Basketball trivia

He had signed a 3 year 20 million contract with Detroit with a player opt out. So he did drop for this year.

Kwintin Williams, former coug recruit, commits to Connecticut. It seems that there is still some question as whether he can finish with a 2,5 GPA to be eligible this year. I wish the young man luck

The season is not far off. The cougs are looking like a team which may improve drastically. Many of the pundits see them as an inexperienced team which will face tough sledding . I see just the opposite in having a team with many more options on both defense and offense. The potential is there and the only player whom will be missed is Hawkinson but his production can be spread over many other players and his defense will not be missed.I see a more cohesive team with more athleticism, energy, more consistency, and better coaching. It will be Flynn s team and there will not be seniors who try to be the leaders of the team. The effort was spotty last year and against more athletic teams ,the cougs were over matched. I am most probably in the minority but we shall see how this plays out. .

Well, I agree with a lot of what you posted and hope you are spot on. We always seem to need experience but I don't know how good the conference will be relative to "most" years. Definitely like that Flynn is leading the way and a bunch of new talent in the pipeline.

I see ups and downs with a lot of excitement and that's fine with me. Doesn't mean I'll be upset if I'm wrong.

Not really a coug thing. But to follow up, Texas 5 star recruit Mamba cleared of receiving illegal gifts by the NCAA. Evidently his financial advisor and mentor has known and helped him since elementary school. Also the gifts were sporadic and deemed legal I guess Mamba s brother who made the accusations is now way out in left field.Sometimes jealousy can rip families apart. Mamba will probably receive mult.multi , millions next year and move on with his life.Unfortunate circumstances.Maybe one of these days,WSU may recruit a 5 star player.

Well then,i believe that the current composition of the team basically meets your specifications. There are about 10 guys who were rated 3 stars during their HS careers. One may quibble but the team has players who need to perform to their ratings The team also needs for a couple of players to break out and have very good years. Putting on my rose colored glasses,i foresee a NIT Bid this year. Some posters on the other board see the following year for this to happen One doomsday bloke follows a MWC team which has seen better days. I would have bet the cougs would have beaten the middle of the road MWC teams last year. Yes the top of the PAC 12 was very tough but the bottom feeders were actually better than portrayed.. The weak sisters were OSU, and udub. I think that the assembled overall talent is the best that Kent has had in his tenure at WSU. We will see if i am wrong.

New offer. WSU has offered 6'7 210 Zach Naylor from Weathersford JUCO in Texas for the 2018 class.

I agree. Not sure about NIT, but clearly the best group of upside talent in some time. I would like to see some of these guys step up as real good 3 point shooters. Not sure we have improved in that area. With the trend in the modern game it is tough to win without being able to knock down 8-10 treys per game.

I think that people will be really surprised at how good Roberto Gittens is and how much potential Chidom has. The guard play and 3 point shooting will be a strength of the team.I really think that the team will be unselfish and they have several good passers on the team.If they play tough nose defense then they may surprise some people.

Over on the other board they are making a fuss because a player Devante Doutrive is now eligible The cougs roster is set and they do not need another guard. Gittens is a far more rounded player and Kent probably will not waste a spot on this guy. He is not as good as the two Garfield high products The cougs will need front court players for 2018..He was not considering the cougs before and why should he now? I believe that a couple of fans just want to criticize Kent for not going after him.It is time to focus on 2018 recruiting.

Doutrive is talented and is rumored to be somewhat of a Molina type situation with a couple of brothers wanting to follow. I don't know if the brothers are as talented. Agree with ElC. I don't know if I would turn talent away but he didn't seem to have a major interest in us and he doesn't play a frontcourt position. Too few spots for next year to add another wing player.

Also agree. I think we are loaded at guard. If another 6-7 frosh became available that would be a different story.

Also agree. I think we are loaded at guard. If another 6-7 frosh became available that would be a different story.
I would take Aguir Agau, the 6-7 SF/PG if he was 2017 of course depending if there was a "baggage" element.

The 6'7 Agau is a far better prospect than the 6'4 Doutrive. The 6'7 210 juco Naylor is also a better prospect than him. People forget that Gittens is 6'5 205 ,he is far more college ready. He also averaged over 5 assists per game and played good defense. The point is ,why recruit a player who is not better than the people you already have on board? I see the cougs getting a big man, Riley Sorn? , a PF ,and a SF 6'7 and over for next year.

I don't know how Naylor rebounds and defends inside but he seems more PF than Wing to me. If so it would make sense why we are after him.

I would rather get a younger player but he definitely looks like a good talent. We need 3 in next years class. Agua, Sorn, Naylor would work for me.

The 7 '3 Sorn is a very interesting prospect. He has connections to WSU and lives in Eastern Washington. He runs the court well and has good timing on his blocks. Right now,it appears to be between Boise St,. OSU, and the cougs, for his services. I hear that he wants to major in aerospace engineering ?,which the beavers have a major for. The cougs engineering program is good but i do not know how that shakes out. So his recruitment is up in the air?

What happened to CU? They also have his major? Thought they offered and he liked their staff?

They were not listed but perhaps i am confusing OSU with Colorado? Colorado U is a whole different place,it is like city living, very crowded and closed in campus.Sorn has a potential big upside and i hope the cougs land him.He may get more offers before it is over.Lets hope the local kid stays home to be close to family.

