I won't link it because we aren't supposed to, but here's a quote from Robbie Tobeck from the new Brand X article about NIL. I mean seriously, $200K to an offensive lineman? I'm done. F-it. I won't set foot in Martin again. And will never donate dollar one to the "Collective". This is such holy bullshit.

“Throughout last season, many fans complained about our offensive line,” Tobeck told host Kelsey Knutson. “If you want to get a really good offensive lineman, you’re talking about a $50,000 deal, a $150,000 deal, or maybe even a $200,000 NIL deal for that athlete in order to have an offer that is competitive to those of other schools.”

I hate the NIL too but FWIW I’m prioritizing NIL money for lineman before any other position. You can make an average back look pretty damn good behind a solid OLine

I have no problem with players getting paid, but the new NIL world sucks bum. We figured out a way to pay coaches closer to market, but the way NIL is currently setup is ridiculous. No rules, just the "wild west".

I was always fond of the "One Thousand, One Thousand Club as a base for whatever came after....hopefully 2,5 total. Robbie is a breathe of realistic air.

Let's go to the Big Sky. The last bastion of college sport outside of women's bball.

Seems like some cool places to visit if you ask me. Look how much the University of Montana has enjoyed their football since the early 90's.

Kingston making $300,000 must be nice for a college kid. We are doomed when schools dangle the carrots like this.

Prob $75,000 of that went to tuition. Prob another $75,000 to housing. He likely dropped half of it right away. Say hello to California taxes? More gone. If he were smart he’d get a masters degree and ride off into the sunset with that and a few bucks. Maybe a down payment on a house somewhere with what’s left?

I did sign up for the $18.90/month for the collective but I do realize that it's nothing more than pissing in the wind.

It’s better strategy than WSU in general. Get you in the door at a small amount, you’re more likely to be willing to increase.

Hell, at least they have a strategy. I’ve never seen a clear one from WSU.

I'd rather donate to the collect myself, rather than to the general athletic scholarship fund. As a matter fact, I am going to switch my monthly allotment over now.

And thus begins the slow descent into the abyss. WSU won't be the only one dealing with repercussions.

That's not a judgment on your decision, at all - it's an economic choice. While charitable giving should be altruistic and mission-driven, the fact of the matter is people vote with their checkbooks by giving to the organization of which they perceive the greatest ROI on their money.

Can't imagine any scenario where NIL contributions will be additive to the existing WSU athletic donor numbers. It's an either/or, not an and decision.

The upside may be that more competent people have greater influence over the athletic department via NIL leverage. The downside may be that less competent people have greater influence over the athletic department via NIL leverage.

Shit, guys -- all this has been obvious since NIL came on the scene. One of these threads is from that time in 2019. We had people claiming NIL wouldn't affect recruiting and would just "let kids earn a few bucks" for signing a few autographs and trying to give "Chicken Littles" shit for seeing the eminently foreseeable impacts. C'mon.

I'm sure all of the accounting and tax reporting has been stellar. How long before someone gets jail time for tax evasion?

Just read that Arch Manning is not being paid any NIL money until he becomes a starter. Apparently, it is something his family agreed on, but when you have money, it is easy to make calls like that. I am sure he'll make a couple million a year when he is a starter. Just thought it was interesting that the Manning family has decided he needs to earn it, and not expect it.

Here is the link, consider the source.

Arch is from poor Cooper Manning's loins.

Not Eli/Peyton rich.

Plus it's good optics for the family.

Loyal1, certainly within a person's right not to contribute financially to the Cougar Collective, but why all of a sudden refrain from going to WSU home games?

Cougar Nation didn't set these NCAA rules

Dr. Schultz and his AD still need revenue to support all of the athletics programs. They're working their tails off to build a state-of-the-art IPF to keep up with the competition

He's not in their league, but I'd bet Cooper has a higher net worth than anyone here. The guy is/was a partner in an energy trading firm. Not necessarily the kind of money to spit at $2m a year for the kid, necessarily, but still, vastly different from most parents of recruits.

I was half-joking. I have a child in New Orleans who is plugged into that world. The Mannings are the top of society in the Crescent City.

Obs11, you and the wife should dine at Commander's Palace in Garden District (the Mannings' neighborhood) next time your visiting your child in New Orleans. Wonderful.

Same goes for Mr. B's in the French Quarter. Terrific!

Good point 425

Wonder if his father's "energy connection" helped the University of Texas in landing Arch? 🤔

thirteen million and been with AJ Capital Partners since 2006'. . Young Arch is used to being around money...he'll have his own income soon.
