Riley is ran out of USC...?

As I said, the hard part will be winning the argument for using endowment funds for athletics. I'm sure that a lot of it can and does have usage restrictions. And without knowing anything about all that confidential information, I think that the most likely possibility for endowment assistance is to only allocate interest earnings to the AD and not touch the principle amounts. That way the AD would not be eating into the amounts donated, only restricting the growth of the funds.

The CAF is part of the endowment, but it's not clear how much is in any part. Last info I saw said that the total was somewhere near $630M. But, a lot of that has been designated for a destination by the donors, so it would take some maneuvering to use it for athletics. Anything that was an unrestricted donation or specifically for the CAF could certainly be used...if we wanted to do that. The idea of allocating the interest to the CAF is interesting, I'm not aware of anything that would make that out of bounds.

Goodbye then.

And for the rest of the board, any thoughts on what my "latest stupidity" is would be appreciated. I think my posts are quite intelligent, save for some humor once in a while.
It was an unusual use of "incremental." I had to read it several times before I think I understood what he meant, and by the time I think I had the idea, I didn't care anymore. I don't think it matters anyway, I don't expect we'll give the coaches pay cuts. We'll either find a pot of cash that we can use, or we'll do some creative renegotiations that push some expenses down the road. Reality is that we need to plan for the reductions that will come with something closer to MWC membership, because we're not getting invited to another power conference. All of this talk about the Big 12 is internet rumor without basis, and anyone who believes it at this point is borderline delusional.

While it is possible that Riley is looking at the NFL, what I find more likely is that he wants the Admin to THINK he is looking, so he can get some contract extension/protection after this season goes south.
He’s realizing he just took his all offense no defense thing two time zones west and is bound for the same or probably my worse results he got at UO. Life’s going to be really hard in the Big10 and he knows it.

$630M is about right as of the end of 2022 (link below). I don't know, and don't think the land grant endowment is included in that number. As far the endowment(s) go, by definition an endowment is restricted for a certain use, with limited exceptions (say a donor gives an unrestricted gift and WSU decides to endow it so it can be added to the investment pool.

I don't know what is up 425's ass. He incorrectly used a word, and I quizzed him about it.

Sc as usual, was vastly over rated, even when anyone with eyes watching their crappy, strainer of a defense could see how unorganized it was and weak it was. That’s what being located in LA can buy for a team. They’ll get beaten like a drum in the Big Ten and it will be too funny to hear them bitching about it. Althoug, I’ll never tune into the sorry station carrying their nasty game.

I'd be curious to see a study comparing the week-to-week rankings to the final rankings over the last 25-30 years, showing the accuracy and validity of rankings as the season progresses. My guess is that the preseason and week 1 rankings have very little validity.

Two unlikely but non-zero probability things for people to consider in light of possible realignment issues:

- Jake Dickert, USC defensive coordinator
- Alex Grinch, WSU head coach

The first is really unlikely, but if WSU goes 4-8 or something and Dickert wants out with the knowledge that a lot of the remaining key talent is transferring, and/or he is pressured to restructure his deal, this is a decidedly non-zero proposition. Even less likely than it otherwise would be in part because I agree Riley already likely is looking around.

The second isn't as unlikely, especially if Chun leaves, but still is unlikely overall. Schulz's plan if Leach left when Grinch was still the DC was to hire Grinch as the head coach. Believe this was during the period when Moos had left and we didn't have an AD, and there was concern about Leach leaving after what I call the "Tennessee dalliance."

Grinch as WSU HC? When Hell freezes over. A mediocre D coordinator being elevated to be head coach? I'm not seeing it. I wouldn't hire him if I was Chun.
