He was a freak of nature . I was not on campus when Rono was there , but the legend lives on where he would grab a beer at the Coug before a race.

And 11… owe you a big thanks . Switched over to Duck Duck Go on two of my devices. The third the corporate IT will not let me download a different search engine.

Saw that about Rono. Truly a legend. RIP.
And yes ..Duck Duck Go rocks!

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, I was a competitive distance runner in high school. Henry Rono was one of my heroes and I had one of these Henry Rono Nike posters on my bedroom wall. My cousin was attending Washington State Univ. at the time and gave me a nice WSU shirt, which I often wore to high school.

John Chaplin and those great Kenyan distance runners. What memories. Sad to read of Henry's passing, too soon for him.

Rest in peace, Henry. You were a great one.

when I moved to Portland back in 99 I read a depressing article in the Oregonian about how he was a parking garage attendant in Portland and all the terrible issues he had with drinking and how it damaged his life. Truly sad and tragic stuff.

And I’ll always remember that unreal streak he had in 1978 when he set those 4 world records.
