OT: Idaho Murder trial moved to Ada County.

I saw that earlier this week.

Not sure why the feet dragging, but if they honestly think they can get a better jury in Boise they are delusional. EVERYONE in the nw has heard about this.
Not sure how much it matters who’s heard about it once they show dna evidence found in his car it’s curtains. No way he’s not completely cooked.

I wonder if we will truly be west coast only...or if we go east

A voice of reason. So who? UNLV obviously. Then either Wyoming or Air Force or SJSU or UNR or Utah State? In that order.

I don't like this setup, but it is what it is. At 8 teams, we need to have our 5 non-con games against P4 teams. Or at lest G5 teams. mutts, CalFurd, FUSC/FUCLA (those would be away games). The Big-12 traitors might do home and homes.
Honestly, if those are the choices I have to go with SJSU. They at least give us an appearance in the Bay Area. Wyoming and Reno don’t have market or recruiting grounds, Air Force and Utah state are only marginally better for either. Plus, most years having SJSU on the schedule is like playing an FCS team without actually playing an FCS team.

Sky isn’t falling

Spare me. Teresa only cares about keeping her job, which will only happen by keeping the Pac-2/8/12 alive. We will pay through the nose for this (I read that we are likely to "help" with the exit fees in addition to the $47M poaching penalty). And we haven't snared UNLV (yet), arguably the cherry on top of the MW sundae.

The games against BSU. SDSU and FSU will take on extra meaning this year. Bummer that we only play SDSU next year. I looked at the other 3 team's schedules for 2025. All are filled up, but each has an FCS game that they could probably buy out in favor of facing us instead. Problem is those are all home game #6 for them, so we would likely have to hit the road to play them. As of now we only have 3 of our 6 at home, so we would be scrambling to find 3 more home games if we threw them in. We'll be scrambling as it is.
some of the ADs indicated more of repayable loans and fundraising for exit fees. Pac12 assistance for the alliance fees.

The victim's family members. Anyone who has to testify (police, sheriff's office, etc.) The prosecutor's staff includes folks who have school age children who will be inpacted.
OK. But other than the prosecutor's staff, why would anyone have to move? Testifiers would be called in when it is their time. If the victim's families want to sit through every day of this nightmare, I guess it is their choice. I wouldn't want to relive it for 3 months. I'd be there when the POS went on the stand for sure. But granted this is just a horrible thing all around.

It's taking so long because the defense is challenging everything. The amount of paperwork is no doubt staggering. Which, of course, makes sense as that is the defense's job, esp. in a death penalty case. And even though Latah County won't physically be feeding him, we are still responsible for paying for the trial.

And the judge is right - the courthouse is too small. There isn't enough staff. It's too close to the high school. And the defense came up with some survey of "local" residents that basically said that he couldn't get a fair trial and if he got off they'd burn the courthouse down, etc. etc. (BTW I was never contacted for a survey and don't know anyone that was and also don't know anyone with such crazy radical views.) Judge didnt have much of a choice.

I feel bad for all those who will basically have to put their lives on hold to move down to Boise for the trial.
I don’t see how anyone can be surprised this is being moved, I think that should have been expected from day 1.
The challenges and filings about everything are common delay tactics…especially for a defense that doesn’t have a defense.
Even if the admittedly mostly circumstantial evidence released in the probably cause affidavit didn’t have me pretty convinced of his guilt, his behavior since arrest does. Innocent people don’t submit to staying in jail for 2 years without a fight.

I lean normally toward following the money and larger markets / exposure. That said, I believe there is long-term value, potentially including longer-run financial value, in positioning the Pac-12 as a true western conference, clearly the best of the G of 5/6 and aspirationally Power 5 over time, with limited travel and where athletes on the west coast can get legitimate national-level exposure, preparation for the next level, and a legitimate shot at the playoff, all without absurd travel and disruption to student-athletes' lives like what UCLA is going through this year. That should help the conference keep some players that otherwise might default toward the P4 conferences, and the pitch should resonate with a lot of transfers who originally went outside the footprint. It might also help head off some transfers we otherwise would see.

This doesn't mean the conference couldn't adjust to what happens and ultimately expand geographically. It's not the only way to go. But it's an opportunity to do something that could set the conference apart. It also is relatively easy and cheap, while involving less direct risk, which leads me to think it's what we will see.

Who will have to move? I don't follow. The prosecutor and some staff I suppose.

Tastiest dog breed thread - poll coming

Who are you talking to or about? Trump? Yeah he's old. I'm not.

I have been musing more about dogs and cats. Cats are too scrawny to bother with, and they kind of taste like mouse. I'm thinking Dachshund is the best choice. Plump, nice size to slide onto the spit, small enough to fit in the oven whole.

I'm getting hungry now. Think I'll slip off to the dog park and prowl for dinner.
Hey, I don’t do voodoo but you, do you!

Peace, Bro!

GO, COUGS! 💥

I saw that. Shouldn't make any difference, at least now Latah County won't have to feed the bastard. Still don't understand why this trial is taking so long to happen.

From the article:
"there were not enough county sheriff deputies, court clerks or courthouse space to accommodate such a big trial."

"The trial is expected to begin in June 2025 and last about three months."

Gawd I love America (which is why I'm voting for Kamala - oops wrong board) but Geezus Christ why do we have to wait ANOTHER 9 months, and how could it possibly be a 3 month trial? There is I believe one "witness", the roommate, the DNA evidence, whatever phone records that can show that he was or wasn't there, and some alibi that he supposedly has. OK, there's about two days. What the hell will account for the next 88 days? Our justice system is so F-ed up.

Maybe some group of vigilantes will hijack the transport van and do justice around New Meadows.

I feel good about this move. Would have loved the invite from the Big 12 but since it’s not coming, good for our leadership for leaning in and doing the hard work of building the best conference they can from nothing.

Yeah, that's right. The trial is being moved to Ada County ASAP.

Hot off the press -Thoughts

This isn't speculation - the B1G and SEC have openly talked about doing this within the next 5 years; its going to happen. All of the lower tier P4 schools are going to be left with their d!ck in their hands waiting for the scraps to fall from the adult table of their former conference members.

The bottom halves of the B1G, SEC and the majority of the ACC and B12 should be making plans to do their own thing. Take a long hard look in the mirror and realize that you aren't going to be invited to the adult table and move forward. Align with all the other rejects to not take bodybag games from the NFL lite and do your completely own thing.
Tricky thing to pull off in any concrete way, especially with open records laws and that kind of thing, years in advance. The bottom feeders in the B1G and SEC, especially, aren't doing anything to jeopardize their current status before it all actually blows up, and most teams in the B1G and ACC won't be included no matter what they do, subject to uncertainty over the size of the super league. That said, I agree they should at least be thinking about contingency plans and understanding their place. At this point, I hope they move to establish the super league sooner rather than later if it's inevitable. The sooner the chaos, the better-positioned WSU is likely to be.
