Basketball trivia

One hopes that the staff is after Mikyle McIntosh, the graduate transfer from Ilinois state. He seems to be a definite cut above the Georgetown Transfer. However, all i have seen is Illinois,Oregon State and possibly Wisconsin. As pointed out earlier, McIntosh as a fellow Canadian , seems to know Ergas who is redshirting at WSU.

I like Elcomanche's approach to this season. It is time to finally recognize that we have a bunch of nice young players with a lot of upside, but they aren't likely to contend for post season this year.

Not sure why but after Tony left nobody was able to appreciate that next team with no upper class players, but with Klay Casto and Moore. They had a much better season than the Cowgill Low Weaver Baynes team as underclassmen.

This is not about coaches, but rather about people being able to enjoy young talent and watch it mature.

I actually think that the young talent may surprise a lot of people.I believe that they will be fun to watch and will grow with each game.

It will be very interesting to see how things shake out the fist month or so. We have a ton of new faces both as players and coaches. If the new players workout as I hope it may be a learning year this year that might not translate in to wins but the following year with experience and added recruiting from the new staff we could finally start to see WSU basketball become what many of us hoped for when Kent was hired

Sporting News just came out with their Preseason Top 25 college basketball teams. As expected,Arizona is ranked number 1 . UCLA is ranked at number 12 and USC is ranked at number 15 in their poll.

The rich get richer? Klye Mc Intosh 6'7 graduate transfer to visit Oregon today according to reports

McIntosh was getting looks from Kentucky, UCLA, and I believe Oregon out of high school so it's not exactly a surprise. He's a good player and grad transfers are looking to go to the Tournament. It was wishful thinking on part Ergas might get us a visit.

Utah s 6'5 Devon Daniels frosh has transferred to North Carolina State . He averaged 10 pts and 5 rbs a game for the Utes last year . Daniels has three years of eligibility left. A really big loss for the Utes.I am liking the cougs chances against Utah next year.

Cal s 7'1 grad transfer Kameron Rooks has transferred to SDSU. This will hurt Cal as he provided basket defense.

Kwintin Williams, the 6'6 juco 's saga continues. He has had recent offers from Pittsburgh and E Carolina but has not committed. Either ,he may be being unrealistic in which teams will offer him or he really does not have the grades to enroll in a major university? The cougs seem to no longer be recruiting him

He may realize there is more to life than basketball and be simply trying to evaluate the situation and make the best choice for him. It does seem odd that either he or the schools seem to cool interest after the visits. I doubt schools wouldn't know his academic situation prior to wasting time and money on a visit.

PS: Thanks for the research. I don't seem to have the time or the passion to dig into the recruiting like I used to so thanks for keeping us updated

It does not seem like he has taken any visits. That is the strange thing about it.Schools are interested in him as he is super athletic. But after they offer,he has yet to make a visit as far as i know . When Kent first approached him, he said he had a special relationship with Ernie but he never visited.. Oregon was in contact with him but they did not make an official offer.Maybe the saga will soon end.

latest NBA rumor is that the LA Lakers will not take Lonzo Ball with the second pick. The two main reasons give are his upside is not seen as that great and the trouble in dealing with dad.

Interesting. I can see the issues with his dad, but I think the kid will be great. If you really look at his shooting stroke it is way better than people think. Nice rotation, good trajectory, and quick release.

He has a workout scheduled with the Lakers scheduled this week .If he does not wow them than J Jackson or the guard from Kentucky will move past him in the Draft

Drick Berstein a 6'8 220 pd graduate transfer from North Dakota St may be on the cougs radar. He averaged 8.3 pts and 7.5 rbs last year. During his first year ,he averaged 9.7 pts and 9.1 rbs He had 20 pts and 15 rbs vs Arizona in the Big Dance contest He is basically an inside player which is what the cougs need He shot 53 % from the field and free throw line

Sounds good to me.

On Kwintin Williams he was scheduled to visit Portland State per verbal commits. He's probably wise to just let things play out because teams always need a forward and maybe someone else 'bigger' comes in late.

I still believe when Gittens signed plans changed for James or Williams. We just don't have much room for next year and a grad transfer became the preferred strategy. You can't bank on players leaving to create space.

This guy would be perfect as je is a strong inside player. His showing against Arizona is certainly encouraging

Hopefully we can get him in for a visit and he fits. Looks like he could end up in demand at this stage.

I would take another big grad transfer even if it's just for depth.

That is more than likely a smokescreen to keep the Celtics away. The word I hear is the Lakers and Magic are infatuated with the guy and he could easily be held ransom by the Celtics.

With no returning seniors , and 5 returning juniors it would take a very special under class player before I would want to see us fill out the roster with anything other than a grad transfer

I think that the Kent haters are hilarious. i do not know what the coug s chances are with Drick Bernsteine ,a 6'8 220 pd grad transfer. However a few posters are already denigrating his abilities, There seems to be a family connection to WSU. This guy had 20 pts,15 rbs against Arizona in March. He also had 10 pts 14 rbs and 8 assists against Iowa this year. Last year he had 16 pts and 9 rbs against Wisconsin last year. He had big games against the best competition. Somehow these posters think that he can either play 25 minutes for a non competitive team or play 5 minutes for a tournament bound team . I guess that they may be afraid that he may choose the cougs.

