Just another reason Larry Scott has to go.
True but knowing that over half your games can’t be viewed by a huge chunk of the TV audience doesn’t help. 5* kids are stars. They want to be seen. They are hi potential future NFL kids. They aren’t gonna be ok with that. And that’s a Larry problem first and foremost. As for the coaches, 1. The revenue isn’t there for schools to get out of bad contracts and hire better coaches (starts with Larry) 2. With the nonsense going on with the league, referees, Woodys meddling, etc that’s a distraction for coaches they don’t need. I’m sure Leach is great at compartmentalizing, but him sending a series of emails to the league office after games because of their clear incompetence (Larrry) isn’t ideal when coaches already work around the clock to prepare for games, recruit, etc.I think there is more to it. I think the other schools do a better job recruiting. I think they do a better job taking care of people. I think the $ they throw at football has tipped the scale.
This is a business deal for a lot of kids now. Better facilities, schools that spend $ and coaches that build better relationships are winning talent.
5 star talent helps, 5 star coaching talent is running low in the PAC 12 too.....

First, I wanted to mention that our TV situation isn't as bad as some people think. Fox routinely televised Pac-12 games in the mid afternoon here in the Midwest. It was never the Cougs....but the conference was featured regularly. I had a cohort bitch that UCLA vs UW was on in prime time in the Midwest instead of a Big 12 game. The only complaint that I have are the 7:30 pm and 7:45 pm PDT kickoffs. Those games suck. NOBODY watches those games past half-time except fans of the schools.
It's a complicated issue, but I think a lot of has to do with society today. West coast is more Liberal. You have faculty and administrations at many Pac 12 programs that despise sports, and football in particular. I can assure you a majority of the Profs at Stanford and Cal don't give a damn about the football program. There were a group of Profs at WSU that wanted Leach fired for his introduction of Trump in Spokane. Now I don't care for Trump, but I don't get down on people for supporting him, it was that or Hilary, I don't vote so I don't give a damn, but suggesting someone be fired for supporting someone you don't is not a good reason. Do you think the SEC has Profs that don't support sports, sure a few, but not many, Many Profs at most Pac 12 schools are envious of all they money put into the football program, it is very narrow minded on their part as the football program benefits enrollment, and does more for money coming into their school than they will ever realize. It starts with the Presidents and Chancellors, they have to let everyone know they are committed to sports programs and it will benefit everyone at the university.
Then there is scheduling 9 vs 8 conference games, the Championship committee needs to come out with rules on scheduling to equal the playing field for all teams, it is not just a pac 12 issue. More interconference games with power 5 teams, home, and home, the SEC needs to Travel out west.
The list goes on an on, I don't like Larry Scott, but it's not all his fault, however if he isn't in full support of an 8 team playoff, he should be fired.
Good points.
But remember, the Pac-12 excels in women's sports and numerous minor sports about which no one gives a damn ...so we can all boast about that!

That's what 95Coug said, but in fewer words: much of this is on Larry Scott.I think there is more to it. I think the other schools do a better job recruiting. I think they do a better job taking care of people. I think the $ they throw at football has tipped the scale.

At some point, the pendulum will swing back.
This is the same thing that happened back in the 80's/90's when the Big East started televising all their basketball games and became a beast. Cali kids headed to Syracuse and back east.
Eventually, the tide turned and the Pac-10/12 started keeping the stars at home like the O'Bannons, won a couple titles with UCLA and Arizona...which then begat the Howland, Bennett, Floyd era in the conference. It's all cyclical.
The conference is getting better, more visible coaches in football - like Petersen, Leach and Kelly and even Sherm. If USC ever pulls their head out and hires a decent coach, it will be the same thing.
University presidents have big egos. They don't like getting mocked by their peers at anything. RIght now the SEC presidents are mocking their Pac-12 intellectual counterparts. Big time.
Oregon ranked number 5 in the Nation for this cycle of football recruiting Also Washington had a top rated recruiting class anchored by 4 four stars and a top rated DT from Hawaii. It is an impressive haul for the mutts
There is no PAC 12 president that looks at the SEC and cares what they think. Im willing to wager they snub their nose at the academics of all of those schools but 1.
Go check the US News & World Report rankings - aside from Stanford, USC, Cal, the SEC is pretty much on par with the Pac-12 - some higher, some lower.
UW ranks #59.
Florida and Georgia higher than that - Missouri and Texas A&M right about there, too. Then the SEC has a tier of schools down in the 130's just like the Pac 12 has OSU and WSU.
It's not like Utah is the Harvard of the West or ASU is going to rival Princeton.
In general, both conferences are state-supported schools that are regarded as pretty good academically -but take Stanford and Cal out of the mix...pretty much the same as anything in the SEC, Big 12 or ACC.
You’re forgetting UCLA in the mix.
I guess it depends on who is doing the rating. 247 Sports rates Oregon as having the 5th rated recruiting class But meh people will see what they want to see.I love to see the hilarity by some posters.
