1990 - Oh brother. The NFL's scheduling is your comparison? Well gee then, why does exactly NO ONE do this in CFB? I think NM State did it one-year decades ago because they were desperate for games.

7I - you agree with what? There's this cool thing called "reply to post". Helps others understand what you are replying to.

I don't know what is worse - Biggs and his non-stop Dickert/WSU hate, or you Anne/Teresa apologists.
sac state is a non starter, as was your plan to go "hat in hand to the MWC, and BEG for admission" we are trying to stay at least somewhat relevent and you are seemingly intent on putting us on a fast track to big sky status

Are you telling me I lack understanding? In hindsight, it is clear that Teresa Gould, upon ascension to the Pac throne in February, had no intention of pursuing the merger that was spelled out in the December 2023 Pac/MW scheduling agreement. Thus, one could surmise that she and her bosom buddy Anne were pretty sure that we weren't going to re-up the scheduling agreement for year 2. That was mid-February, 8 months ago. So don't give me this "last minute" shit.

That said, I agree that most schedules are mostly filled years in advance. But there was way more wiggle room in February than October. We sat on our hands and did nothing for 6 months.
You have part of the story, but not the entire story. The Pac 2 and Teresa soon found that Gloria played extreme hardball with the two schools. They tried to negotiate a fair deal, but Gloria wanted to win in a route. OSU and WSU were in a time crunch and needed to schedule games, so they accepted a horrible deal. A deal that we were paying MWC schools, whether we were at home or on the road, payouts that Ohio State, and Notre Dame pay for body bag games in their own house.

But it also showed the Pac 2 that they wanted no part of Gloria. That is why basketball went to the WCC, because they were reasonable. It also showed the two schools that we would be treated like stepchildren like the uw is finding out they are now in the Big Ten with the Friday night games, the 9:30am games, and being relegated to the little watched Big Ten Network.

It was never about Teresa being power hungry.

Beav's Home-and-Home

Yeah, this. Can I start anew in talking shit about how over her head and incompetent Anne McCoy is? Let's just schedule Umess and UC'mon as away games and be done with it. A home and home is sort of the ultimate in BS scheduling. We already had them at home. I'd rather beg for a different road game for a paycheck than do that. Pathetic.

Oh and speaking of incompetent, Who the F is our 8th Pac going to be? Figured out your TV media prospects yet Teresa? I will stick with Sac State. Lot's up potential upside, in the #20 media market, smack in the middle of our footprint. Cannot be any worse than perennial bottom-10 dweller Utah State......

And OSU's (now full) schedule isn't much better. Note that Sam Houston St. is just up from the FCS, and is bowl-eligible this year. App State joined the FBS in 2014.

That's not an answer. I asked what your solution was (the Pac's 8th member). Do you have ideas here? If not, then why put my ideas down? At least I have an idea. This is a message board, for exchanging ideas. Your post above is pretty much just jibberish. So throw out a name or two, and why we should go with them.
The obvious answer is the obvious.

And edit - OSU's equally incompetent AD Scott Barnes had this to say: "We elected to play two games against Washington State in order to maximize the strength of this schedule," said Oregon State AD Scott Barnes in OSU's release.

Sorry, but I'm a very big Scott Barnes fan. He's done a great job for Oregon State. John Canzano interviewed Barnes today, from the 5:38 mark to about the 22:30 mark. Discussion is about the 2025 football schedules - including OSU vs WSU x 2 - and future conference expansion (no specific schools mentioned).

Putting together college football schedules in a year's time is apparently very difficult to do. Hence this ridiculous deal we got from the MWC for 2024.

As an Oregon Stater, I don't mind playing the Cougs twice next year. If we get another TV deal with the CW, then there's two weekends we'll be able to provide a game to their viewers.

Looking at the WSU schedule, I'm a little surprised:
* no Stanford or Cal
* just SDSU, and none of the other future PAC-12 schools
* no Sacramento State

If Sac State is so eager to join the PAC-12, then they need to make themselves available to play in Pullman if need be. While yes, they're a FCS school, it would give the Cougs 7 home games.

What surprises me is the lack of understanding of situation we are in currently. There is no great answer. Most schedules are made years in advance where a school only needs to find 3 games because 9 of them are conference games. What they have done to put together a 12 game schedule at the last minute when most schools have had their entire schedule complete long before we needed to schedule so many games has been outstanding.

I survived the Wulff era. I can survive WSU playing OSU twice in a season.

How about: “Let the professionals do their job”

I’ll tell you what I would never do: negotiate business deals openly, in the press.

For this, Ann McCoy earns my praise.

There are few better examples that fit the old phrase, “Let it play out”, than this one.

Toledo

I wonder if Stanford or Cal are in the works.

It would seem to me that establishing future series with them would help out with their scheduling.

I do like the idea of a week zero game that could create flexibility. I'd go with week zero in Seattle against a good opponent (SEC) as well.
Stanford could still be in the mix. They have one opening (maybe 2 as they play at Hawaii in Week 0). Cal is full.

Beav's Home-and-Home

I don't agree. It is another game for strength of schedule for one season. The NFL plays a home and away and it is by far the most popular league in America. So, it is the opposite of high school. Is it something we want to do all the time? Of course not. But we were put in a crazy situation, and we are making the best of it.

Nothing screams “We are a Power Conference” louder than adding the #142 ranked team to the mix, AmIright?

Toledo

I missed the announcement on this. Toledo is on the schedule for next year. 2-3 more to go. I believe we only need 11. And can do a home and home with the Beavs if needed.

It makes sense, as their Athletic Director, Brian Blair, was in the WSU athletic department before he was hired by Toledo. So, the parties know each other, and he wanted to help WSU.

Beav's Home-and-Home

Probably the right thing to do, but it sure screams High School.