Your continued effusive defense of Kent, in year 4 after 3 very desultory campaigns, smacks of Trump loyalists' continued support after 4 months of astonishing ineptness, as both are irrationally based on absolutely nothing cogent, verifiable or real. At least in Kent's circumstance, I hope he justifies your blind devotion.

No blind devotion I suspect thet the people attacking him are probably Trump loyalists. i just like the young talent he is assembling. How good ,they will really be is any body s guess The attacks are more trump like with an attempt to twist anything his or their way. Anyway the infusion of politics on this board smacks of desperation in trying to make a point. It really makes no sense

Not really inclined to continue the political comparison, but what the heck. Better comparison to Trump would be Paul Graham. Totally unqualified for the job, with no redeeming personality positives to boot.

Not to mention giving their unqualified offspring an important position on their team.

Maybe bogusto is the Sean Spicer of the board? There seems to be a disconnect between he and trump. I say move it back to basketball.

I say you are much like Trump deflect anyone who doesn't agree with you. Most of us on here have been here and watched a number of coaches. Kent in year 4 is where he should have been in year 1. Finally getting a recruit and finally putting together a staff on which he can build.

Kent did hire a new staff when hoe arrived in Pullman.. Much like Leach s staff which has changed.i dare say that i have been around longer than you. I truly wish that was not true. Some people are like many things in life which everyone has.If Kent succeeds this year it is because of the recruits he now has. All of the other recruits are gone. It is more about the Jimmies and the Joe s and not the X s and the O s.. It is funny that a couple of posters here have trouble with an opinion which differs from theirs and make humorous and illogical comparisons to people they either dislike or secretly admire

Not sure where you are reading this "denigrating" of Bernstine. I assume you are once again coming over to this board with comments about Brand X. I took a look. There is one thread on Bernstine over there with 12 posts. One guy (2 posts) is wondering why Bernstine would choose WSU over Gonzaga or UO (both schools apparently looking at Bernstine as well) and one other (1 post) predicts he'll choose Gonzaga. The other 9 posts are positive on Bernstine and there is no hint of Kent hate. I don't know how you get from that to "Kent haters & denigrating Bernstine's abilities".

I appreciate and respect your support & optimism for Coach Kent, but I sometimes wonder where that kind of support was for Coach Bone who, arguably, had done a lot more in 3 years than EK has. No, I"m not a Bone lover & supported a change, but I see a double standard here. I remember reading a lot of "Bonehead" references from you.

Optimism & excitement is great, but I don't blame anyone who wants to see actual results first before getting too giddy about Cougar basketball.

Glad Cougar

I will say that i actually like the interest in coug basketball. I find the political references amusing. Kent knows how to build a winner Coach ..er Bone was in way over his head. We will soon see if Kent can bring the cougs back. He does have anew staff and players with potential.

You've been around longer than 7I? Really? Red Board ring a bell with you?

No it does not . But i have not been an active poster on boards until the last 8-10 years ,i believe. But I have followed coug sports for a lot longer than that. I am glad to see that basketball may be resurfacing in the minds of posters.Good or bad ,it is still interest.

I probably get the longevity award for regular posters. My first Coug game was Jan 1966 a one point win over defending national champ UCLA. Not sure that gets me much except strong opinions which may or may not be valid.

I have had the opportunity to see multiple practices of almost every coach during that time. Graham was unbelievably bad. Pretty much stood around the whole practice and let his assistants coach. Eastman was smart but talked over the heads of his players with a lot of jargon that often left them with a blank stare. Bone and Dick Bennett are both great teachers. Dick new how to play the underdog , we get no respect, card. He also spent a lot more time on offense than most people would expect. Tony let his assistants run much ofbthe practice. They were very well organized and Tony watched intently, jumping in at key times with input.

Except for Graham all these guys could x and o enough to ein with decent talent
The problem is that nobody including Tony was able to consistently get enough talent to avoid down seasons. We were trending down when Tony left. He wouldn't have made the dance with the team he left Bone. Maybe in year two, but other than Klay and Casto the roster was entirely sub D 1 talent and a couple of guys a year or two away from being solid contributors.

Mallachi Flynn one of 28 players, 19 and under, selected to try out for the World Cup team he is the first Coug since Thompson and Castro who were selected from Wazzu to participate in the try outs.

Yeah I have seen your New Mexico posts and I will bet you can't even tell me the capacity of Bohler Gym? Clearly you are a johnny-come-lately.

Ernie Kent in his three years has yet to post a winning record with no post-season appearances. He has had dismal recruiting up to this spring.

You always like to beat up on Ken Bone. His first three years were all winning seasons. But he got terrible and got fired which was a good thing.

We all wish Ernie Kent good luck and we all pretty much agree that he is starting after three long years to get it. He has finally gotten some assistants which he could have and should have done three years ago.

He has a couple of players and is starting to make good in-roads on what we all thought he should have done long ago. Recruit players that play his game.

There are many old farts on here like Bob, and others (I am included) but that has little meaning in today's hoop world. It is much like Romar he should have been fired just like Ken Bone before him. Both guys but not up to today's job. It remains to be seen about Kent.
