This is a pretty ridiculous comparison. Go review UConn's football and conference history. They came from the Yankee and Atlantic-10 conferences to a short tenure in the Big Least, and were never a football school.
Losing $8 million on Football pretty much says it all.
If D-1 football ever goes to a super conference(s) of 64 teams in 4 leagues, then WSU and several other smaller programs in the Power 5 could be at risk. If I count correctly there are 64 teams in the Power 5 now, plus ND. So one team nationally would have to go. I like our chances in that scenario.
Wasnt talking about football. And yes I did know that Uconn came from the Atlantic 10(Just so you know, the Atlantic 10 was probably the best group of 5, Mid Major BASKETBALL conference and might even have occasionally been better then occasionally even 1 of the Power 6 conferences back in the day), and transfered, became part of the Big East, tho I didnt know they came from Yankee conference, and never heard of Yankee conference.
The Big East was only the Big Least in Football. In basketball the Big East was tied with the ACC as the best 2 conferences in basketball.
Uconn was in fact a BASKETBALL SEMI BLUE BLOOD BASKETBALL PROGRAM LIKE:
Indiana, Syracuse, Wake Forest, Depaul, Louisville, Memphis, Marquette, Xavier, Seton Hall, Michigan, Michigan St, Missouri, Pitt, Vtech, Virginia, Florida, Florida St, Arizona, Tennessee(Womens, and sometimes men as well), Clemson, Texas, Oklahoma, Gonzaga, etc.
I leave off teams like UCLA, Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, North Carolina, because they are Blueblood badketball programs, instead of SEMI blue blood ish basketball program like the ones listed, Uconn.
And like I said, Uconn has gone to LOTS of NCAA Tourneys, lots of sweet 16's, some, lots of Elite 8's, a few, some final fours, a few final 2's, a couple, few championships.
And thats in both Men, and Womens Basketball.
In womens basketball, the only team as good as Uconn was, was, has been Tennessee.
Tennessee, and Uconn were usually the top 2 to beat, on the womens basketball side.
So not talking about football, in regards to Uconn.
Was talking about basketball.
And for such a rich, storied, traditioned, semi blue blood basketball program that Uconn was to fall to FCS, is a MIGHTY FALL.
That would be like if DUKE were to fall to FCS, that would also be a mighty fall, just like Uconn is a mighty fall.
