Romar holding on for another year would have kept them behind even with all the talent coming in. IMO, Hopkins will still bring in a lot of talent and do everything else involved with hoops a lot better than Romar could at this stage. They also picked up Jay Z's nephew Nahziah Carter who I believe is a fringe 4-star the beginning of the month.

The cougs have offered 6.7 165 F Aguir Agau ,2018 who is rated as a 2 star recruit.. Hopkins has about 4-5 good recruits for 2017 and he will have them competitive in 2 years.

Agau is now listed as 6'7 190 and evidently is having a great summer. He will be rated as 3 stars as his video is impressive

A few things on this guy. First it would have been awesome to get a package deal with his brother a grad transfer from Georgetown to SMU but oh well. Second I would be interested to know why he was dismissed from his high school team as a jr. We will probably never know so all we can do is trust Coach Kent on that one. More importantly he seems to have reclassified from 2017 to 18, if that is the case is it possible we are recruiting him for 17. Gittens reclassified to 18 then we nabbed him for 17. Either way looks like a solid pick-up and really hope we get him to commit before his stock rises to much.

Watching his highlights that's the first thing I thought as well but wasn't aware he reclassified to 2018. We still have a spot open and I would definitely take an athletic 6'7" 190 PG/SF over keeping the spot for the next cycle. He probably ends up out of our orbit in another year.

As noted in CougCenter,Josh hawkinson will start his pro career in Japan, There is very good money there. One wonders if Conner who is half Japanese will follow suit? Only 93 days until college basketball season

Does anyone know if Jason Dudly the basketball strength coach has been working with the players during the off season? Players like Chidom, need the strength and conditioning program.to elevate their game.

They may be getting back but Chidom, Ergas, and Acquaah all had video working out outside of WSU. Chidom appear maybe slightly bigger? He's still slight personally I don't see much of an issue. They don't seem to see him as a banger. Get him a stronger and he should be fine.

The weight is not that big an issue for Chidom. There were several players who were drafted in the NBA s first round who were 6'8 and under 200 pounds. The issue is strength, explosiveness,.and rebounding prowess. With his height and skill set he can stretch the floor for the cougs. This year s team needs to build on their strengths and forget about the size of Hawkinson and Conner which were a liability against the quicker teams.

He will get stronger and hopefully more explosive. He's skilled and hopefully that translates to the court.

Should be interesting to watch how they develop next year.

Kent would recruit another Hawkinson. I'm pretty sure other programs wish they had recruited him as well.

Mohammed Bamba a 5 star recruit to Texas has allegedly taken gifts from his financial adviser. These charges were made on Facebook by his brother I Johnson. Brotherly Love? Crazy stuff .Maybe it is time for HS recruits to be NBA Draft eligible?

It is said that Bamba s brother was angry that Bamba did not help get him into a graduate program at U Of Texas..What an ass ,if Bamba makes millions playing basketball, guess.who will be on the outs. If he accepted gifts, one cannot condone it but who needs enemies with a brother like that?

USC lands number twenty rated recruit in Taeshon Cherry, a four star 6'9 220 PF His roster may soon rival UCLA and Arizona s next year..USC beat out Arizona ,Gonzaga, and Texas A &M for his services .

What is interesting to me is that some top Washington HS players list OSU in schools being considered.. The Beavs had a horrible year last year and the cougs dumped them twice. However,, players still consider them as a possible option. Granted the product last year was a slow cumbersome team with Hawkinson and Conner in the lineup at the same time. Are the facilities more to blame? One wonders if and when the new coaching staff at WSU will start to show results in recruiting higher rated players. I think that Kent has done a good job in recruiting lower rated players with lots of potential. But the brand name needs to be refurbished and made more attractive ,so it will be less of a crap shoot.

I saw a video on brand Y where M Flynn is working with Mark "jingles" Cesar at his "Next Level Basketball Camp" in Tacoma Washington/ Cesar started his camp around 2013. He teamed up with God Shammagod an NBA player to start his camp. Evidently it is a well thought of training camp. He works with players on their shooting and ball handling skills. Hopefully the extra work the coug players are doing this summer will pay off in improved play and more consistency.

Washington s new coach has kept up his momentum. Ed Chang a 6'7 SF,2018 3.5 star from Nebraska has committed to the mutts. He is acclaimed as the best basketball player in Nebraska.

