We just had our 2nd winning season in a row. We will be just fine, the sky is not falling because we lost Papa Joe.

He is a good man who got paid a ridiculous amount of money. Honestly that amount of cash for a coach is A LOT. If a place came and offered you 150k more per year guaranteed for 3 years you wouldn't take it? PLEASE.

As to his replacement we will be just fine and will get a quality coach. We have pieces to work with, we have a good DC.

This is par for the course when you start having success. Big schools want your assistants.

So far we have had the following schools take our assistants.
Oregon X2 - Yost/Papa Joe
Oklahoma - Simmons
Purdue - Shephard (Going back home)
North Texas - Harell (To be OC from Position)
Texas Tech - Mprris (back home Passing coordinator)
Florida - Choate (think he went to UTep but then Florida than Washington now is HC at Montana State, but he was always trying to advance)

That is a good chunk of coaches moving up/lateral to go home, and that's what happens when you are a program that has success. People want a piece of it/want the success.

We need some DTs, we need some WRs, but we will be okay guys. Breath. Relax. We are a decent team. Not a bad team, not a bad program. A decent competitive program, and that means we get all the challenges a decent team has to face. Keeping/finding new coaches from poachers, Finding and replacing/upgrading talent as it graduates.

I will point out that Leach has no problem recruiting good assistants. And losing some to higher paying opportunities only makes it easier for him to get more.

You are clearly not in touch with the emotional needs of certain posters.

The call of the gibbon resonates The short term effect of everyone s hero leaving is what is causing some concern . The timing is what is the problem. It may be very well that Phelps is actual a better D line coach then the scurrying papa joe The posts only document what is occurring on the rapidly changing recruiting front. We will see on signing day if the concern is justified. It is a recruiting war out there and the call of the gibbon is an amusing sound

Some people at the intestinal fortitude to handle the ups and downs of recruiting. You're not one of them. Maybe you should take a few weeks off.

You must be the flower of your family -a blooming idiot. "intestinal fortitude'? are you serious dude??

It wouldn't be worrisome at all if Joe and others recruited that position like they did when they brought in Destint, Barber and Tapa. The problem is the last three classes has been Thomas Toki and some other DE's that may need to move inside. If we had two or three freshman or redshirt freshman like destiny and Barber when they were freshman there would be no concerns. When they go several recruiting cycles with one DT (Toki) and he was never going to be eligible it reminds me of DOba off the success of three 10 win seasons and a win in the Holiday Bowl. They better pull a rabbit out of their hat and get some bodies.

Agreed but so far none have appeared on the horizon. What interests me is that the cougs did seemingly did not go after juco DT s. A quick scan of the availables do not show the cougs as making any offers

You clearly don't have any.

Since you're obviously new at this, there are basically three parts of the recruiting cycle. The first ends right before the ball game start. That's when the coaches build their boards, invite guys to official visits, and try and get as many commits as they can. Then there's a dead period during the holidays and bowl games. Then there is the free-for-all for the last three weeks of the recruiting cycle. That's where were at now. Buckle up and enjoy the ride, if you can.

I have been at this longer than even you. The ride is a good ride and there will be a couple of more ups and downs. The final two weeks promises to be entertaining. One thing i can say to other posters is that ,despite the well paying jobs.i would have never wanted to make a living recruiting 17-19 year old football players. If an early signing period is approved, then,a lot of this nonsense will come to an end.

That's the right attitude. This is a business, and there is nothing more that Leach wants than to create a program that produces wins and good assistants. That makes PULLMAN more of a place of choice for good players and assistants and staff

And yes.there has been an upgrade,in my opinion,at the DL coaching position. That is good business when one can upgrade one s staff while spending less money.

Coach Joe brought the Poly connection. We've gotten some good players as a result. The new coach may bring in new connections. As long as we can continue to recruit players that can play, where they come from isn't a huge concern of mine.

The Polynesian Bowl is tomorrow.I wonder how many commits will we get from there?. I hope Coach Phelps can extend the pool of potential recruits. We are in need of DT s DE;s and LBs I believe that we only got 1 LB and zero DTs last year. Hopefully the DE s who were recruited have gained in weight and strength
