Go with an up and comer instead.Someone with name and cache that doesnt need the money but still wants to coach .
Short term they probably should step out of the bowl game .
Timing sucks as Jason Eck would have been a nice fit.
Is WSU a better job than UNM?Eck would have been solid. WSU is a better job than UNM. Not that either are all that great at this time.
Maybe he Mike Price'd and didn't sign the contract.
That's a hard no, and also Meyer isn't ever coaching at Wazzu. Neuheisel? When did he coach in college last time?Someone with name and cache that doesnt need the money but still wants to coach .

How about when was the last time Neuheisel was actually successful? 2000?That's a hard no, and also Meyer isn't ever coaching at Wazzu. Neuheisel? When did he coach in college last time?
Reach out to Urban Meyer/Rick Neuheisel
I don’t think grabbing guys who’ve been enjoying the tv life is really the way to go.Ed, with all due respect to your suggestion, those two coaches harbored killers on their teams
If you see a guy wearing this T-shirt, ask him if he goes by CougEd on the message boards.Ed, with all due respect to your suggestion, those two coaches harbored killers on their teams
Strippers? Like Oregon does?I don’t think grabbing guys who’ve been enjoying the tv life is really the way to go.
They’ve made their money and had their success at the highest college level how motivated are they gonna be to win a p12 title which is basically the equivalent of a MWC title?
Gotta find someone hungry to win at the FBS level. I think there’s plenty of guys that can coach, recruiting is the wild card. Its always been hard selling Pullman, it’s become that much harder in the last couple of years.
This business is as dirty as it’s ever been though, so I say F it and go all in on being dirty. Have strippers in the FOB, ignore “dead periods” and contact players whenever you want to. F the NCAA, they aren’t policing shit anymore anyways.
what two "murders"Ed, with all due respect to your suggestion, those two coaches harbored killers on their teams
We need a name that buys us three years .And if it costs an extra mil we dont have, find it.I don’t think grabbing guys who’ve been enjoying the tv life is really the way to go.

Pete is tanned rested and ready to step in @USCSince this is a ridiculous thread anyway, I'll just say Pete Carroll. Not that it will ever happen.....

I'm thinking Bama fires DeBoer next season and Jennifer Cohen hires him at USC.Pete is tanned rested and ready to step in @USC
Neuheisel isn't a name. And he's a bum. I guess Myer still has some cache. But it makes no sense. We need a name that buys us three years .And if it costs an extra mil we dont have, find it.
These guys very rarely get coaching completely out of their blood
Why?F * C K the Weasel.
Definitely on my All time hate list
I just gave Idaho a call. They had to put me on hold because a call came in from Dennis Erickson. Then I called Anne McCoy. She couldn't talk because she was waiting for a call from Dennis Erickson.Someone with name and cache that doesnt need the money but still wants to coach .

Oh I am sure Dennis would love to coach againI just gave Idaho a call. They had to put me on hold because a call came in from Dennis Erickson. Then I called Anne McCoy. She couldn't talk because she was waiting for a call from Dennis Erickson.
WSU is a three year job.. so you hire Montana States coach and he sniffs success. Your roster and coaches and coach get swept awayNeuheisel isn't a name. And he's a bum. I guess Myer still has some cache. But it makes no sense.
Kicking the can down the road three years does what? Creates a HC opening for Jerry Neuheisel?
Meyer does for WSU what Deon did for CUNeuheisel isn't a name. And he's a bum. I guess Myer still has some cache. But it makes no sense.

Your brain is stuck in 1983.WSU is a three year job.. so you hire Montana States coach and he sniffs success. Your roster and coaches and coach get swept away
Should try to get the James Madison coach, but I'm a) doubtful we could afford him, and b) is WSU a better job?
Any thoughts on how Dickert will do at Wake Forest? Tough job. About as good as he could get, though.
By the way, Wake Forest's endowment fund is about double that of Wazzu's. Small school. He's going to have a tough time winning there, even if the unstable ACC is a not strong conference.
We always have been a stepping stoneYour brain is stuck in 1983.
We’re going to have to build the program as being a stepping stone.
No need for a Soviet style three year plan then.We always have been a stepping stone
When Dennis took the Vandal job Vandals paid him 200k i think. The other four million was covered by the 49ers.We couldn't afford him...says he makes 7M per year as a Fox analyst...
All of the coaches can last 5 years if they wanted, we just need to get the boat centered. But feel free to put your faith in an unproven commodity. No need for a Soviet style three year plan then.
Well, Neuheisel has proven he's not worth hiring. When Dennis took the Vandal job Vandals paid him 200k i think. The other four million was covered by the 49ers.
Who knows if you don't ask. Maybe ending his coaching career where the pressure is not what it is at Ohio State, and may

Realistically, if it's someone with head coach experience it's someone at the FCS level. Young, hungry, and probably looking for a stepping stone and can bring a staff that would actually get a pay bump plus players. When Dennis took the Vandal job Vandals paid him 200k i think. For the unconventional path, you're talking about plucking a crusty old dude from FCS, DII or something like that? Two completely different ideas here from me. One the standard way they'll probably go, and the second something unconventional that could make sense.
Convntional path:
Get Vigen if they can. Yes, he's going to be featured in every article about openings at bigger programs from the day he's on campus, and he'll probably leave within 2-3 years if he does well. That's reality, though. Dickert probably would have gone the Smith route last year if he had finished the year better. All of these guys either are going to fail or get hired somewhere else inside of 3-4 years, and they'll likely leave with their first 8-5 year. That's just reality.
Unconventional path:
A completely different way to go is to get an older guy who just is a damned good coach, and who won't leave even if the team does OK, just because he isn't out there chasing every dollar and doesn't want to go to a high-pressure program, even if it means 3-5x the money, and those programs won't want him anyway since they know his life stage. This could work particularly well if the guy ran a system, something the program could be or become known for. This is especially great if he has a son or some other close figure who he could groom to take over the job. Then you still have to worry about the son being poached and having to do this all over again, but at that point, you may have had 5-10 years of solid football and a pretty stable roster, recruitment, and coaching situation. Like, say, what Air Force has had going for a while until this past season.
Running a system--a football equivalent to the pack defense, perhaps, if it isn't completely obvious where I'm going with this--always has made some sense at WSU, but now, with the disadvantages getting worse and multiplying in number, now could be the time. Yeah, you're likely capping yourself at being a plucky 8-5 or 9-4 team absent something extraordinary, but outside of praying for a year where absolutely everything comes together, WSU practically is capped at that anyway. Further, even in the scenario where you hire the next great head coach, and he has that one big year where we go 10-3 and lose a decent bowl game after that coach leaves and half our roster is poached, it all blows up then anyway, and I'm not convinced our likelihood of that is much greater, if at all, with the conventional path than the system/service academy-style program path anyway,

Idaho has a coach (and it isn't Erickson).I just gave Idaho a call. They had to put me on hold because a call came in from Dennis Erickson. Then I called Anne McCoy. She couldn't talk because she was waiting for a call from Dennis Erickson.
BingoSince most of these ideas are ridiculous here is another:
Contact the Saudis. we need LIV money. Gets them into the US College football market, be the best g-5 school money can buy, and you make the playoffs every year. While they are at it. get them to throw a couple 100 million into research dollars, so now we are a football school and academic powerhouse.
Thomas Ford?Idaho has a coach (and it isn't Erickson).
