OK guys, it is realignment crunch time

If anyone else reads the sports news - the MW is pushing to keep the rest of its schools in the fold, including guaranteed money to stay, extra money to UNLV and AF to stay, etc. AAC is pushing to keep its schools from bolting. In other rumors, you know they are looking at AF and maybe UNLV as well. That would totally F both the Pac and what's left of the MW.

I watched Teresa at halftime patting herself on the back for blowing a shit ton of our money on the MW traitorous 4. OK, now what? This could totally blow up in her face. We need to offer UNLV and whoever else from the MW NOW. Like today.

And on the other note, where are we at on our 2025 schedule? Have we called Ole Miss yet?

We could be doing some serious crying in our beers by the end of the week.

DOJ puts Utah St. on notice addressing their Title IX violations...

Did we lower the bar or raise the bar by adding Utah St.? Have they ever been that relevant in football? Isn't the vast majority of their TV market consist of Utah and BYU?
Why the dire rush to add USU Logan, a 7th team to the Pac-12?

DOJ puts Utah State on notice for ‘substantial non-compliance’ issues related to Title IX violations

In a letter to Utah State, the DOJ notes ‘alarming evidence of a pervasive, sexually hostile culture and climate within the football program’

Why the Pac-12 sees UNLV as a hold your nose conference addition!

Sure UNLV feels jilted and unloved by the Pac-12 right now. They weren't on the initial rebuild list with the "Four." Then the Pac-12 tried to raid the AAC, rather than extend them offer on top of that. I'd feel hurt and unwanted too. Some of you even think that this was a huge mistake on the part of the Pac-12, why not UNLV? But it is business. The business of securing the best possible media deal for the new PAC. To do that you need schools and programs that garner TV ratings. The better the ratings the conference schools have the more you can bargain for. It is all about eyes on the TV, and UNLV utterly sucks at it. Below is an article by a Nevada source which points out that since 2016 Utah State has way better ratings, even better than SDSU (but SDSU offered a basketball bump). On the other hand, since 2016, UNLV ranks below every school in the MWC, below Air Force, below Wyoming. It gets worse, much worse. Below Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico and San Jose State. Drum roll please.... UNLV's TV ratings since 2016 have been 104th nationally. Nevada's, the team completely left out of the discussion because they don't add value, ratings were number 100.

The Pac-12 may need to accept UNLV into the conference, for business reasons, but that primary business reason is to put a nail in the MWC coffin, not because UNLV adds media value. Having UNLV in the Pac-12 will cost the conference millions in a media deal and credibility. Sadly, they are a hot steaming turd of a potential addition from a media value prospective, the least watch MWC school over the last 8 year period. You can claim they add the lucrative Vegas market, but who are you kidding? More people in Vegas watch the Beavs and the Cougs on Saturday than the Rebel Whoz.

Most stupid thing I've ever read....Paul Sorenson

F-it, I'll link the Brand X article. What a crock of shit.

"I think Pac-12 Commissioner Teresa Gould is smart as hell. I think she has been doing a lot of rope-a-doping here. The Presidents ultimately decide, but she's a veteran backroom fighter, and making the right moves.

I think Gould is a brilliant commissioner,"

Either Paul is F-ing her (no thanks BTW), or he is I don't know what. Ms. "swing for the fences" from last Friday has F-ed this thing up so badly. All to keep her job, at the expense of the Pac-2 and the MW. This new lawsuit is pathetic. Snookering the 4 traitors with promises of AAC poaches will be exposed. They so played her. We will survive in spite of her. And how is our 2025 schedule looking, Teresa and Anne?

First look:

Washington State visits Boise State in teams’ first clash since 2017

Coming off a 54-52 double-overtime win over San Jose State, a thriller that captured the attention of college football fans across the nation, Washington State heads south to take on a Boise State team also challenging for a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff.

For the Cougars, it’s the first game of a Pac-12/Mountain West scheduling agreement that provided WSU and Oregon State games for this season.

Where is it?

Albertsons Stadium in Boise, Idaho.

When is it?

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. PT, 8 p.m. MT.

Where can I watch it?

FS1 will broadcast the game.

Who is favored?

Washington State was around a 7.5-point underdog in most sportsbooks as of Monday morning.

Scouting Boise State…

Boise State’s best player is one of the best in the nation, star running back Ashton Jeanty, the engineer of the Broncos’ offense. His 586 rushing yards rank second nationwide, and his 10.5 yards per carry ranks first. He has totaled nine touchdowns, which is tied for second in the country, and with a Pro Football Focus rushing grade of NFL-caliber 93.8, he is PFF’s top-graded rusher among backs with 50-plus carries.

