The genie is out of the bottle and they aren’t going away. The level of play is up, especially at schools where the demographics support private coaching etc but the overall numbers of kids playing is down. You figure out real quick you’re in for an ass whooping if your not playing the club circuit. Oh, and have you seen the graphics on play station? The level of play there is way up as well.Youth sports parents and "elite" or "select" teams are a plague on our society. Baseball and soccer both make basketball look like little league cons.
Boys side maybe that is true… not so true in the girls side . Blazers, Stars use to pillage lesser clubs all the time for the lesser teams best player.Yes and no. There's a few con artists. They get exposed pretty quickly.
You also have a ton of former GU players coaching their kids now and there was a generation of Stockton(Steve and John)/Ehlo kids too. For the most part, high school teams effectively stayed together for AAU seasons. Eastern Elite is/was sponsored by Hoopfest and they aren't some fly by night, get rich quick with promises of schollies.
It's a different culture than the west side.

Sam Adams was as bad as they come . Now Nike has driven a lot of the clubs in Seattle out of the market place .
But the greater point is there is increasing demand for select teams and at the same time the participation is way down .

I had girls recruited off my teams. We were a AA feeder team mostly from the valley. D-bag coaches who already had "elite" teams came after my best players. All of them were getting quality and quantity minutes and had greatly improved their individual game from their previous level. In 2 seasons I lost my top 5 scorers. One of them (probably my favorite) went to Spokane Elite and pretty much sat. Instead of playing 90% or more of the game with me, she played about 20%. Pissed me off. Not one of the others actually improved their game...they were the same in HS as they were in 7th grade. Despicable.
My last team was composed of the loyal players left over and players looking for a team. Most. Favorite. Team. Ever! Taihtsat
