Is Rolovich finally in our rear view mirror forever

If you ask Google where they are, you'll find that the companies that operated this kind of tanker all went belly up, and the tankers have been sold to airlines for conversion into cargo aircraft.

You might also find that air operations start getting dicey as winds go above 30-40 MPH. Windy conditions create turbulence near the ground that make it increasingly unsafe to operate at low altitudes. The higher they drop from, the less accurate the drop, and the more it dissipates. Increasing winds exacerbate this - the 50-80 MPH winds they've seen in these fires mean they would have to drop from higher altitude, which means the wind carries it even more/farther, and makes them less effective.

As for the reservoirs - apparently this passed in 2014. For most of the period between then and now, the big news out of California has been continuing drought and declining reservoir/lake levels. I don't see a lot of point in rushing to build reservoirs when the ones you have are drying out. In the last 12-18 months, the drought has eased in northern California, but most of the south - including the entire LA area - remains in moderate to severe drought. Which is a big part of why it burns so easily.

As for "cleaning the forest floor" I don't know if you've been in SoCal much, but there's not much forest there. That's not really something that's relevant to the current situation.
If there’s any opportunity to suck trumps cock and blame “leftist government” for anything in the news cycle some posters just can’t help themselves.

That said I have work colleagues who’ve evacuated their homes and aren’t sure if they’ll be standing by the end of the week, so leaf raking and fire hydrants aside, praying for the folks who are dealing with this mess…very unfortunate and scary situation.

I was skeptical from the beginning.

2.7-3.4 Million dead in 30-60 days, mainly the young and healthy they said. Remember?

I do.

Then came 30 days.

Then came 60 days.

Coming back to you yet?
So...you're basing your end of pandemic evaluation on initial projections that were continually re-forcaated as new information came in?

Boy, you sure are good at talking out of both sides of your mouth, but thats nothing new. Fact of the matter is, WSU and many other state institutions went above and beyond in their overeach to require a bogus Vax. And now that "data" shows it was bogus, none of these institutions will be held accountable, a sickening reality. I pray that when the next round of overreach comes, more will stand for freedom and reject draconian measures of Inslee and Co. from the last round.
Just to be clear...when you say "bogus vax" what exactly does that mean to you?

That it didn't work at all?

That it didn't work as well as (originally) hoped?

Update on the fire hydrants with no water. The storage tank(s) ran dry. The main power to the pump stations that refill the big reservoir is off due to fire damage. And the backup generator building was burned; total loss. Per my guy on the scene. It has nothing to do with Newsom, dams, or the state in any way. You could probably point a finger at the suburban water district for not sufficiently fireproofing the generator building...and that is something to be considered by other water districts, as well as when this one is rebuilt...but my somewhat informed guess is that no one planned on 100 mph gusts pushing the fire. It is possible that brush clearance was not adequate, but since I have not seen the building myself, I can't say for certain. And even with good brush clearance, enough wind can defeat a lot of clearance.
Fire resistance and safe space are things to be looked at, but if the storage is dry, the pump stations are irrelevant.

Reality is that there’s only so much man can do. You can prepare for what’s likely, but if nature doesn’t cooperate all your preparation is for naught. When fire is pushed by winds of 80 MPH, you’re not going to stop it. Same idea with earthquakes, tornadoes, and hurricanes. You can build to resist 6.5, or 150 MPH winds. But if you get a 7.5 or winds of 180+….forget it.

There's a long X thread on the "I told you so" to California "progressives" who mocked T in 2018. Happy to provide the link. It's tremendous and embarrassing for the utopia-creator types. 😆

Again, I'm not saying that the government didn't fubar the response....but COVID absolutely did kill people whose only crime was being old or infirm. This gal I mentioned above worked at the hospital with my wife and her dad never went anywhere because he knew that he was high risk....but she got sick and gave it to him anyway.

So....a government mandate to limit the spread of COVID from one person to another is an entirely different topic than how to handle heart attacks, cancer or driving in snowstorms. I personally think that states like Washington lost their frickin' minds and went too far. The extra pandemic paychecks were stupid and the whole paycheck reimbursement program was a huge scam for businesses and there are a lot of folks who should be in jail over that one. The government fubared it for sure....but the melodrama from the anti-vax crowd does go overboard at times.

