Hot off the press -Thoughts

Yahoo was the original report, and CBS is picking it up from them. So is the Athletic. Ross Dillinger and Wilner seem to be the only two original articles, but it’s starting to go wider. Announcement as soon as tomorrow, apparently.

I don’t see this as a move to join. The Big 12 or ACC. This is preserving the Pac. What I see is positioning to provide a soft landing place for Stanford & Cal if the ACC comes apart. If that doesn’t happen, or doesn’t happen in time, it’ll be easier to pull UNLV and someone else from the reduced MWC.

All those sources are pretty credible

Pac-12 expansion: 4 schools poised to join as WSU, OSU rebuild conference

The Pac-12, currently consisting of two teams, is on the brink of expansion that will provide a more stable future for Washington State and Oregon State and devastate its conference neighbor at the same time.

Four schools from the Mountain West — Boise State, Fresno State, San Diego State and Colorado State — are expected to announce as early as Thursday morning their plans to join the Pac-12 on July 1, 2026, sources told the Hotline.

Those four, along with Washington State and Oregon State, would then decide on additional expansion, according to a source.

The Pac-12 must have at least eight members by the summer of 2026 in order to comply with NCAA rules.

The six schools could add two more from the Mountain West or seek members from other conferences in order to expand the footprint and increase the number of TV windows for football games.

The move will be devastating for the MW schools left behind — a group that could include San Jose State, Hawaii, Utah State, Nevada and others.

What would remain of the conference would have “zero TV value,” as a source indicated.

The thunderous development comes after the Mountain West and Pac-12 failed to agree to extend their football scheduling partnership for the 2025 season.

The move will be costly for the Pac-12 and the MW schools involved.

According to the terms of the scheduling agreement, there is a so-called poaching penalty of approximately $10 million for every school that leaves the MW for the Pac-12.

But the Pac-12 has cash available.

As part of their settlement with the 10 departed schools, Washington State and Oregon State are withholding a total of $65 million in campus distributions. That cash could be used to pay all, or a portion of, the poaching penalty.

Additionally, the Cougars and Beavers have more than $150 million in assets at their disposal (over the course of several years) from the Pac-12’s postseason football and basketball contracts.

“There will be some of those funds set aside that, as different scenarios emerge, we do have some resources available to us for our strategic priorities moving forward and whatever we might need to do to support our conference affiliation strategy,” Pac-12 commissioner Teresa Gould said recently on ‘Canzano and Wilner: The Podcast.’

In addition, schools that leave the MW are likely to owe a departure penalty of approximately $20 million.

However, several of the top football schools in the MW have been anxious to generate more media rights revenue. Breaking away from the lower-echelon schools was viewed as a means to that end.

Any TV deal for a conference consisting of WSU, OSU and the top football brands in the MW would have more value than a deal for the current MW.

“It’s no secret that Boise State and San Diego State want out (of the Mountain West),” a source said.

Yahoo was the first to report the news.

My thoughts?

Its funny that in the same 24 hours there are serious sounding articles that say we’re probably headed to the Big 12 now that UConn isn’t, that we’re rooting for ACC chaos to give us inroads there, and that we’re poaching MWC teams to rebuild the Pac. Of course none of the articles have the slightest evidence and none point to any verifiable sources.

The MWC within the last few days still seemed pretty unified and not terribly interested in merger talk…although things happen fast in CFB now, and money talks. Still, I’ll believe it when I see it.

Appears that Wilner posted a similar story 10 minutes ago, although I can’t read it. That gives it slightly more credence in my mind, although not much of his speculation has really been on target either. Plus, his headline only says 4 MWC teams, so the fractures in the rumor may already be appearing.

Either way, poaching 4-5 MWC teams still leaves us 1-2 short of the requirement for a conference, so can’t be the whole story.

I’m going to lose my mind if it’s Tulane and Memphis.

Yahoo sports and Wilner, etc, saying, reporting the same thing from the same sources, is pretty credible, etc.

Also remember that the PAC 12 seemed pretty unified between everyone, Kliatkoff, except USC, UCLA, that already leaving, etc, at the time.