Marvin Bagley the 6'11 number 1 recruit in the 2018 recruiting class may reclassify to 2017. Reports say that it is either USC or Duke. He is an immense talent and would change the 2017 season if he does so. USC is already loaded and landing Bagley would catapult them into one of the top favorites to win it all.

The cougs have offered 6'10 200 Tamell Pearson. He also has offers from Illinois,Olk State and others. He is said to be "very raw" but gifted athletically. He does not have much of a shooting touch but has put up decent numbers. He is from Illinois ,so the Illini may have an edge. He also has a five star PG teammate.who has multiple offers. He looks awkward at times but runs the court well He has grown 2 inches this past year and was a reserve on his team last year. So he is an emerging talent . It looks like Illinois is going for a package deal with the two teammates.

WSU has offered 6'9 240 juco Shaq Carter from Florida. He also has offers from Purdue,Auburn,Xavier,Wichita State, and others He is said to be of the top jucos around.

Are these guys 2018ers? I assume Seltzer is running point and likely already had a relationship with them.

These guys are all for 2018. It seems like the cougs are offering more and better players. So the staff is now working hard and hopefully will pull in some good players. When it is all and done, i see the cougs as having 4 scholarships available for 2018.

Got a note on Twitter that Curtis Allen started following El Abaev 6'8" wing. Don't know if it means anything or not.

I just watched some new tapes of Roberto Gittens ,This guy is 6'5 205-215 pds and is extremely gifted athletically. He had 79 dunks last year and is a great passer with great floor vision He also beat the 2017 number 1 draft pick of the NBA in a dunk contest..He will start for the cougs next year at least by the midway point. He can shoot it outside and will be able to put those 6'4 180 pd 4 stars on his hip and move them all over the court.I think that the coug fans will see a lot of high flying dunks next year from Gittens and his new teammates.

As far as Doutrive goes if we can get him I say take him. He might not be exactly what we need as far as personnel goes but he is to talented to pass on. One of the things that has my optimism for WSU basketball on the up swing is the potential depth/ competition for positions and playing time. We signed Gittens so we like to believe he is a superstar but you never know till they hit the court. We have all see can't miss recruits tank and we've all seen overlooked recruits blossom. A recruit of this caliber can't hurt.

Always glad to hear your comments as we sometimes disagree but you seem to be connected to basketball and have sound comments. As for Gittens,i think that he has the skills set and the physical ability to become a star. However, the mental part of the game will decide how he adjusts and plays.. As i posted earlier,a coach s comments." coaching is not criticism" and how he reacts is key. A coach like Seltzer can help him adjust and learn. If he does not respond well,he may indeed may wash out at WSU.The players who listen and learn can maximize their abilities. The players who rebel and fight coaching ,move on.

WSU has offered 6'6 shooting guard Miller Kopp from Houston Texas. He also has offers from Houston,KSU,Wichita State ,Butler and others.

Seems like a noticeable upgrade in quality offers since Seltzer and Haskins came on board

Kopp is an intelligent ,highly instinctual player with a great outside shot.He has high academics and good court vision. He is the type of player who will help a lot of teams by being in the right place at the right time. He is now listed at 6'7 210 pds, so he is a small swing forward. And yes the quality of player,at least as far as rankings, being recruited has improved .

I just saw a video of Shaq Carter 6'9 240 juco,. who is being recruited by the cougs. He is an athletic big man with very good athleticism. He runs the court extremely well and has good hops. He is a highly active player who works hard on both ends of the court. His game seems to be from 10 feet in but i have no problems with that.

WSU has offered 6'8240 PF juco Morris Udeze. He also hold offers from Illinois,Houston,Wichita State,UNM,NMSU ,and others. Udeze seems to be a good all around big man, He was rated at 3 -4 stars coming out of HS. He averaged 12 pts and 7.7 rbs a game last year. It seems like the cougs are concentrating in PF s at both the HS and juco ranks. I would guess that the staff is happy with the wing players and guards. So they will probably not be picking up any more guards like a few posters want them to do.

Where are they now? Trevor Dunbar spent 1 season at San Francisco Community College. He averaged 11.6 pts,2.9 rbs and 5.1 assts. He shot 47% and 37.3 % from the 3 pt line.. He supposedly worked on his shooting after leaving from WSU. He did not finished his class work and is now playing basketball in the Philippines.

Where are they now? Coner Clifford scored 21 points for his New Image team in the Drew League. He received player of the game note. I do not know how he is doing in other games

I read an article on the other board which states that Franks and Daniels are ready to lead the team this year.It will be hard to be leaders off the bench I see Daniels playing time being drastically reduced and Franks seeing less minutes. If this does not happen then the team will be as bad as some posters are predicting. Experience does not necessarily mean a better player..I see Bernsteine,Cooper and Pollard getting meaningful minutes this year. I see Daniels being lost in the shuffle as the season progresses at the guard position.

Daniels is s bit undersized, but he plays d, gets up and down the floor and can shoot. If Chidum can beat Franks out for minutes, more power to him but I think Franks could really have a breakout year. He showed glimpses last year.
