Spam update

Well the Mighty and Benevolent Loyal One got ahold of Rivals and they are working to fix our Spam problem (note the lack of recent spam). In my magnanimous fashion, I will keep you all posted.

So you are all welcome. BTW, this site is going to have some oversight going forward. As such, I kindly suggest that you all start refraining from insults and personal attacks. And possibly consider a more collegial atmosphere in general.

So, realignment

There have been a couple of recent articles (NY Times, Salt Lake Tribune) about waining interest in a Pac-2/Mtn West merger, but they are behind paywalls. Link below is the one "free" article I found. Looks pretty bleak to me. What I envision now is the Pac-2 futzing around waiting for the never-to-happen phone call from the Big-12 or ACC, then having to beg the Mtn West to take us in on July 1, 2026, thus losing about $30M in future NCAA BB allocations. Which we would lose anyway if we went somewhere else.

OT - 20 worst car engines

Hah hah. Fortunately the All-Knowing Loyal One had none of these engines. Hail the trusty Chevy 350 (aka 5.7 liter) and the non-turbo Subaru 2.5 liter. 180K and 217K and never a problem with either. Helped along by the superior Pennzoil oil.

Although with only 2 entries, Ford is woefully overlooked in this list. They should pretty much have dominated. I'm still not sure if the "F" in the F series trucks stands for Fail, Falter, Frail, Flop, Fool (buyer) or several other handy F words. :) :)

Edit - this list is more like it, except that the first entry is complete horseshit. The Silverado rocks. Most mentioned of all trucks in country songs, especially by Morgan Wallen. Just waxed up my 28-year-old fire engine red beauty, and the whistles from chicks of all ages could be heard down the streets. Although since my head was hanging out the window maybe they were whistling at more than the truck.

2024 WSU Preview

See link below:

Not much to argue about here. It does have us losing 4 of our first 6 games (TT, uw, BSU and FSU), which is no surprise. I'm a bit more optimistic.

Cougs could really wreak havoc on the MW teams' CFP aspirations. BSU is predicted to win the league. However, they have to play us, Oregon State, and at Oregon.

Semi-related, along with reports that MW interest in the Pac-2 (especially in a reverse merger scenario) is waning, UNLV and SDSU fans seem to think they are desirable candidates to get invites the Big-12. Population bases a major factor, although eyeballs on TV's don't match up at all. Don't care what donkey fans think. So it would be nice to smack both BSU and SDSU around. But does wreaking carnage on our MW schedule make us more or less desirable to the MW?

R.I.P. to a very funny guy

Sadly I just saw that the Button Down Guy, Bob Newhart, has passed away. His comedy was pretty off the wall, classic, and generally non-offensive. I still have a couple record albums of his.

Check out this visit of Bob on the Tonight Show with Carson. At least get through about the first 6 minutes as he talks about being 1/4 German and uses the accent to talk about Volkswagons. I laugh over and over at that part!

On topic - Beer article

This is kind of a funny one. Worth 5 minutes of your life if you are a Coug. A few observations:

First of all, ranking my beer of choice, Coors Light, on this list at all, let alone 1st, is complete BS. It says Coors Light tastes terrible. Actually, it has no taste, that's why I like it! Plus the blue mountains are cool. I typically drink 16 ouncers, but bought some 12oz'ers last week. Instead of the blue mountains, they have these blue stripes cascading horizontally down the can. I guess to make sure you are drinking it fast enough so they don't get warm? Pretty innovative IMHO.

Agree on Heineken. It is skunk beer.
Kirkland Light? There really is such a beer? I don't shop at Costco. Never have had a card.
PBR - no argument on this one. Ahhh the younger days....
Bud Light - ditto. I actually like Bud (also on the list). But Bud Light is also skunk beer.
Pacifico? I like Pacifico. And Sol. They both remind me of Coors Light. I'm known to also drink Corona, which is skunk beer. But not on this list.
Miller High Life - always thought the clear bottles were weird.
Keystone Premium? Is that regular Keystone? I used to drink a ton of Keystone Light, then realized A) Life is too short, and B) My hangovers went away when I upgraded to Coors Light.
National Bohemian. Is that the same as the Bohemian I used to drink when I was about 19? $4.12 for a case of 11oz bottles. Funny how that price has stuck in my mind. And it was skunky shit.
Schlitz. Barf.
Guiness. Sorry, I don't drink anything that looks like used motor oil. What does that look like coming back up?

Obvious Omissions - Old Milwaukee, Old English 800, Rainier, Olympia. Mickey's Wide Mouth's. There are others. I did sort of like animal beer. Schmidt? The brew that grew with the great Northwest?

Busy summer has Pac-2, MWC comissioners playing phone tag

Gloria Navarraz, the MWC commissioner sounds upbeat about some sort of complete merger going into effect.

“I’m pretty confident," she said. “You never know with how contracting goes. It was built in anticipation as a two-year schedule. Because that’s how you mitigate competitive inequities, and we figure if we’re going to do it, it’s easier to do two. It’s not for any reason except for we had to get through June meetings, then July gets kind of quiet. (Pac-12 commissioner Teresa Gould) and I have been talking, and it’s just been a phone tag thing.”

Big picture, Oregon State and Washington State want to buy as much time as possible and see what happens elsewhere — perhaps, say, if Florida State and Clemson try to officially leave the ACC, that league might explore getting back to 17 members.

Oregon State athletic director Scott Barnes told The Athletic earlier this year that joining a Power 4 conference is the top priority, followed by some merger with the Mountain West (Gotta figure AD McCoy is working side-by-side with Mr. Barnes as the Pac-2 orchestrate a package deal to one of the power conferences.

Nothing says “saving our democracy “ better than having an intern release a letter written by Coup attorneys, *not* on White House letterhead, carries a forged (allegedly) digital signature and released on Twitter.

We’ve all watched Biden stumble and bumble for three years now but with that debate performance, team Biden could no longer hide it.

Now? Looks like an internal coup has taken place.

“Where’s Joe?”

So - FB practice starts July 31

In case anyone cares, FB season is fast approaching. Mateer had a nice article on Brand X. He's listed as 6'1" and 217, but he look bigger to me. The QB competition will be crucial - but I am all-in on Mateer, feel kinda sorry for Gage Gubrud oops I mean Eckhaus. Didn't agree with bringing a Senior transfer in, hope for his sake he gets some snaps.

Schedule is tougher the more I look at it. the mutts in game 2 will of course be hard, Texas Tech us huge IMHO. Then starting Sept 28 we have BSU, FSU and SDSU in 3 of 4 weeks, all away. We'll come out of that either looking like the cream of the MW or chopped liver.

I think we will surprise everyone, which of course is an every year thing when we are good because we are always projected to suck.

Mountain West doesn't want us

Oh the drunk cute gal will be waiting at the bar for us. Uh huh.

And Teresa Gould is officially an idiot. "If and when and if those conversations EVER take place?" So there has been NO conversation with the Mtn West? WTF. We are F-ed.

"I don't know if the Mountain West thinks they need these two schools, honestly," Gould said. "I would imagine If and when those conversations ever take place it's going to be based in part on the economics of the decision and what they bring to the table."
