Official Game Thread Cougs vs. Beavs

Told you. Lets fire the coach. Makes sense. Dumbass logic.

I think he has given more responsibility to his coordinators which has helped a lot. Not confirmed at all just a guess?

Great win
Great game to watch - high entertainment value for any football fan

Interesting thing is that OSU did not play poorly. They did what they do best and pound the ball. They also tried to pass and it didn't succeed but they won games with that same formula in the last two games. Their defense is not horrible but not great either.

In the end, the Cougs were the better team. Defense did it's job and the offense adjusted to get the scores needed.

Great win!

Heck of an effort. That is a really good team we just beat...and one we don't really match up against.

Probably should have won going away, but those red zone issues are fixable.

Team showed a lot of heart today. We tend to lose those games more often than not.

And I am never one to bitch about the refs..but those 2 PI calls...and the no hold call on Harris in the endzone were just brutal...but we overcame them.

One for the ages IMO.

Dickert better figure it out. This isn’t Minnesota Mankato where you can line up 280 and 240 on the DL and make plays. You cant put a 190 hybrid out there and take on 2-3 tight ends.

He is outcoached today. Badly.
satisfied?(rhetorical, I know youre not...)

Your politics are showing. You sit here and judge to what purpose. He embarrassed your politics, not the university. He is backward why exactly? Because he is making a decision you dont agree with? Shocking.
Frightened of vaccines, 300 years of proven technology, that has been administered to billions and billions of people safely and effectively, never having significant adverse medical consequences, ever -- that is being backward and irrational by definition. It is like believing in the flat Earth. Believing it sincerely, doesn't make you rational. That's not politics, Disagreeing over the correct Fed monetary policy, that politics. Sorry, Rolo is being backward and irrational. What sound reasons could he have? The fact that you can't answer that, proves my point.

Actually pretty sad...and a distraction not needed but it is here. In years past we would be celebrating the win, breaking down what was right and what was wrong. I would rather be talking about the comeback from JDL after a horrible pick but the truth of the matter what is about to transpire is sad.

It was a game of chicken. Rolo stuck to his guns. Do you think Inslee will blink? Why would he? He has more to lose if he does.

But back to the original point. A well called game, kids making plays, the coverage in the secondary was very good. Nice creativity on the goal line with the pass to Deon.

I will say on the things we need to improve on is how to make Borghi effective.

This institution had in its employ Grover Krantz at a time when the football coach (a former Nebraska assistant) was regularly covering up assaults by his players
The fact that WSU allowed a big foot believer to become tenured, doesn't make Rolo any less an embarrassment, does it? They were/are both cringe worthy on a reason and science basis. But Grover was obscure, and tenured, Rolo isn't and has made himself a national cringe worth news story. Grover's height of fame and our embarrassment was a caption on a History Channel big foot conspiracy show identifying him as a WSU prof. If only Rolo was that obscure. But no, he has to be the biggest name at an institution whose mission is antithetical to the position he is taking.

Agree...it isn't like the NFL and face guarding. MArsh made a great play. The offensive player was pushing off to gain separation. There should not have been a call on that play.

Is it just me, or was this the first game we made major adjustments at the half on offense, i.e. sticking with what worked and dumping what didn't? It certainly caught the Beavs off guard. Spread the field to make JDL's job easier, that is straight out of the Leach playbook.

I think JDL turned the wrong way. But it made the play more effective. We haven't seen "the rump turn" around here in many a year! And to pass out of it!

If there is a similarity between JDL and Gesser, play break downs don't rattle them. Now if JDL can start to hit the deep ball on broken plays like Gesser, he will be hard to stop.

The Rolo situation is really depressing. Not because I think he's a great coach. I'm not sure on that yet, but if he gets let go because of this, it's going to take the air completely out of our program.

Whether we "like" him or not, it's clear that the players do, at least it is to me, it's going to suck for them to lose him like this. It's also really unfair to the assistant coaches, who seem to fully invested in the program.

June Jones was spot on. There are lot more people involved in this situation than Rolo himself. A lot of lives hinge on this. Wish he would have handled it differently.

Have you watched Bad Sports on Netflix, the Italian Football episode, I know that crap has been and is happening in the Pac-12. 40 years of bad calls unduly favoring the conference favorites and leaders. Two bad PIs on us down the stretch to keep the Beavs in the game, our PI, 5 times worse, completely ignored. It just always seems to happen!

Yep...take a guy like Mark Banker. Very well thought of older coach. He did a great job at OSU from like 04 to 2012. Went with Riley to Nebraska. Riley got fired. He now starts over, made it up to Hawaii and now WSU making some good money. Unlike Rolo who may have longer term protection, (three years) banker does not. And out of all the position groups the defensive backfield (along with Richardson--for you A and M fan coug poser) has the one who jas played the best the last two years and made the biggest jump this year.

June Jones blew a 17 pt lead to Paul Wulff's least talented team and now he's Rolo's life coach?

At least Walden kept up his grift until the end.

Turd will have recruited 3 classes… The first shorthanded cause he was just hired, the second was a pandemic class and now this class dealing with this Mickey Mouse bullshit. Is WSU a school that can handle 3 low classes in a row?
Speaking of turds....

