Pew Research, a highly respected polling firm, is much more credible than your anecdotal observations. You sound like Mr. Anecdotal, CougEddie. You are just plain wrong on this.

I've been watching this sh!t for 35 years and I don't care what Pew says....the core of the GOP has moved the goal posts to the right. Has the far left moved a little bit more? Maybe....but we are pretty much discussing different versions of sh!t sandwiches at both fringes where the left and right are moving.

You are right on Flat. I would also argue that certain elements of the Democratic Party have or have tried to move their goalposts too.

Don't get me wrong....the "squad" and the other lunatics at the far left of the Democratic party are a waste of space and they have encouraged some pretty stupid policies that Biden has accepted. The Democrats have moved left and the GOP has moved right. Folks that would prefer a compromise where common sense is used are just out of luck these days.

Name one Democrat as crazy as Boebert, Matt Gaetz, MT Greene, Andy Biggs, Ken Buck, Tim Burchett, Eli Crane, Bob Good, Nancy Mace, and Matt Rosendale. You can’t.

If you pretend otherwise you’re full of poop. You may be able to name some woke-ass ultra libtard Dems but not people that are legitimately off their rockers batshit crazy. The truly crazy libtards are in the Green Party.

Edited to add; See? This is how it begins mr penis life-support-system.
Can't stop at just one:
Hillary Clinton
Joe Biden
Mazie Hirono
Hank?? Johnson from GA (guy that thought Guam might tip over if we added too many troops there!)
Maxine Waters
Adam Schiff/Eric Swallwell
Ilhan Omar
Pramilla Jayapal
?? Presley
Stacy Abrams? (still thinks she is GA governor)
Alex Mayorkis
Lurch (PA Senator)

And I'm sure there are plenty more like that hiding out there in plain sight........

Now that's funny stuff right there, I don't care who ya are!

I have a buddy that would replace MTG with Jamie Lee Curtis. Likes her body but can't stand her face. :)

“The Squad” are a tiny irrelevant group of congresspeople that has absolutely zero impact on my life. They have zero impact on yours as well other than as a tool used by propagandists to elevate your blood pressure.
The rightwing lunatics on the other hand do have an impact on all of our lives as they are a major reason why our government doesn’t work. Otherwise I wouldn’t give one shit about them either.
You are completely ignorant if you think that group of far lefties have zero influence on your life. They are the ones pushing all the free government giveaways and Green New Deal bullshit that is driving the inflation that we ALL are suffering from. Forgive student debt. Covid handouts that were unnecessary. Elimination of all fossil fuels. Mandating electric vehicles. Et cetera, et cetera, etc!

OK I said I was done with this thread. Can't resist though, moth to flame. First Stretch, where's AOC? Second, C'mon. What does Hillary have to do with anything in 2023? And her and Biden are crazy? I mean really? Senile maybe. Never heard of most of the rest.

That said Stretch, I agree with you on the issues you mention. The far left is disconnected from reality. Oh let's make all cars electric. Oh but let's breach the dams that supply that electricity. And so on.

Pimp, same with your list. Who? Who?
Gaetz is not crazy, he is just a child molesting attention seeker.
Boebert and Taylor-Greene are crazy. And you forgot that a-hole from Arizona, Gosar.
Nancy Mace isn't crazy. I like her, she calls it like she sees it.
The rest? Meh.

If we could take 10 of the worst from each side of the HOReps and put them in a cliff-bound bus, along with say 4-5 senators from each side, this country would have a chance. Barring that, we are soooo ****ed. And if Cheeto gets back in, I don't think we will even have a world in 6 years. Hey billionaires, you may avoid the immediate fallout from assured nuclear destruction on your big yachts, but you will have nowhere to dock.

Do you think [fill in name of whoever you choose here] is further to the right than Goldwater? Remember that you've proven your grasp on politics and history is relatively shallow.

Gibby, not sure how old you are, but I'm quite certain you were not even born yet when Goldwater was in play. Stretch and I were at least alive then. Not sure how you can say his grasp on history is shallow.

Anyway, who cares. If we have to go back 60 years to further this ridiculous discussion then fine.

