falk was stinking up the joint; no position is safe, bust your ass or ride the bench.

Despite all the pub ,i think that Hilinski is the better QB.Rag on but Falk comes up short in big games .
Not to mention how many times he's wobbled off the field after bobbleheading the turf. I'm thankful for everything he's contributed to WSU and he will be a Coug Great, but I fear for his health and future. He is just a concussion magnet and it's not worth the risk.

Something about Tyler gives you the peace, confidence, and assurance he'll get it done.

We used to say that about Falk. I do wonder if the repeated concussions are causing issues because he certainly regressed late last season and he has been uninspiring so far this year. I think Leach gives him the start this week but I wouldn't bet against seeing Hilinski again.

Falk won games against Rutgers, Oregon and UCLA his first year as a starter. But memories are conveniently short when you want Halliday 2.0 under center.
I won't forget or discount what Falk has done, but he's not doing it now...at least not against decent defenses.

Bledsoe in his first few appearances. Leaf, the same. Ryp, the same. Too excitable, tried to do too much. Learned to slow the game a bit and think more clearly. Hilinski needs to follow the same path. I think he will accomplish that.

By the way, Brink and Gesser not so much. Those two seemed to be thinking from the moment they took their first snap. And Thompson? For my money, he was the coolest under fire of the whole group, from his very first first series on the field. Of course, only Leaf could compare with him physically, in terms of being able to take a hit and not go down...so that probably helped somewhat.

My point is that Hilinski has a ways to go and further mental development to be accomplished, but he is on track and I like his development to this point.

Thank you. We are not talking about one game we are talking about a trend. You kinda have to throw MSU out at this point. Falk was awful against his last three opponents with a pulse...I'll leave Colorado out because his receivers had the droppsies and that would have been a good game for him if not.

And I don't want to hear about Craycraft or Marks. Guys graduate, other good players come in. Your QB has to help the new guys be great. Mayfield certainly didn't miss Dede Westbrook last night.

I think Hillinski is more in tune with the entire receiving core and has the willingness to make the longer throw down field. You can beat Montana State being two dimensional, but not the better teams like Boise State. Why can't they put another O-lineman in on 3rd and 18 inches?

Or how bout the 225 pound running back that is supposed to be the short yardage specialist.

What has happened to Falk? A bad game or two isn't unexpected. But 5 straight games of what can best be described as "game management" mode, is puzzling. We don't have the talent to win with a "risk adverse" QB. We need a "gun slinger." Falk has taken too many head shots, no doubt, but being punch drunk doesn't make you hesitate to pull the trigger. Unless he regains the attitude that INTs happen, but I make far more great plays than bad, we are screwed.

Actually, I think being slow to pull the trigger is exactly what I would expect from cumulative head injuries.

Or Hercules coming in at Fullback (kidding of course, you wouldn't

yeah that's what I'm worried about with the kid. Head injuries are no joke. My guess is if he's been bouncing his head on the ground like this for the last 2+ years, it's been going on since he first put on shoulder pads. I pray I am wrong but its definitely concerning how slow he seems to be processing things.

This has always been Falk's problem aka Jeff Tuel syndrome.

Holds the ball too long, too afraid to make a mistake. Wants to be absolutely perfect.

I don't know why people think this is a new occurrence. He's a great QB, Tuel was good too, but he had ZERO offensive line and was running for his life when combined with that hesitation.

Falk puts himself in Jeopardy because of his passivity, he's a great Leader and a perfectionist.

But sometimes you just have to go out there and PLAY. Don't worry about being perfect, worry about not being absolutely stupid, but make things happen.

Hillinski is young, made some young guy mistakes, but he has a fearlessness that allows him to create some opportunities, and that was enough to open things up.

We're blessed with coaches and talent that can play, when they are on we can win. Falk needs to have that sense of urgency that he turns on when we are down that allowed him to make all those comebacks all the time.

Hillinski needs to mature and not be as reckless.

Either way, we have great players, they just have to overcome and develop past their flaws.

Holding the ball for too long has always been the knock on Falk and he doesn't have a Bledsoe cannon to get away with it. Falk just doesn't seem too often to see where the open receiver is going to be. I am hoping some heat behind him in Hilinski will force Falk to believe what he is seeing and let it rip. The hits are definitely piling up and that doesn't get better over time and can become a life altering.

If Hillinski can learn to recognize when to call the run, he could be very good. Our backs need to be involved. If not get ready for a one dimensional Holliday type offense.

Agree that Hilinski was avoiding the run, but under the circumstances, I can understand it. Let's hope that is not a trend, however.

Yeah - down by 21 with 8 minutes left is probably not the time to establish the run.

That said, the running game was non existent the entire game. That has to change.

We used to have a 3 back inverse wishbone look that we'd pull out a couple times a game. I haven't seen it in about a season and a half. It's absence was notable last night.
Correct me if I am wrong but that formation seemed to be reasonably successful. Also the under center QB formation. That could have been used during those two short distance and goal situations.

i do recall that three-back formation being successful on the goal line last year, but the truth is, the normal one and two-back formations have been successful there too in the past. i think the oline just had a shitty night run blocking across the board.

edit to add: i also agree that it was really weird that williams was in there so much at the goal line. that doesn't make sense at all.
