UPDATE: Austin Maihen flips to Stanford...

According to Andy Drukarev of the Stanford site, Santa Margarita (Calif.) Catholic offensive tackle Austin Maihen has flipped from Washington State to Stanford after being admitted to the school.

It's a tough loss for the Cougars, though it was always known that this was going to happen should he be admitted, which he did. The staff has continued to recruit offensive lineman and I'll have the offensive big board updated shortly.

UPDATE: Note on LB Kyahva Tezino (1/8, 10:22 p.m.)

According to Rivals analyst Adam Gorney, Los Angeles (Calif.) Salesian linebacker Kyahva Tezino may be close to picking up an Ole Miss offer, which would likely come this evening. The four-star committed to Washington State a couple weeks ago.

Ole Miss is clearly in the market for a linebacker as they've also offered Riverside (Calif.) C.C. linebacker Jonah Moi, also a Washington State commit. I've heard Moi is intrigued by the Ole Miss offer, but no plans are in place to visit as of now.

As for Tezino, he's expected to take an official visit to San Diego State this month, though no date has been announced as of now. The Aztecs have been recruiting him hard but Tezino admitted that SDSU would have to be really impressive to beat out Washington State, which bodes well with a late Ole Miss push.

"I'm trying to see something different and see how they do things down there," Tezino said of SDSU at the Semper Fi Bowl. "Washington State obviously showed me a great time, so we'll see if San Diego State can top that.

"Colorado, Oregon State and UNLV have contacted me, so I'm not sure where else I'll visit. My commitment is strong, but I just want to make sure it's the right choice for me."

FSU looks lost

I don't think they have played an up tempo team with similar quality athletes before.

I also question their preparation for the read option. Maybe they don't have anybody on their scout team who could imitate it? Or maybe their DC just isn't very good? That is hard to believe with as many games as they have won this year.

And when they start to make mistakes, they just keep digging themselves deeper. Too many dumb clock management mistakes on top of execution errors.

The Ducks look about like usual for this season. Half the teams in the PAC gave them a better game than FSU has managed.

I am frankly surprised.

REPORT: Oregon, Altman sued over alleged assault...

The University of Oregon and men's basketball coach Dana Altman were sued Thursday afternoon by the alleged victim of a March sexual assault involving three former Ducks basketball players, according to The Oregonian.

The suit says that Altman was fully aware that one of the players, Brandon Austin, had been suspended from his former college because of another sexual assault accusation and the 18-page civil complaint, filed in U.S. District Court in Eugene, says the alleged victim "suffered damages and injuries as a result of the UO's violations of Title IX."

Austin and two other players, Damyean Dotson and Dominic Artis, were never charged in the alleged assault citing "conflicting statements and actions by the victim" while acknowledging that the Eugene Police Department's investigation revealed there was nonetheless "no doubt the incidents occurred." All three players are no longer with the University, though Austin and Artis are already playing at other colleges.

REPORT: Former QB files lawsuit vs. WSU football...

Former Washington State walk-on quarterback Domenic Rockey has filed a lawsuit against the University claiming that Washington State University football coaches' demand for player accountability led to a locker room assault.

According to the KXLY report, which can be found here, the legal action stems from an assault that occurred in the locker room in October of 2013 in which Rockey was assaulted by former Washington State defensive lineman Emmitt Su'a-Kalio.

"Court documents show it started when another player was late for a morning team workout," the report says. "Coaches then made the team do 75 up downs as punishment. Rockey was unable to do the exercise correctly because of an ankle injury.

"The Cougar coaching staff then told the players they would start over with the up downs unless Rockey got them right at which time he left. After the workout Cougar defensive lineman Emmitt Su'a-Kalio punched Rockey breaking his jaw in two places, shattering a wisdom tooth, and chipping a molar."

The report says Rockey had surgery in Spokane to have his jaw wired shut and as a result of the injury his college football career was over.

"The suit argues that Su'a-Kalio assaulted Rockey because of the Cougar coaches' constant demands that players keep each other accountable," the report states. "Court documents cite head coach Mike Leach specifically, referring to a letter he sent to the WSU Student Conduct Board in support of Su'a-Kalio. The letter stated Su'a-Kalio misinterpreted the accountability preaching and took it literally."

While the report says the suit is seeking unspecified damages against the University, Rockey's surgery cost $10,000, in which his insurance covered two thousand and WSU Athletics paying about $3,600.

Su'a-Kalio left the football program last spring after pleading guilty misdemeanor assault stemming from the incident and Rockey is still a student at Washington State.

REPORT: Pendergast in play for Wazzu DC...

Former University of Southern California defensive coordinator FootballScoop.com report.

"Pendergast remains in the running for Washington State's defensive coordinator position (with a small number of others)," Zach Barnett of FootballScoop.com wrote. "With a decade of experience calling plays in the NFL and the Pac-12, Pendergast would be a good hire for Mike Leach in his quest to pair the nation's seventh-rated offense with something other than the nation's 99th-best defense. We hear a decision is expected in a few days."

UPDATE: Oklahoma CB sets official visit...