MWC programs are probably not going to publicly come out against Gloria. Gloria could, can say whatever she wants, make it seem that they are unified, etc, but Gloria saying that does not automatically make it so, and doesn't stop MWC programs like BSU, SDSU, Fresno St, CSU from crossing their fingers behind their backs, and behind Gloria's back, and nodding, and not volunteering the truth that not unified, that planning to join PAC.

When, if this happens, Gloria only has herself to blame, for playing hardball with PAC 2/12. If she had played her cards right, and had not played such hardball, and had either tried to reverse merge the top 9, into PAC by dissolving MWC, then top 9 join PAC, leave bottom 3 behind, or if she had worked out a settlement, path, etc, agreement for the top 3,4,5 MWC to join PAC, and provide compensation to MWC, and provide time, money, path to rebuild MWC, etc, then it wouldn't have been so hard on Gloria, MWC, BSU, SDSU, Fresno St, CSU, WSU, OSU, PAC/12/8, etc.

New Debate thread?

Oh sorry - Reuters interviewed 10 people. Well that calls the election. Maybe they should now poll 10 million Swifties.

And I don't believe you. What was your degree from WSU? Sure as shit wasn't English. It's board, not bored. Not the first time you have misspelled this.
When loyal is spellchecking you after cocktail hour, you probably didn’t make it beyond CC.

Whoa, how about, imagine that, me, others have been mostly to almost all the way right all along, and the lots of various sources, that me, others have used, that not ESPN, FOX, etc, have been mostly to almost all the way right all along, just like those type of sources were right about the PAC 12 falling apart.

But Yahoo sports isn't credible Loyal, or is it Loyal, is it time for you to maybe have some crow to eat?

Only thing I don't understand, get, is why the PAC 2/12 is targeting CSU, over, instead of UNLV. Did UNLV say no? Will UNLV be one of the 2 open slots to join PAC. If PAC doesn't get UNLV, either instead of CSU, or in addition to BSU, Fresno, SDSU, CSU, I think that's a Big mistake, since UNLV has started having pretty good football, started getting more attendance, TV eyeballs, started investing more, started increasing in value, and because of Vegas Bowl, and because of Vegas, UNLV stadium, etc, would be a great place for PAC office, football championship game if they have one, and for conference basketball tournament, and because UNLV is pretty good in basketball, etc.

I think candidates for the last 2 spots would be UNLV, Airforce, Utah St, Memphis, Tulane, UTSA, Liberty(12-0), North Texas, NDSU.

I think this is the right move, and it probably only going to cost about 100 mil, which will probably be replaced by the new PAC 8 media deal, increased CFP money, Bowl Money, NCAA future tourny units, PAC 8 enterprises, etc, in a small handful of years.

And Yahoo News probably accurately says that the BSU, Fresno St, SDSU, CSU, WSU, OSU, PAC 8 that the PAC 8 probably get semi automatic conference champ semi automatic, semi guaranteed CFP spot(Assuming PAC 8 Champ goes at least 9-3, 10-2

And Yahoo probably accurately, correctly points out that the PAC 8 media deal will probably be a semi lot, substantially more then the 5 mil MWC gets now, and a semi lot, substantially more then the MWC would get in future with BSU, Fresno St, SDSU, CSU, etc, so considering that MWC would get about 8,9,10,11,12 mil media deal with BSU, SDSU, Fresno St, CSU, then the about 16 to 22 mil extrapolation, was, is pretty accurate for a BSU, SDSU, Fresno St, CSU, PAC 8 after all.

Sagarin rankings UW (33) vs. Cougs (35)...

We "had" to be nice and do a neutral game because UW needed "help" scheduling due to their conference move. Instead of telling them to pound sand and figure it out, the WSU admin decided to help because....?

So yeah, same question you have.
To keep it short. Pat. Chun. Y’all can thank him at the stadium on Saturday by telling him he’s number one.

Yahoo and CBS are now reporting it. Makes sense to me. You skim from the top and form a best of the rest alliance. Now you can offer yourselves to the ACC and B12 as their West coast pod, and if you don’t get any takers, you merge with the best remaining ACC left overs and top AAC programs. At worst, you have the best G5 conference in the Nation.

