Bakersfield (Calif.) Liberty 2016 linebacker Krys Barnes has been offered by Washington State, according to his coach. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound inside linebacker, who is being recruited by Roy Manning, also holds offers from Boise State, Colorado, Colorado State, Nevada and Utah.

I just exchanged a couple text messages with Perris (Calif.) Citrus Hill safety Mike Bell who says Washington State stopped by today and there's a chance the three-star safety will take an official visit this weekend.

Bell, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound defensive back prospect, de-committed from San Diego State this weekend. Bell visited Fresno State last weekend and also holds an offer from San Jose State.

He didn't have a lot of time to talk and is supposed to be calling me back later tonight.

Washington State head coach Mike Leach announced Tuesday that Eric Mele has officially been named special teams coordinator while Brian Odom, who we reported was joining the staff this morning, has been added in a defensive quality control position.

"Eric did a nice job coming in midway through last season," Leach said. "He is organized, hard-working, energetic and has a great rapport with the players."

Odom, who spent the last three seasons at Houston, will take over a similar role that Mele filled last season, however it will be on the defensive side.

"Brian brings a great work ethic and an experienced football mind to our staff," Leach said. "He has been a part of football staffs that have seen a great deal of success and he will be an asset for our program."

Former BSU rb that spent last spring in Pullman but left the program without ever playing is transferring to Colorado. Does anybody know the story on what happened to him here?

Story

Former University of Houston Co-Director of Sports Performance Brian Odom will join the Washington State football staff in a non-coaching role, a source says.

Odom, who previously worked as the Associate Director of Performance Enhancement at Arizona from 2005-11, was also a graduate assistant at Missouri. He began his collegiate career at Oklahoma in 2001 then finished his playing career at Southeastern Oklahoma State, eventually graduating in 2004.

"I'm excited to have Brian join our staff and there is no question his experiences in strength and conditioning and as a football player will pay immediate dividends for our student-athletes," former Houston head coach Tony Levine said of Odom. "Brian is a talented young coach that fits our culture here at Houston and we are excited to have him join our program."

An official announcement is expected to be released today or tomorrow.

looked absolutely terrible to start the game today against Colorado. However, they were able to comeback late in the game, and beat Colorado!

Oregon should send CougCenter a thank you card for lighting that highlight video fire, no way he ends up at Oregon if that site wasn't worried about generating clicks. Like Biggs said, don't make it easier for other schools. WSU had him on 2 unofficials, 1 officials, numerous in homes and Oregon comes in and offers at the 11th hour and it's over.

With signing day around the corner, I figured I would answer some questions in this thread for the next few hours. Post your questions about Washington State football, basketball, recruiting and whatever else you can think of in this thread, and I'll get to them at my earliest convenience.

Washington State is no longer in the running for four-star cornerback Marcus Lewis, according to Rivals analyst Adam Friedman. The Rivals100 defensive back is making his college decision on February 3 between Kentucky and Miami.

Sorry I'm a little late here but I've been battling the flu so between shots of Nyquil and Alka Seltzer Cold & Flu, I wanted to offer you some thoughts on Mason.

He's a very athletic kid, super quick-twitch and very rangy. He covers a lot of ground at corner and does an excellent job of being athletic when the ball is in the air going up and tipping a pass or picking it off.

The concern with Mason right now is that he's very raw. I saw him last spring bite on double moves and the receiver is gone. Sometimes, it seems, he tries to make the big play instead of just staying with the receiver and keeping him covered up.

I've said Mason will be the guy who comes in and could have an interception or get burned on a deep pass or get lost in coverage. He does need to get coached up at the position but from an athleticism standpoint he's right up there with any CB in the class.

Washington State cornerback commit Willie Sykes is on an official visit to Nebraska this weekend and sounds like a flip is likely. He changed his Twitter background from Washington State to Nebraska tonight. I reached out to him for comment.

My guess is we tell kids "here's what you need" and prior to officially applying, we have a good idea of yes/no, and we tell them we can release them.

I also don't know if Singleton was ever a non-qualifier. My guess is he was treated as a gray shirt. Meaning, his application probably never made it all the way to the admissions office.

LOI Release

As we reported here last week, Norwalk (Calif.) defensive tackle Dillon Faamatau officially visited Arizona State this weekend and I'm hearing that following the visit to Tempe, Ariz., the Sun Devils are going to make a serious push to flip the three-star Washington State commit. We're working on getting first word from Faamatau right now.

Moultrie (Ga.) Colquitt County running back Sihiem King officially visited Washington State this weekend and while we didn't have time to talk at length about the visit, he says it went really well and he enjoyed himself. Shocker.

I am hearing, however, that the Cougars have put themselves in a really good position with King, who will take his final visit to West Virginia this weekend. It sounds like it's really a toss up between the Cougars and Mountaineers at this point. What it's really going to come down to, I'm told, is the distance factor, but this weekend the staff made some inroads there.

Hoping to have more from King as soon as possible.

Pretty well known that Breske ended up in Moscow but does anyone know the occupational status of Volero and Russell? Both had decent resumes prior to coming to Wazzu. They must have been picked up by somebody. Can't find any information via Google but computer expertise is not one of my few virtues.

Snohomish (Wash.) Glacier Peak kicker Spencer Pettit says Washington State has offered him as a preferred walk-on and he will unofficially visit next weekend. The 5-foot-9, 155-pound place kicker visited Nevada over the weekend and has an offer from Eastern Washington.

As a senior, Pettit was named First Team All-Wesco Kicker, First Team All-Wesco Punter, First Team AP All-State Kicker, First Team AP All-State Punter and several other high honors. I was unable to immediately find statistics, but I know he has range from outside 50-yards, including a 56-yarder this year.

Pettit is trained by Chris Sailer Kicking, who rates him as a five-star prospect and the No. 8 kicker in the country.

"Spencer is simply an outstanding kicker," Sailer says. "He has a big leg, hits a great ball off the ground, and kickoffs are strong. Also shows punting potential. Is one of the very best kickers in the nation. Pure and smooth. A fine young man with a great attitude and work ethic. He will have a great college career. Excellent prospect."

The second commit CB, Willie Sykes, came in late last night. The 2 star CB committed deciding to forgo his pending visit to Nebraska. This is the second commit i was talking about. This guy should be rated 3 stars but the rating system here is not that good in my opinion.So there was more going on this week other than the Manning hire
