# 11 Lady COUGS win....

No. 11 Washington State volleyball defeats No. 18 Baylor

Seattle Times staffSep. 13, 2023 at 8:48 pm
Karly Basham and Julia Norville combined for 30 digs on the back row as the No. 11 Washington State volleyball team picked up its eighth consecutive win Wednesday and second straight victory over a Top 25 team, 3-1, at 18th-ranked Baylor.

Game scores were 19-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-21. The Cougars (9-1) racked up 11 blocks as a team and limited the Bears (4-4) to an attack percentage of just .168. The win was the first road win for Washington State in Waco and avenged a 2021 NCAA tournament defeat in the Ferrell Center.

Pia Timmer (13 kills, 48 assists) and Iman Isanovic (16 kills, 34 assists) continued to lead the way offensively for WSU, and Magda Jehlárová tallied a match-high eight block assists.

Norville’s 15 digs fell just two shy of tying her career-high as she and Basham also collected a perfect 28 of 28 serves that went their direction on the Cougars’ back row.

The Cougars will play in Austin on Friday against defending national champion and sixth-ranked Texas at 5 p.m. Pacific time.

Why not keep negotiating a new GOR deal?

If the 10 current member schools of the P12 are claiming that they haven't given "official notice" of their departure, why don't we continue negotiating with Apple, ESPN, etc. on a new deal?

We have 8 teams ranked in the top-25, and Colorado and Coach Prime are the hottest thing in college football right now. Wouldn't it be hysterical if Apple came back to the table with an offer of $40M/school just to see/hear how the other P10 schools would respond?

DT Sheffield

...has left the program, according to Dickert.

Interesting, as during the game he ran the wrong route that 6 points for (I believe) Kyle Williams hit in stride and Williams lit into him after. Appreciated seeing teammates get on each other to be better. Won't speculate as I haven't been really following things as close. Hope things are well for him.

This language might have USC and UCLA wetting their pants right now

This is from the complaint for injunction relief. I not a transactions attorney, in fact, I practice exclusively in an unrelated tiny area of the law, so I'm no expert, but when I read this, I kinda spewed my cup of coffee, thinking that we may be going after USC/UCLA next.

"In June 2022, the University of Southern California (“USC”) and the University of California, Los Angeles (“UCLA”) announced that they would leave the Pac-12, effective August 2024, at the conclusion of its existing media rights deals with ESPN and Fox, to join the competing Big Ten Conference. Those announcements violated the Pac-12’s Constitution and Bylaws (“Bylaws”), which state that “[n]o member shall deliver a notice of withdrawal to the Conference in the period beginning on July 24, 2011, and ending on August 1, 2024[.]” This prohibition recognizes the substantial and irreparable harm that an early notice of withdrawal causes to the Conference, including to its ability to retain other members and to negotiate future media rights deals, which generate significant revenue for the member schools and support the Conference’s mission."

Doesn't this set out a colorable claim that USC/UCLA are the proximate cause of all the damage we have and will suffer as a result of the break up and were in breach? Is this why we retain Wall Street counsel? Thoughts anyone, but particularly from attorneys out there with some business/transactions experience.

Go Cougs!

Afraid to ask, but...

What exactly are we supposed to be running on offense? Because it looks like the same ol' shit we've seen last year - Ward bails on pockets way too early, gives up on his progressions and baits the defense into committing to the pass and then takes off. I imagine he fancies himself to be Lamar Jackson-esque from the way he plays.

Don't get me wrong, I'm always glad for the win but all its going to take is a defense who can play man to do so and put a spy on Ward and the offense is toast.

Am I being too critical?

Mel Tucker

I remember this but didn’t know to what were the full details when it happened at Oregon state.

Despite the bad news we have had to endure, I am really pumped for this season...

A few comments...

1. I think Dickert is a good coach. I don't know if he is good enough to overcome talent differences we will face, but he's above average (and perhaps a very good coach).

2. I'll forgive him (barely) for that epic Apple Cup disaster on defense last year. It's hard to fathom that collapse, but I'll overlook that for now. It was ridiculous to allow >700 yards by the dogs. I don't care how explosive their offense was.

3. I like how he communicates. No excuses. Very process oriented. Very focused on the controllable aspects of this seson. Those are good leadership traits.

4. We cannot lose to CSU today. That will be a bad sign. We should beat them by at least the spread. We'll see how our offensive line and linebackers perform. That is the key to me for having a good season. I'm not particularly worried about the other positions.

5. The Pac12 is going to be the best it has been for years. This is very frustrating and ironic as it highlights the inept leadership and vision the member schools have had for years. The academic types leading the schools deep down resent the football programs and it has shown. I agree that it has gotten completely out of hand, but either cut it off or aggressively work to make it grow. They (the university leadership) just handed it over to inept and passive conference "leaders" to die off. It was like the old saying..."how did you go bankrupt? First slowly, then suddenly."

6. Looking forward to seeing our new offense under Arbuckle and a better Cam Ward. Much better, I believe.

7. There are so many Pac12 and other games I'm looking forward to watching this season. Even if we are in a bad place for the future of our program.

Northern Colorado

I’ve long assumed that N.Colorado would be a tune up game, but I just looked at their performance this season. Now I’m wondering if we’ll see Mateer before halftime and have walk-ons playing before it’s over.

They’re sitting at 0-2, with losses to Abilene Christian and Incarnate Word. Big losses - 31-11 and 42-7. They have 2 TDs on the season, both scored in the later half of the 4th quarter in games that were decided.

They have 274 yards passing in 2 games. 177 rushing. They gave up over 600 yards to UIW (382 passing).

We expected they would not be good. But “bad” doesn’t seem like the right word either. Looks like they’re truly awful.

You still have to game prep as normal, but this is the game that you remind the 2nd & 3rd teamers to remember their chin straps.