If you read what I've been posting....the fringe of the GOP hasn't moved a bunch to the right. What's happened is that the mainstream GOP has moved so far to the right that it's out past the rumble strips and almost off the shoulder. That said, the Democrats have a bunch of people so far to the left that they are on the wrong side of the road. The difference is that in general, the mainstream of the Democratic party hasn't let the radicals get as much control and they haven't sold their souls for #winning. I hate AOC and her idiotic friends but if you watch, she's pissed off most of the time because she doesn't get her way that often.

I wish we that we had a viable third party to defuse this partisan bullsh!t.

Flatland has proven it.

This is probably the two most clueless things you have ever posted here. Seriously.

I didn't comment on your stupid Goldwater comment because it's not relevant. The entire far right of the GOP is filled with a$$holes that don't care about our country....they care about trying to hardwire the system to win on culture war issues that I don't give a sh!t about in the hopes that it will win over the morons that think that abortion, transgender people, guns and illegal immigrants are important issues.

I want a strong, balanced economy that provides us with great infrastructure, robust public education and opportunities for everyone. I don't agree with a lot of liberal policies but I know that the trickle down bullsh!t that the GOP likes to chug doesn't work. I know that continuing to depend on oil for our cars is a recipe to keep the Middle East relevant. The sooner we wean ourselves off the oil tit...the better. But you guys want to fight for foreign oil because it "triggers the libtards". FWIW, our oil producers only produce more oil when oil prices get high enough to generate huge profits. Those f#ckers don't stop because of Biden policies...they quit because they only do it when they can get make 30% margins doing it.

I hate the fact that f#cking morons like you obsess about Hunter Biden's laptop and Hillary Clinton's emails but turn a blind eye to the f#cking Cheeto's lifetime of criminal and unethical activities. Nobody in their right f#cking mind cares about Barry F#cking Goldwater but you bring it up as a f#cking distraction because you know how horsesh!t the current GOP is.

PS....I hate the way that liberals advocate for transgender athletes because I think it's wrong for boys to compete against girls.....but the way that the GOP villainizes transgender people is f#cking disgusting. The lies, hypocrisy and raw misogyny that the GOP feeds on is worse than anything that the libs are doing.

EDIT: FWIW, I don't believe that ICE powered cars should be outlawed and I believe that they are going to be relevant for another 15-20 years....but we need to plan for the future instead of holding onto the past.

I respectfully disagree. AOC and the Squad may squalor a lot, but are they really affecting much?

On the other hand, child molester Gaetz prompts the rebellion against McCarthy, and is successful. All the Repubs are afraid to speak their minds or risk the wrath of Trump. What a bunch of sheep.

The soul-selling, it goes both ways but I would argue that the R's are way worse.

I'm all for encouraging electric cars, and (maybe) even incentivizing them or taxing ICE's. But this outright ban is BS.

I really hate the notion of too many incentives. If there are any incentives, it needs to be on improving the charging infrastructure and charging technology so that electric cars actually start to make sense for more people.

For anyone who doesn't drive outside of the town that they live in or have short commutes....electric cars already make sense. My wife's next vehicle will probably be electric...but we shouldn't be forcing people to make that choice. And in the longer term, we need to figure out how to pay for the abuse that EV's will be putting on roads....but that's a totally different conversation.

I just had this funny thought. So your wife comes home, ready to plug in. Then aliens land and power is cut. She's stuck. She can't charge up. Good thing you have your ICE.

I'm old enough that if our alien overlords show up and cut power...I'm just going to finish eating whatever I can salvage from the fridge and wait for the end to come. My neck hurts too much and my knees are too old to fight a guerilla war against aliens. I now understand why it was kids fighting the war in the original Red Dawn. LOL.

You gonna suck gas out of the tank at the gas station When there’s no electric power?

At least that's feasible. There's no way to suck electricity out of the grid when the power is cut.

If you know the chemistry, you could even brew your own fuel. You're not going to generate enough of your own electricity to charge an EV.

Solar. A lot of folks have solar set ups that are net positive and sell their surplus. There’s storage as well.

