VERBALS: Two more previously silent commits...

Typically, the Washington State football Twitter account tweets out "It's a great day to be a WSU Coug!!! #GoCougs" when the program lands a new verbal commitment. However, programs also like to keep commitments silent for various reasons, which brings me to some interesting news I heard this evening.

I'm told that Washington State hosted two additional visitors this weekend, bringing the total number of visitors to five. I'm also told the two prospects, who each hold several big offers, committed to Washington State. For whatever reason, though, the staff didn't send out the commitment tweet and I haven't been able to immediately confirm it with either prospect, so I'm holding off on naming those two players until I can gather more information.

Pretty exciting stuff for WSU fans, however. I should have more on this tomorrow, so stay tuned.

VERBAL: Three-star safety flips to Wazzu...

According to Brandon Smart of FH100 Recruiting, City College of San Francisco (Calif.) safety Shalom Luani has flipped from Oregon State to Washington State. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound safety also held an offer from Illinois with interest from Washington and USC.

(This isn't one of the possible silent commits I was talking about last night. Luani visited for the Apple Cup.)

Recruiting emphasis?

So my initial thought was, "Wow, have we recruited with emphasis on the D side." Then I started looking at the numbers.

11 recruits so far are on the Dark Side.

8 (including the Kicker) are on O.

From the numbers I've looked at, we have 4 more schollies to give out. So we could easily pick up a couple more WR's or OL… Don't know if we will, whom the higher "targets" are but just saying perspective is everything.

We are in DIRE need of an improved D and they've recruited to such… but not so much as to ignore the O. When looking back, it isn't like we were ignoring the D side, either… Just seems perspective.

So nothing REALLY to say, just what I've notices...

New offer out to 2016 OL...

According to his Twitter account, Washington State has offered 2016 Auburn (Calif.) Placer offensive tackle Jacob Capra. The 6-foot-5, 265-pound offensive lineman is rated three-stars by Rivals and the No. 20 offensive tackle prospect in the 2016 class.

In addition to Washington State, Capra holds offers from California, San Jose State and Utah. Capra's older brother, Johnny, is currently committed to California. The brothers are being recruited by Clay McGuire.

JUCO receiver update...

Riverside (Calif.) C.C. receiver Isaac Whitney visited West Virginia last week, one week after taking an official visit to USC. He was previously planning on visiting Washington State several times, but the 6-foot-4, 195-pound outside receiver never did trip to the Palouse.

However, Whitney tells Rivals.com's Blair Angulo following his visit to Morgantown that the Cougars are still in his final three despite not visiting. I don't expect Whitney to land at Washington State, though he gave Angulo a few quotes on his WSU interest.

"I wold go to West Virginia because of the situation there," he said. "Kevin White is leaving and playing time would be available. That would be wide open. It's kind of the same thing with Washington State. They throw the ball so much that it means a lot of touches and yards for receivers like me. Playing in coach [Mike] Leach's system would be idea.

"And with USC, it would probably be a good fit for me because I have family in L.A. and I have a good relationship with coach [Tee] Martin."

Prior to his visit to West Virginia, USC appeared to be the favorite to land Whitney, who called the Trojans his dream school. West Virginia, though, looks like they have made up some ground for the three-star receiver. The Cougars are an obvious darkhorse, though having a couple teammates committed up there and familiarity with the program could make the Cougars a surprise pick.

He'll announce on Thursday. Here's the story: https://washingtonstate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1715594