Lawton (OK) cornerback Darreyl Patterson says he'll officially visit Washington State on January 30. The 6-foot, 165-pound defensive back will also visit Oklahoma on January 16 and Kansas State on January 23. He'll pick from those three schools.

Patterson has been on the Washington State radar for several months, having set plans to officially visit in both September and November, however he was unable to make both trips due to complications with his high school football schedule.

It appears Arizona State, who was also high on Patterson's radar early on, is no longer in the running for the three-star, who is rated the No. 66 cornerback in the country and No. 7 prospect in Oklahoma.

CML style/system/whatever is sought after

Googled this morning for kicks and giggles and found article after article about how UO needs to hire the likes of CML, or someone within his tree. I can only imagine that when a player is being recruited by CML in the mid-west, and they see an article like this, knowing CML is here for the next 5 years, its gotta give a little security in the idea of coming to WSU.

Nothing earth shattering, just interesting. I still shake my head at the amount of national exposure we get, just by having CML as a coach… still.

Recruit update

Jeff Pollard's team is 3-6, he is averaging 12 pts and 8 rebs a game.

Derrian King's team is 5-7, he is averaging 11.6 pts per game.

Renald Suggs' team is 12-2.

Robert Franks team is 4-5.

I'm having trouble finding stats on the last two guys other than win loss records. I'm assuming Suggs is still in or around the 16 point a game range.

UPDATE: New CB offer out in Texas (1/7, 8:33 p.m.)

Dallas (TX) Kimball cornerback Antoine Stephens picked up an offer from Washington State today. The 6-foot-2, 187-pound defensive back has been busy today, also adding offers from Texas Tech and Oklahoma. Prior to today's trifecta, Stephens held a lone offer from SMU, though Mississippi State and Kentucky could also be close to pulling the trigger.

According to BulldogBlitz.com, the Rivals.com Mississippi State website, Stephens is set to take an official visit to SMU on Jan. 17 with preliminary plans to visit Mississippi State, Kansas and/or Oklahoma.

DC Thoughts

This is definitely a different situation -

I'm not sold on Clancy Pendergast in that I don't know that he can do more with less. Although he has a great college resume, he's been at schools with recruiting advantages and the higher caliber athlete you find at USC. I don't think he would be able to do more with the athlete of norm you will find at WSU. Look at his NFL resume where everyone in general is a great athlete.

I keep thinking CML has tapped a position coach on a staff in the NFL playoffs or on the OSU/UO staff.

How about this guy?

REPORT: Cal's Rob Likens named Kansas OC...

According to Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports, California assistant head coach Rob Likens has been hired as the offensive coordinator at Kansas. Likens, arguably Cal's top recruiter, was also Cal's passing game coordinator and receivers coach.

This is significant for Washington State because Likens was Ventura (Calif.) St. Bonaventure receiver Lavan Alston's primary recruiter. Alston, who will officially visit Washington State on Jan. 16, has already officially visited Cal and has been closely linked to the Golden Bears since.

Oregon State and Nebraska are also in the picture -- and could hold the edge -- but the Cougars' chances get a boost with Likens bolting to Kansas.

BREAKING: Wazzu lands 3-star WR (1/7, 10:41 a.m.)

Oklahoma City (OK) Westmoore receiver Dahu Green committed to Washington State today. The 6-foot-4, 188-pound receiver, who was previously committed to Louisville, picked the Cougars over offers from Boise State, Cincinnati, Kentucky, SDSU, Virginia, Wake Forest and several others.

Green is rated the No. 45 wide receiver in the country and the No. 5 prospect in Oklahoma. He officially visited Washington State in early October and de-committed from Louisville a couple weeks ago. Dennis Simmons was Green's primary recruiter and the pair had an in-home visit shortly before the dead period began.

It's a big pickup for Washington State, who was looking to add another receiver in this class. As I've mentioned below, I think Green was their top wide receiver target and he immediately becomes one of the top five prospects in this class, which now ranks No. 28 in the country and No. 6 class in the Pac-12. The Cougars' 24 verbal commitments are the most of any school in the conference.

With Green now in the fold, Washington State has verbal commitments from three receivers including Kyle Sweet and Deontay Burnett. They'll also add former Clemson receiver Kyrin Priester, who arrived on campus last night, but will have to sit out the season due to NCAA transfer rules.

Green has an impressive highlight reel, which you can view here.

WSU wins 8 if they play in the SEC

I've seen enough. Ole Miss rolled, Miss State rolled, LSU beat, A&M has student assistant cheap shotting kids on the sideline, thankgoodness Arkansas had only 8 league games and got to a bowl with their 2 league wins... otherwise they're at home this year. Auburn has Wisconsin tomorrow and Bama has Ohio State... is there any reason to believe either of those teams win? Bama got beat by Ole Miss, supposedly one of if not the best defense in the nation, and now they're gonna play Ohio State that just put up 59???

Every PAC 12 school goes to a bowl game if they play in the SEC. Shoot, the way it's going, the ACC is kicking their arse all over the South.

ESPN might wanna rethink who they've gotten in bed with and look West.