Called 28 point second half…..winning!
Just got home. Was on the road and had to listen to the game on satellite radio (OSU radio broadcast) and it's interesting to go back and read the game thread after the fact. I will give you 100% credit, MRI. You amazingly predicted 28 second half points and your defense of JDL was very much warranted. I generally avoid commenting during a game or making predictions....more often than not, I'll be wrong and look rather foolish in hindsight. Impressive win!

Glad Cougar

The financial ramifications for the entire staff could be crushing. If he leaves there will be staff that never work at a P5 university again. They will never see this kind of paycheck again. Their families may have to move or sell homes. Kids pulled out of school. For what? A guy that won’t take a vaccine to protect his $3,200,000 paycheck and the livelihoods of his entire on and off field staffs? He is an asshole if it gets to this.

Same could be said of Rich Rod being fired at UofA. If I was a coach that spent 25 years working my way thru the coaching ranks and finally got hired at a P5 school making mid 6 figures… and RR gets us all fired cause he can’t keep it in his pants???? Ahem, I’d be pissed.

You are proactively stupid, but enjoy that. Flat earth really? Are you dense? You judge and have no concept of reality because your basing things on unreality. You are a simple person. Very simple.

Great win, it surprised me. Rolo is now 4-6, in his short tenure has equaled the Turd’s win total for his career
Hopefully the offense has it figured out, Utah is embarrassing USC, I ‘ll let the season play out, but there might be 2-3 more wins out there if the offense can score 30 + a game

One win shy of Wulff's career P-12 win total and already has more wins against Cal and OSU.

I think my favorite part was how we stuck with the run into the 2nd half for the first time this season. I thought we were in trouble at halftime, at that point it looked like we had already abandoned it. Then we come out on the first drive and run it halfway downfield.

The mystery to me is why OSU went away from their run late. They were getting huge chunks, especially on that power sweep…and then decided to go exclusively to the air.

The mission of this university?

They've been playing concussion ball for 120 yrs.

WSU AD went broke and now COogVIDiot twitter wants them to be also be woke.

If goal is to get back to guilt free 2008 era tailgating, just get another Wulff who will recruit local kids (Puckett/Furness), have a dog (Jim Moore), talk about microbrews and macaroni recipes (WokeCenter), and will tease GSL recruits to ClickFarm. Then have some woketern runs his (her? they?) Twitter account with the proper pronouns.

Nobody will remember Rolo or Grover.

Yeah, you being a douche definitely made the difference….

FWIW, I still think that JDL is one of the worst starting QB's we've had at WSU in the past 30 years. At the time I posted my criticism, we had scored a total of 3 points in the last 54 minutes of game time. We didn't beat Cal because of JDL, we beat them in spite of him. He could have ended Jackson's career with that sh!tty throw that caused him to take a shot in the middle of the back. Nearly every pass in the first half was thrown poorly. How many times did a receiver have to change their route or stop because the pass was off? The answer was all the frickin' time. One of the drops in the first half that should have been a TD was 50% JDL and 50% receiver. Poorly thrown ball that forced the receiver to reach back further than he needed to combined with a receiver turning his head too soon to get going. A better thrown pass would have been a TD.

Everyone here knows that JDL would finish dead fuggin' last in an All Star QB competition throwing at targets.

We lost to Utah State because we got outscored 15-3 in the fourth quarter. That's not all JDL's fault, and it was obviously dumb to start Guarantano, but when it mattered late, JDL couldn't deliver. Against USC, JDL started out good but whatever happened at the end of the first half of that game jacked him up. His next three passes were interception, incomplete and incomplete. The last incompletion should have been picked but it was so bad that the USC players weren't ready for it. In JDL's defense, he shouldn't have been on the field at that point because he was clearly not with it.

We beat Cal but anyone who thinks that the incredible TD by Jackson was a good pass is an idiot. The reason that it was the #1 play on ESPN is because Jackson took a mediocre blind chuck and did something with it. 99% of the time that is just another incompletion. If not for our defense suddenly doing a Speed D impersonation, Cal would have boatraced us. They had the ball five times in our part of the field and only came away with six points. We were definitely more lucky than good.

Did JDL play well in the second half yesterday? Hell yes. If he played like that every game, nobody would complain about him. The problem with the dude is that he's been a 30 minute player in every game that he's played in. I hope the kid finds some accuracy and the he leads our team like he did in the second half against Oregon State. I'm ready to be a big fan. I'm not going to watch a guy lead an anemic offense that goes 3 1/2 quarters with only three points and pretend like that's a good thing.

So yeah, if JDL keeps playing games where we can't play offense for 30 minutes at a time, I'm going to be critical. Let's hope he starts playing 60 minutes a game.

What's the one thing he can't do in that spot? Just the one thing. Throw a pick. Hicks made a great play. WE have three points. This is the problem if you don't have big plays. And they won't allow a one pass chuck and you need someone to string together 8 plays without a mistake.

Not sure what Rolo's antics have to do with not throwing it away?

de Laura will never go 7 for 10, right?

I don’t disagree about JDL overall, but here’s the counterpoint: in every game this season before yesterday, the play calling in the 2nd half put the entire offense on JDL’s shoulders. We completely abandoned the run, and WE told our freshman QB to beat them with his arm. Big surprise, he couldn’t.

Yesterday, we maintained some options in the second half and the offense helped him out. It wasn’t all up to JDL, and he had his best half of football at WSU.

Coincidence? I don’t think so.

It’s one thing if the D takes away the run game and forces your QB to throw. It’s entirely different if you do it yourself. That’s what’s known as “stupid.”