The uw has put a lot of players in the NBA recently, including Fultz. That is even more important than winning to a lot of recruits, Even though it is a different staff, the school still has a good name with players with NBA aspirations, which means every recruit.

USC is really loading up. In addition to Brooks from Garfield they've picked up Kevin Porter from Rainier Beach and the 6-9 Cherry kid from San Diego. The later two are both top 30 ranked players. Their 3 man class currently ranked No 1 in the country for 2018.

Fultz going #1 and IT in Boston definitely helps. Hopkins recruited at Syracuse so he's no stranger to 'high profile' recruits. He seems to unfortunately know what he's doing.

I think we have to keep getting mostly 3 star kids with upside, and hope they develop enough to compete with the one and dones at other schools when we are upper class heavy. Chidum, Acquaah, Gittens, and Ergas look like a pretty nice group. I have always like Franks and Daniels, and Flynn is a baller.

Not to mention that two years ago that uw forward Marquese Chirss was a top 10 pick and uw guard Dejounte Murray was a first round pick of the Spurs. Players do pay attention to schools that put players in the NBA.

Realistically we are only going to get 4-stars other programs ignore (Thompson), sign them before they blow up (like Ike before his senior season), or players with baggage. That's ok. You can win with 3-star players.

The area I think the staff must improve on is doing a better job projecting players like Flynn for instance and signing them in the fall. Really glad we got him but he would be playing at Pacific if they didn't have a coaching change. Projecting early and getting it right more often than wrong isn't easy but we need to get better at it. Hopefully we have that kind of staff in place.

Snagging a few 4-stars we have no business getting wouldn't hurt either.

I am waiting to see how the new staff does in recruiting. One is hopeful that we will soon start to see results. Maybe Riley Sorn,a SF and a PG in 2018?. It has been a slow day. Gonzaga is welcoming back 4 star 6'1 recruit Jesse Wade from a two year missionary stint this month. Gonzaga lost a lot of players and it will be interesting to see how the team develops.

Josh Hawkinson named Tom Hansen Medal winner. Thos medal is awarded to each PAC 12 scholar athlete based on academic achievement,.athletic achievement, and citizenship. Nicole Hare is the woman who won the award at WSU. Nicole won a gold medal for Canada in rowing in the World Championships. Both are outstanding representatives as true scholar-athletes

Ike plays for Phx in the NBA summer league tonight vs Sacramento at 7:30 on ESPN 2. If any gets a chance to watch I'd like to hear how he looks.

Former WSU recruit ,Kwintin Williams has received an offer from Connecticut,His has been a strange recruiting story.Perhaps he will end up at a good basketball University? It is July and the pickings are very slim. WSU is set for next year and will have a minimum of two scholarships available for 2018.

Word out of Stanford is that they plan on using 6'4 combo guard recruit Daejon Davis at point guard. Evidently they are lacking at point guard. From what i have seen of Davis is that he is not a point guard.Davis seemingly would be a shoot first kind of point guard .I do not see him as being able to run a team.I would like to see the cougs beat the trees after last years fiasco of a game

Team Canada just beat the USA in the FIBA Under 19 Tournament. semifinals I guess that Canada has a lot of talent .

T J Mikelson 6'1 point guard from Olympia Wa is appearing on the cougs 2017-2018 Basketball roster. He averaged 14.3 pts,8.5 assts and 7 rbs a game as a 2017 HS senior.H e was lightly recruited by the cougs . Is he a walk on player?

I watched a video from the Tacoma Tribune that I seemed to remember so there must have been some talk about him here (probably from you?) at some point. As junior there was reported interest from WSU, Oregon State, Utah, St. Mary's, and BYU. He signed with Chaminad in the fall so I'm assuming that interest didn't result in any offers from the above. No idea what happened with Chaminad.

Would be a good preferred walk-on but I can't imagine they would use a scholarship on him at this point and no reports as far as I can tell. Good find El.

Team USA beat Spain 96-72 to garner the Bronze Medal in the Under 19 Tournament. They had lost to Team Canada 99-87 in the semifinals.

Aaron Baynes has reportedly signed a one year contract with the Boston Celtics worth 4.3 mil It must be nice
