uh, no.This was win-win for Coach D and the Cougs. If they win, they “overcame adversity.” If they lose, it is Rolo’s fault. Either way, they come out smelling like roses.
Rolo would have won that one.
JDL was suddenly and noticeably the same JDL from the beginning of the season. The kid was playing with a broken heart, and it showed, so yeah I think if Rolo et al were still coaching he hits a few of those long passes that he'd gotten better at instead of missing horribly. The kid is all heart and balls and he plays like it.Would he? Would Rolovich have been able to keep our holder from dropping the ball on that PAT? If not for that, the game is 21-21 late and we aren't playing with desperation.
If you look back at our winning streak, the way that the team played yesterday wasn't much different. Long stretches of ineffective offense with stretches of good offensive play. Defense getting shredded at times but making enough plays to hold the opponent below their season average on scoring.
Stanford was moving the ball at will on us in the second half until very late. We gave up 232 yards and 17 points in 4 drives in one stretch in the second half against the Cardinal. Oregon State had 289 yards of offense in the second half and was shredding us...but we got a pick and a turnover on downs to save the day. It's easy to forget how ineffective our offense was in the first half against the Beavers. Against Cal, the Bears repeatedly drove the ball into our end of the field and into the redzone but only got one score. BYU was a more disciplined (cheating at times?) and physical team than those other three. They are now 4-0 against the Pac-12 this year.
We might have won with Rolovich coaching......but it's just as likely that the game would have played out exactly the same. Dickert and his staff did a pretty good job against a team that's pretty good. Some will say, "But, but, but, BYU had lost two in a row!" That doesn't mean that they suck. They had a bad outing against Boise State and turned the ball over 4 times. Kids have bad days. In 2017, we lost to a bad Cal team because of turnovers. Were we terrible? Baylor is 6-1 and ranked in the Top 25. I know that folks here don't want to hear it, but you aren't a bad team just because you got beat by a Top 25 opponent. We'll know a lot more about BYU after they play UVa. If they win that game, they are likely to run the table and finish the regular season 10-2. They are better than anyone else that we've played this year and there is no way for anyone to "know" that Rolovich would have led us to a win yesterday.
Ummm… you are more emotional than analytical. I have numerous times that JDLs shortcomings will come to pass. I am not bagging on the kid, cause the guy is a gamer.JDL was suddenly and noticeably the same JDL from the beginning of the season. But go back to Leach’s game against BYU . They showed everyone how to deal with the air raid . That was the same game plan uw used against us and will continue to use against us. Yes it is a different offense but they will make us run the ball and string together 10 plays without a loss or penalty to score . Almost all of JDLs TDS came via a long throw.
BYU played three down lineman. They dared us to run. They took away the deep throws . They made JDL throw into double coverage when he got inpatient . What they need to add to the offense is have Borghi to chip on a block and hook up in a zone .
I think having our full staff, and more importantly our fired OC calling the plays would have been enough for the win.Would he? Would Rolovich have been able to keep our holder from dropping the ball on that PAT? If not for that, the game is 21-21 late and we aren't playing with desperation.

Nah, you are more anecdotal than logical.Ummm… you are more emotional than analytical. I have numerous times that JDLs shortcomings will come to pass. I am not bagging on the kid, cause the guy is a gamer.

Please explain?I think having our full staff, and more importantly our fired OC calling the plays would have been enough for the win.
Nah, you are more anecdotal than logical.
Feel free to note that I didn't say that we absolutely wouldn't have won. I said that given how this season has actually gone, it's likely that the game would have played out exactly the same as it did with it being incumbent for our defense to make a stop to win the game. Don't forget that our amazing OC called a game plan that led to 3 points in the first half against OSU and 7 points in a half against Cal. We have had one of the worst offenses in the conference all season.I think having our full staff, and more importantly our fired OC calling the plays would have been enough for the win.

Byu is better than the teams we beat . Number one. Number two is byu played us different than the three other schools taking away our deep pass. If JDL doesn’t complete long passes against osu and stanford do we win? Logic ?Who was calling the plays then? Who was our starting QB? First game of the season. Poor comparison of where this team stood then vs the team that beat 3 Pac-12 teams in a row with a staff that looked like they were getting the team moving in the right direction. The vast majority would agree with that, and even ESPN was getting us recognition for such. I wasn't happy early in the season with the team or Rolo, but after those 3 wins I really thought that the staff was in control of this team and I was optimistic about them moving forward.
Stutzman taking over calling the O plays and JDL starting/taking all the snaps at QB IMO was the most obvious reason for seeing the improvement.
Logic...
