New Commit

Well i must say that i am underwhelmed by the new guy. Just woke up and saw the news. From what i remember, this guy is not a world beater based on the videos i saw. I guess the "pruf is in da pudding" We shall see if he is better than projected. There is always the rumor that 4 PAC 12 schools and Gonzaga were interested. We shall see if Kent and company are sniffing out the hidden nuggets or just getting their asses beat on the recruiting trail

Rex Pflueger

WSU who has been on Rex since his Freshman year (yeah I know EL -- that old staff) will have the final on-campus visit from Rex coming up soon. Coach Ernie Kent was down for a visit this morning.

The 2015 SG would be a nice get for the entire staff (including the guy who has been on him for many years of course).

Basketball news?

Any news from the coug camp? Recruiting seems to be slow. I wonder how the new guys are looking as they start to prepare for the season .It would help if Dunbar and Cheatum claim starting positions.Perhaps the fan favorite,The Hawk, has made himself into a D 1 player?. James Donaldson did by sheer will, a weight lifting regimen and hard workouts. The point guard position and the interior play is where the cougs must show the most improvement this season One wonders if Railey will ever fullfill the promise he showed when he was young. I believe that the team may be better than most people think. As football flounders,my attention wanders more to basketball

OSU's Tinkle getting a good haul of recruits

I have to hand it to OSU's new coach.....no surprise that he got a verbal from his son Tres, a top 50 in the nation recruit. But he also picked up 4-star shooting guard Stephen Thompson Jr. (son of an assistant OSU coach) and 3-star point guard Derrick Bruce, to go along with big man Drew Eubanks. That's a nice group of freshmen next year coming into that program and I can't help but think that Tinkle is a much better bench coach than Craig Robinson was. Beavers probably made a good hire.

Glad Cougar

Recruiting?

There have not been any announcements on recruiting. One wonders who the next commit will be. Perhaps a Matt Neufeld? or Roman Davis? These are under the radar guys who seem to have D 1 talent and have not committed anywhere. It seems like Kent will have to get these types of guys his first two years.I would guess that Pfluger will go to Notre Dame? Perhaps there are a few recruitable jucos who can make an instant impact. The biggest needs are swing forwards and big people. Anyone have any insights into the current recruiting situation or visits set up? This is the time to be setting up visits for recruits but all seems silent.

Kent announces signing of Valentine Izundu...

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Valentine Izundu (Ih-ZOON-Doo) (6-10, 215, Center, Houston, Texas/Lamar Consolidated High School/Houston) has signed a Financial Aid Agreement (FAA) to play for the Washington State University men's basketball team beginning with the 2014-15 season, head coach Ernie Kent announced Friday.

"We're very fortunate to get a player of Valentine's caliber so late in the summer," Kent said. "He has great athleticism and the potential to become one of the premier shot blockers in the country. Valentine will benefit from the year he will sit out due to NCAA transfer rules, as it gives him the opportunity to continue to develop his game."

Izundu comes to WSU from the University of Houston where he played his freshman and sophomore seasons in 2012-13 and 2013-14, respectively. At Houston, Izundu played in 20 games as a freshman in 2012-13 and four as a sophomore last season. As a freshman, Izundu finished with 22 blocks, the seventh-highest single-season total in Houston history. He blocked a career-high 4 shots in his collegiate debut at San Jose State, Nov. 13, 2012, adding 4 rebounds and 2 points. He scored a career-high 9 points against Chicago State, Dec. 22, and averaged 2.0 points and 1.1 blocks per game in 8.0 minutes an outing during his rookie season.

"I chose WSU because I really like Coach Kent and his 'run and gun' style of play he's brought to Washington State," Izundu said. "He's a great guy and a proven winner as a coach. I also really like the facilities at WSU and the tight-knit college community."

Prior to attending Houston, Izundu competed for head coach Luke Lucky at Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg, Texas where he helped lead his team to a 27-9 record and 13-1 mark in league play as a senior. Prior to LCHS he attended Cypress Lakes High School in Katy, Texas, for three years.

Izundu joins a signing class that includes incoming freshmen Jackie Davis (6-3, 195, G, Long Beach, Calif./Rolling Hills Prep School), Trevor Dunbar (5-10, 170, Guard, San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius College Preparatory) and Nyaires (Ny-air-ees) 'Ny' Redding (6-2, 180, Guard, Solon, Ohio/Westwind Prep-Ariz.), as well as junior college-transfer Aaron Cheatum (6-7, 240, F, Moreno Valley, Calif./East Los Angeles College).