Jeanty has garnered some serious hype for the Heisman Trophy
, too, sitting out the second half of BSU’s romp over FCS Portland State last weekend. He’s seventh nationwide in missed tackles forced with 26, making it important for the Cougars to wrap him up when they get the chance.

“He’s strong. He’s got one of the best stiff arms I’ve seen in a long time,” Dickert said. “So if you think you’re going to tackle him above the waist, it’s not happening. You gotta get through his legs. You gotta kill his motors. You gotta gang tackle with this guy. It’s not gonna be one person. You gotta keep your leverage.”

Boise State’s quarterback is sophomore Maddux Madsen, who won the starting job in fall camp over USC transfer Malachi Nelson, the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2023. This season, Madsen has completed 52 of 89 passes (58.4%) for five touchdowns and one interception. He isn’t quite a game manager, but he isn’t the focal point of the Broncos’ offense, either.

Boise State’s other weapons on offense include backup running back Sire Gaines (questionable for Saturday’s game with an injury) and receivers Cameron Camper and Latrell Caples, the latter of whom have combined for 21 receptions for 363 yards and three touchdowns, all from Camper.

On defense, Boise State has yielded 46 points to Georgia Southern, 37 to Oregon and 14 to Portland State. The Broncos’ playmakers on that side of the ball include cornerback A’Marion McCoy, who has pocketed two pass breakups, safety Rodney Robinson and linebacker Andrew Simpson, who has made three sacks this season.

What happened last time?

WSU and BSU’s last meeting came in 2017 in Pullman, where the Cougs escaped with a triple-overtime victory, capped by running back Jamal Morrow’s game-winning touchdown. In that one, the late Tyler Hilinski replaced injured QB Luke Falk and led a comeback, which started when Boise State took a 31-10 lead in the fourth frame.

First game I've been able to watch most of

Since I had the day off from work, so I could see more than highlights. Quick impressions, feel free to correct me if you've seen more or see things differently:

1: The talent drop has certainly begun. We're not full-on MWC yet, but we're well on our way, particularly in the place that it shows up the most, up front. This was starting to become clear last year, but it's even moreso now.

2: Mateer has an accuracy problem. Whoever said he's a poor-man's Tebow has it just about right. Surround him with great talent and he's a Heisman contender because of his mobility and knack for improvisation, but he rarely hits anyone perfectly in stride or in a tight window, and he also takes a while to go through his progressions. He doesn't freeze up like Falk would, or play Tecmo QB like Ward, he just takes off instead. That often works, but somebody is going to have the personnel to smother him.

3: Not super impressed with blocking in general offensively. It shows up in spurts, but there is no consistent handling of the point of attack, and not just the linemen. Those outside screens are trash when your receivers are playing matador with the DBs.

4: I don't have a firm impression of the run defense, though lateral speed on that side of the ball seems fine. Getting off blocks or finishing tackles might be a bigger issue.

5: Janikowski is wild ride this year. Hope he can settle down.

6: Nobody in the secondary can play with their back to the QB, and this is a weakness that everyone on our schedule is going to pound on. Nobody gets their head around. It's a completion or a mugging every time.

Overall I'd say the running game and the offensive line looks a hair better, the passing game is iffy but as long as Mateer is running around it partially compensates. The defense looks fast enough to get by, but the corners are playing blind and without a pass rush it's going to be get picked apart in zone or bombed in man.

I will say that as a group they seem resourceful and persistent and emotionally tough, and that's not nothing. The 3rd quarter was ghastly, the secondary got cooked repeatedly, but they made plays and stuck with it instead of hanging their heads and letting it get away. This is also a better SJSU team than several I remember from prior years, and well-coached. They'll win more games. Grateful to escape with a win, but not super happy with the performance.

Wow. I never saw this until today....

A little pause before we talk about Boise.

1. Never seen this video before.
2. They got it wrong. Oregon St. was the all time loser of the then Pac-10, (not Washington St.).
3. No mention of crushing Oregon that day. Really?
4. Aren't you glad we've kept the tradition, now being 4-0, instead of abandoning our marketing on ESPN?
5. Tom Pounds gets more credit than ever, (mainly for the hundreds of recruits who've signed).

Minshew Week 3

LV stumbles at home badly to 0-2 Panthers. Minshew's stats were "OK", but threw an int with the game still in the balance and failed to convert a 4th and 1 keeper (?). O'Connell came in and led LV to a late TD. Will be interesting to see what they do next week. If Minshew gets benched that will probably be it for him. Good thing he got that $15M guaranteed.
