Is Rolovich finally in our rear view mirror forever

Sweeney, Sherril, Powers, Walden. 4 - coaches in 4 years had an awful lot of Cougar fans saying, “Who?” back in the day.

Who would fund the legal bills at this point? And what precedent would they follow? My brother is another of the state employees who fired himself over this issue, and my understanding from him is that no one has successfully overturned the decision or received anything. Obviously the state would prioritize winning any appeal, since they would not want to establish a precedent...so Rolo would face a large effort and legal bill with (at this point) small odds of success.

If Rolovich's legal counsel is smart, they are going to tell him that it's time to walk away and move on with life. As noted in the post quoted, he's not only fighting WSU....he's going to be fighting the state government.

Rolovich's biggest problem is that his profound religious beliefs didn't come up as a reason until very, very late in the game and any reasonable person knows that it was just a bullsh!t hail mary.

I'm not sure about that. He did let himself get fired, so it was sincere enough that he didn't cave in and get the vaccination.

The reason I say this is that during Covid there was a federal vaccination mandate for federal contractors, and my company was one of them. I had several employees drag their feet until pretty much the last day before submitting exemption requests. They hoped the mandate would be rescinded or accommodations expanded or relaxed. And I know these people personally and they have real, valid objections to the vaccinations (not all vaccinations, just certain ones--I've explained this in the past and don't want to rehash it).

The fact that Rolo and others on his staff, as well as thousands of state employees refused is a testament to their sincerity. I think the timing was quite irrelevant.

Not saying you're wrong Flat, but there are people who for whatever reasons choose to keep their religious and political viewpoints to themselves.

Maybe RoLo didn't mention his "devout" Catholicism until he felt his back was against the wall and he had no other choice? 🤷‍♂️

I'm not saying that he didn't have strong convictions. This is obviously a topic that people feel strongly about. I have a friend who chose to lose his job with the state of Washington rather than get "the jab" and it had nothing to do with religious beliefs.

What I said was that he couldn't provide any proof that his objection to vaccination was faith based until he ran out of other options. I think it's a waste of time to rehash whether those other objections are valid or not....and I guarantee that the courts don't care either. It's water under the bridge in my book.

Well, if he was fired for losing games, he would be due liquidated damages. If he was fired for failure to follow university policy (meaning no vax), he is not.

This was the experience with my team members. They were silent on vaccination until the deadline approached. I suspect the same here. But since there no evidence to the contrary nor can I read Rolo's mind, I think the charitable interpretation is to take the man at his word. Assume the best of people, not the worst.

There's evidence. WSU set up meetings with a vaccine & virology expert for Rolo - something they didn't do for any other employee, by the way - and Rolo spent the meeting asking about whether Bill Gates was involved with the vaccine, whether it had simian virus in it, and a bunch of other conspiracy-linked crap. Religion didn't enter the conversation at all, and Rolo didn't raise a religious objection until very late in the game. And then, he didn't apply for his exemption until it was already too late to get vaccinated if it was denied. He clearly just assumed it would be approved and accepted.

Honestly, I don't see that most of the religious exemptions had much merit anyway. The major vaccines didn't use fetal cells - I don't remember the details anymore, but I think the J&J was the only one that did. I know a lot of people who didn't want it, but it wasn't about religion, it was about mistrust. I think that's what it really was with Rolo too - combined with the arrogant belief that the university wouldn't can him because of who he was. What he never understood was that it really wasn't up to the university, and in the end they had to can him because of who he was.

Just so I can understand what seems to be the support on this...

There are people here who think it was right to force people to get a covid shot even though it was proven that it caused harm to "some" and did not actually stop the spread of the virus?

Are there really people here who think other people died because someone else didn't get the shot?

And no... Kids are not forced. To make such a statement is 100% false. You can say... SOME kids are forced, but definitely in no way are ALL kids forced.

FWIW, who really cares what anyone else thinks? I didn't bring Rolovich up to re-hash arguments that aren't changing minds. I was just asking if the decision means that WSU is done with Rolovich.

And again, I don't really care why he didn't want the jab....we all know that the religious exemption excuse thrown up at the end was total bullsh!t. Whether I think it was "right" or not is irrelevant.

And now that "data" shows it was bogus, none of these institutions will be held accountable, a sickening reality. I pray that when the next round of overreach comes, more will stand for freedom and reject draconian measures of Inslee and Co. from the last round.

You can't seem to grasp that the arguments about the data and all that don't mean sh!t today. At the end, Rolovich tried to use religion as his crutch to escape the jab and the court found that he couldn't prove that he had expressed religious beliefs prior to COVID and even throughout his arguments against the vaccine....until it was a hail mary when he knew he was going to get fired.

You can keep talking about over-reach and you may or may not be wrong.....but I don't give a sh!t and apparently, neither do the courts. At this point, I'm just hoping that the specter of the lawsuit is behind us and WSU (and Rolovich) can finally go on with our lives.

But hey, vent about the unfairness of it all if it makes you feel better.

No it didn't. They were always chasing the latest mutation with covid, unlike with the influenza vaccines which are created from what is the most likely strain they see from the southern hemisphere each year.

The government (CDC specifically) lied so many times about the virus and completely lost their credibility. The damage they've done along with the rest of the healthcare corporations and Big Pharma will take years to repair.

Ed, the emergency use authorization did not require any data showing the vaccines would stop the spread.