No, being a prudent ICE driver you have enough gas in your tank to escape the aliens. And you probably, as do I, have at least a gallon gas can in the garage.

My post was supposed to be tongue in cheek.

My sister-in-law does just this - her solar panels generate more than enough electricity to charge her Tesla model 3 and power her house with energy to spare.

Yeah my last GF had solar. Didn't pay for electricity 9 months a year and very little during those winter months. She would build up a credit with the power company during the summer months. A ton of houses in YakiVegas are on solar. Conditions are perfect out here.

I have solar and v2l. During the winter it might be tough. If the grid goes down, transport will be the least of anyone’s worries.

In most places with decent sun exposure I think it’s about a 7 year break even or so. With panels lasting about 20 years from what I understand. I’d assume that gap is widening as well…lower BE and longer lasting panels. Of course that doesn’t account for your acts of god or anything v else that could cause damage to them.

My neighbor put solar panels on their house last year. They pay $120 per month for the loan for the panels and they were given a $1000 credit to the local energy company when the solar doesn't keep up. They said that they have 70% of their credit still left after one year. My electric bills averaged $135 per month in the past 12 months.

Yeah hell they almost should require solar on new construction that has the right exposure. It has come a long, long way.

This is the solution. More Solar, keep it up with the wind, leave the dams alone. Sorry salmon. Speaking of which, is there still a pack of invasive sea lions down at the first Columbiaa River dam eating half the salmon?

Oh below is an article from 2020 where we can kill 700 of them over 5 years. Now is that happenng? And does sea lion taste like chicken? This article is worth a read, This Sharon Young of the Humane Society cracks me up. "kill these sea lions and more will just take their place". Well we can kill them too. "it's not going to make any difference". Hey Sharon go look at the picture at the top of the article - big fat sea lion chouzing on a salmon. But it will make no difference. Near the end of the article - Oregon fish and wildlife killed 33 sea lions in 2019, predation went from 25% to 7% to 2% over the next two years. But it isn't going to make any difference.

Edit: Speaking of solar, the far right Yakima County Commissioners put a moratorium on solar "farms". and I believe continues to fight against the state on it. They want to protect "farmland". Gawd if you saw the sagebrush and rattlesnake hills that the planners want to use for the state-approved project, there ain't ever going to be farming out there. Way in the middle of nowhere.

How do you figure?
Well, it already takes 24 hours to charge an EV on a standard household (120V) outlet, even when you have a stable and more or less on-demand supply of energy. If you're running your whole life from your solar panels, you have a finite power supply being divided between multiple uses...so your charge rate is likely to be even lower.

EVs simply aren't viable yet. The mandates that CA, WA, and similar states are passing are going to have to get cancelled or pushed back, because so far there hasn't been the necessary investment in the infrastructure to make them possible.

I haven’t heard an update on the sea lion situation for a while but they were protected for quite some time. And yes they had a salmon buffet 24/7 at the dam. To make matters worse, I don’t know what sea Lion tastes like but apparently that northern killer whale pod didn’t eat them and preferred salmon instead. That whole ecosystem seems all sorts of F’d up from a management standpoint.

And international fishing has nothing to do with salmon populations. It's all because of the dams. But only the ones on the Snake. At least until we tear those down...then the ones on the Columbia will be the problem. But not Grand Coulee, and not the Seattle City Light dams, even though they have no fish facilities and completely block the rivers.

Good luck with that. It'll take you a week to charge your car.
During the winter true. Not so druring the summer.
Winter - rub two sticks together and voila!! Heat!

I thought you said I’d be unable to move if electricity went out. Now I have to run my whole life on solar. Way to move the goal posts.

I have a 40 amp circuit I charge with. Doesn't even take over night. If I want to trickle I can change the settings on my charger to 110, but I mostly go with 220. If I use my free Electrify America super changer it takes the time I’m in the grocery store. Don’t even have to make an extra stop at the gas pumps. Yep, my free charging will run out after a while

Not even sure where you got that from. The whole conversation was about the alien invasion and loss of the power grid, and you suggested moving to solar. So, yes...in that case, you're running everything on solar.

Not that I'm interested in an argument about what's already a ridiculous hypothetical.
