OT: cable cutting yes or no?

Are you a cable cutter? Why or why not?

Personally, I cut the cord 10 years ago. I found that the programming on network/ cable tv was garbage and that I could get anything I REALLY wanted to watch online or through a streaming service. And I mean specifically ala carte streaming services, not cable disguised as a streaming service (Hulu, Fubo, Sling.) I lived through the growing pains of crappy internet service, bad routers, etc, but honestly I don't feel like I've missed much.

I think the tipping point for me was that after having directv for 15 years I wasn't thrilled about seeing them offer NEW customers a low rate locked in for life plus other free services while my bill grew monthly (it seemed) and when I would call and ask for a deal they'd basically tell me to pound sand. Even when I did the ol' "well, I'm gonna quit dtv" charade. In fact, the last time I called they basically told me to not let the door hit me in the ass on the way out. So... long story long: f directv.

Benefits of streaming services: I can come and go as I please, the programming has gotten exponentially better over the last 10 years across the board, I can get a lot of brain-free watching with OTA channels if that's what I'm in the mood for, in general no ads, series are available to buy if you've missed them.

Drawbacks of streaming services: they are starting to have a lot of ads, depending on what you subscribe to there is no msnbc/fox/cnn (this could be listed under benefit as well), ESPN might or might not be in your package, they always seem to randomly log you off and you have to do the log-in dance again, original programming can get stagnant.

Expanded playoff

Regardless of how the media deal shakes out today, one thing we have to keep in mind is that the college football playoff is only going to get bigger. There are already discussions about expanding it from 12 to 16 or 24 teams. I don't think it'll stop there either. I eventually foresee a 32 team playoff format.

With only 12 teams qualifying for the playoff, a lot of blueblood programs are going to be left out. Media executives aren't going to like it if 9-3 teams like USC, Oklahoma, Auburn, Penn State, etc. aren't part of the playoff.

Given that, it reaffirms why I'm OK with WSU staying out West in a glorified MWC as opposed to chasing dollars in the B12 or a mish-mash of teams from the soon to be reshuffled ACC. If we can settle into a West coast conference where the top-2 teams qualify for the playoff, I'd be completely fine with it. A late season game vs. Oregon State, Hawaii, SDSU, AIr Force, or Boise State with a playoff bid on the line would be exciting for our fans.

FSU on the move?

Last rumors have Florida State wanting to leave the ACC for either the Big 10 or SEC, I would imagine of they go, Clemson is right behind them. And the musical chairs in who is what conference continues. As for Colorado heading to the Big 12, Wilner had an interesting article on this. Many felt they were going to leave and that whatever TV contract was coming up was and either or with Colorado. Their rival has always been Nebraska, the pac 12 was never a good fit, due to their lack of success lately, they aren't a big draw on the TV market, however many expect Prime to change that.

Arch Manning trading card

This so F-ing nuts. who would pay $100,000 for any trading card, let alone some kid who has yet to throw a CFB pass. Who the F has that much money to throw around? Color me bitter, but I worked for many years, have a decent retirement, and am happy with that. These rich people just slay me. Takes me back to 1982, when Ronald Raygun slashed the highest tax rate from 70% (granted, a little steep) to 28%. And here we are today. Homeless everywhere, my current city is cutting firefighters and police. Mass shootings pretty much everyday.

More OT cuz you are all boring

Just read on Fox (yes I go there on occasion) about the Jason Aldean controversy about his song "try it in a small town". I mean for F-s sake. People are trying to turn it into a racist song, when it is all about small town people not putting up with big city crime and violence. How is that racist?

Yeah it was filmed in front of some courthouse where a black guy was lynched almost 100 years ago. According to the article, multiple videos have been shot there. Our country is so F-ed. As I've said many times, I am a moderate independent. I am so sick of this left wing vs right wing crap. It's just tearing the US apart. As is the G-D Supreme Court. How the F do we fix it? The young people, from what I see, don't give a shit about anything but staring into their phones. Old people are set in their ways, polarized one way or another by what they read or see on TV. The rest? I include me, although I'm getting kinda old too. We support freaks like DeSantis, and yes both Trump and Biden. And RFK Junior? What a freak show he is. WTF? when can we get back to some normalcy, decent values, etc. ?