FWIW, my daughter graduated high school at the height of COVID and just graduated Magna Cum Laude with her ChemE degree from the Colorado School of Mines and has her full time job lined up, a guy that she is probably going to marry and only $15k in school loans thanks to scholarships and the bank of Mom and Dad. Not all kids were sacrificed.....
I don’t think the older kids are where the big impact is. My wife works in early elementary and that generation is in trouble. Huge spike in kids not knowing basics. Letters, numbers etc. Some kids are fine because their parents made sure they knew things but without pre-K, K and early grades operating we have a wave of low performers coming.

I’m sure there is. And there’s plenty of shit to mock progressives about. Not raking the forest isn’t one of them.

It is much more than that. California had been run by corrupt utopian-loving "progressives" for decades. They've ruined a once great state.

Yeah, the high school kids already had the basics down. They may not have learned trig and calculus, but they could already add.

I think the biggest problem is the kids who were roughly K thru 2 for the shutdowns. They’ll be in 4-6 now. They didn’t learn the fundamentals that everything else depends on - or didn’t learn them well. The problem is compounded and has an echo because if teachers are going to catch them up, they don’t teach the younger ones as well.

I learned about a lingering effect this year. My youngest is in 3rd grade, reading on a 5th grade level. Her school doesn’t allow her teacher to provide materials or instruction that are more than 2 levels ahead of grade, because it distracts from students who aren’t as far ahead. While I sort of understand the logic, I think it should be pretty easy to just let the kid go to the library and pick their own stuff. Instead, they’re slowing some kids down so that they don’t get too far ahead.

Let them run.

You’re right it is much more than that. Which is why I said there’s plenty of shit to mock progressives about.

This was about raking the forest. Keep up.

Epic <name withheld> rant from a hotel after the LA wildfires forced to evacuate from his home, where he predicts Hollywood leftists will be so frustrated by the rebuild effort that they will not vote Democrat:
"You guys all voted for Karen Bass, the mayor of Los Angeles. You all voted for Gavin Newsom, and now you ****ing get what you get. now that your house is on fire.
So here's what's going to happen. All these people who are deep blue Democrats are now going to have to pull a permit to rebuild, and they're going to get the 28 year old bitch from the Coastal Commission telling them to go **** off and then they're going to vote for Trump or whoever's Trumpian next.
When they start getting the regulation, they're going to go nuts. And when they start running into the bureaucracy and the red tape, they're going to start going nuts and they're going to vote for Rick Caruso next time.
They're going to find out they're going to get bit by their own snake. They're going to convert. I am telling you, these are the bluest people on the planet and they're going to be ****ing rip shit pissed when the City and the Coastal Commission tell them to **** off.
We're going to have to restructure the whole thing because we can't have nine angry lesbians controlling everything that goes on in Malibu, the Palisades and Santa monica."

This is why Californians pay the highest taxes: So that their government can completely fail them in their time of need.

I think you’re trying to change my mind. Fine, I give in. Progressives have got it all figured out! They are right 100% of the time!

I see. It's all about GDP performance. Nice.
Hmmmm.... let me put on my feminine cap and see if I can connect the dots for you

Lower GDP means the economy is faltering, that people aren't buying goods and services. When people shelter in place whether on their own or mandated they are not spending money, and when that happens businesses go out of business, people lose jobs etc.

Our government, Donald Trump came out with PPP money to keep money through the system, people spent like no tomorrow, keeping our economy afloat.

I know of one industry that had their best three year run, profits at their highest level and got so much PPP money they are buying planes, 10 million dollar houses etc.

Then there was a client who had to always buy drinks for everyone after golf. 50k in credit card debt. Got 100k in PPP money , paid off his credit card and had 50k to put down on a new construction.

I know that is stimulus. That debt somehow goes in different bucket and somehow we don't need to pay it back .

You should forward the names of those recipients to your local US District attorney.

A Spokane dermatologist is currently under investigation for use of PPP funds to buy luxury automobiles and other items of that nature. It is an emphasis for the DOJ.

That would seem to be a reasonable solution to those who abused the system.