A VERY Powerful Testimony

You realize of course that the vast majority of border crossings (legal and illegal) occur at US Ports of Entry. Is it a f-ed up mess? Yes. Would more walls in certain locations be a good thing? Sure.

This comprehensive article is pretty good informative. And while it doesn't set out to do so, it completely dismisses you BFF Trump's claims of 20 million immigrants illegally crossing our border under Biden. When you get done reading redstate.com and The Federalist, perhaps you should give it a look-see. BTW, the Annenberg Public Policy Center is non-partisan.

Ok, I read that linked article. It says that there has been 6.5 mil that have tried to cross illegally into USA this year, and that 2.5 mil of those 6.5 mil have been released into USA, and that 1.6 mil of those 6.5 mil were got aways into USA, and that 2.5 mil released + 1.6 mil got ways into USA mean that there has been about 4.1, 4.2 mil out of 6.5 mil that in USA, who knows where, and that the USA, judicial system, courts, etc, are trusting the 2.5 mil to show up in USA courts, and not try to run, hide, not try to not show up in USA courts, etc.

Yes the Repubs are technically wrong, accidentally using the total number over years, slightly exaggerating the numbers, etc. And yes the Repubs don't need to do that, and shouldn't do that, as the that link acknowledges that this is still a shitty problem, that has grown shittier, worse under Biden, then any other USA president in USA history.

And so what in a way if the Repubs are slightly wrong about the numbers, and that problem is only slightly less shitty, then how really extremely shitty the problem is now, etc.

And the Repubs are right in blaming this extremely shitty problem on Biden, his Border policies, or lack of border policies, lack of border control, enforcement, etc.

And there is a lack of border control, enforcement, because of 2.5 mil released into USA, naively thinking that the 2.5 mil will just show up in court instead of going into hiding, etc, and because of 1.6 mil gotaways into USA, and because the link said that USA only deals with about 57% of the 6.5 mil that crossed illegally this year, and because 6.5 mil crossed illegally this year.

The problem is worse then it's ever been in past, and it's getting worse, and if, when, if continues, at some point in semi near future, it probably will get to about 8 mil to 20 mil in future, especially if, when, DEMOTARDS, like Bidentard, continue to make the problem worse.

Bingo....Build a chips plant in Honduras and take away from China ...

That's a great idea, except both Demotards, Repubtards, and USA governmentards won't actually do something like that because they think that that would alienate China, and that that would raise tarifs against USA, from China, and make it so that China stopped buying things like Wheat, etc, from USA like they currently buy wheat from USA, etc, and that China would stop selling China chips, batteries, electronics, TV, stereo, DVD player's, electronic entertainment devices, cars, etc, to the USA, and that that the USA people would have to go without those things, because the USA does not buy those things from other countries, and does not manufacture a lot of those things, an or has limited manufacturing of those things, and that that would hurt the USA economy, and cause inflation to rise more, and cause a economic depression, etc.

And they are partially right and partially wrong about some to most of those things.

Certainly doing your idea would be very risky ED. And certainly the USA should, would, could, etc, wait until if USA has a Bill Clinton esque, Trump esque, awesome economy before doing some like that ED. Now is probably not a good time for that idea ED. Save that idea for later ED.

New Debate thread?

Loyal in another tizzy.

Because I graduated from WSU, I’m smart enough to realize it was “Right-Wing”-Reuters who conducted the focus exercise.

I linked the feed from Breitbart knowing lazy or poor readers ( I don’t judge) would jump to false conclusions and ignore the point of the NEWS provided by Reuter's, via X (the newsstand on the corner) and instead launch character attacks on… me.

You should start another political thread on a basketball bored, loyal.

loyal, who started the political threads you’re crying about now?

I was one of the first to acknowledge Kamala won the debate.

Why so angry?
I'm not angry at all. I'm happy as can be. This 9/11 "thread" has nothing to do with anything current or Coug.

I do grow weary of the fact that every single thing you and Stretch post and refer to and link comes from right-wing sources (aka liars). And most of your shit is just stupid "X" crap. Like your latest from Breitbart. If you want discourse, good. But your endless mind-numbing shit has gotten pretty old. Yet here I am, moth to flame...... :(
