Beasley

I won't link it because that's a no-no, but Brand X has an article on A Night with Cougar Athletics, including a short interview with Chun.

There was a quote on Beasley, which I will copy and paste:

"Chun told the faithful that planning is underway for a new basketball complex and arena for the women's and men's teams. Beasley Coliseum is 50 years old this year. He noted that 11 of the 12 schools in the Pac-12 have modern basketball complexes, as do each of the four schools rumored to be on the conference's expansion list. More details on proposed project will be coming in the months ahead."

In a perfect world I would say sure. In the real world, I say NO. Beasley, while dated, is a big solid place with a great location. Renovate it, modernize it, expand the guts of it (who has been in the bowels? I have), sure. But build a new arena? Does that mean tear Beasley down? Or put up a second building elsewhere, which would go where? Out on the golf driving range? In place of the rec playfields?

Idaho's funky new 4,200 seat arena cost $51 million, completed 2 years ago. What are we trying to build? We need at least twice that many seats. Beasley holds 12,000 for basketball, and I am sure that many of you saw it packed during the Raveling, Sampson (at least that Cal game) and Bennett years. When full that place is awesome. We also see it packed during concerts and (my daughter's) graduation.

So what? With declining enrollment, $75 ? million in accumulated athletic deficits not to even mention the Martin stadium debt (2 different things), and an iffy Pac-12 conference future we are going to build a what - $100 million arena? Or $150 million if we are going to raze and replace Beasley?

A big fat nosey from this Coug. I won't give dime one for this insanity.

CWL Set the Tourney Record for Scoring

wow...I didn;t know this.

Just saw this in an article in USA today. She scored 76.

Yes, she did it in 4 games as opposed to 3, but that makes it all the more impressive imo as the road to get there was harder.

This was a good article in USA today.

Apple Plus sports

Have been curious on the MLS deal they got as well as MLB.

I personally see no downside for a College Sports streaming service on Apple TV. You don't need the cable companies to carry it. It would seem that simply converting the current Pac-12 network subscribers to a new platform that pays more would be a good business strategy. Ad other markets and alumnii in the mix, could add up to real dollars very quickly.

More Las Vegas

Yeah, screw UNLV. Who would want to go to that place? Other than the NFL, NHL, WNBA, and now maybe MLB and the NBA. Why the hell would the Pac 12 want to roost there?

And we sure as hell don't want to do anything there, period. Except for, wait, the Men's and Women's Pac12 BB tournaments?

Lady COUGS WIN Pac-12 Championship Title 65-61 over UCLA!

Against UCLA. Way to go!

First Pac-12 title game appearance in program history.

2pm. ESPNU

Pac-12 Basketball Tournaments

Surprised nothing posted on the women's win over Cal. I wasn't able to watch the game but looks like a nice comeback from a halftime deficit. Looks like neither team shot well, only 10% from deep.

Possible men's scenarios:

1. Best and most unlikely. Both us and Colorado win, and Oregon loses to both Bay Area's moves us up to a 5 seed.

2. Possible. Both us and Colorado win. Moves us up to a 6 seed.

3. Probable. Either we or Colorado or both lose we stay a 7 seed. Da Silva is probably out for Colorado.

Pullman Greyhounds, GSL

OK can one of you Spokaloo or Pullman denizens explain this to me? Pullman apparently won the GSL. To quote the article, "The Pullman Greyhounds’ (22-0, 12-0 2A/3A/4A Greater Spokane League) 11-point championship victory was....."

WTF is 2A/3A/4A? What happened to the Frontier league? I'm very confused.

Smith and Kammie

Get them locked up . Pay extra. Smith has shown he will find talent . Long talent .

He showed he can play the portal game . Out goes Roberts and his singleminded game . The ball now moves. If he had jaki from start of the season he would be ncaa bound .

Kammie is a top five coach in the country . And even more than that her teams play with such passion . Not just intensity but they love the game .

WTF - mutt game and TV

Geezus - WTF is it with our TV shit? The mutt game is on ESPNU, which I don't f-ing get even with Spectrum plus the sports package. I can get the class B HS playoff game though.

Why the F isn't it at least on the Pac-12 network Washington channel, which I do get. Oh wait, it, and the Pac-12 Oregon channel, both have the women's OSU vs, . Colorado women's game.

Goddam ridiculous. Oh but let's form a super conference to fix our TV revenue issues.

Oh and gee - I can get Pepperdine vs Pacific on ESPN1......

What the PAC 12 needs to do going forward

Go retro. Didn't it used to be just called the Pacific Athletic Conference, after being the Pacific Coast Conference? Then it became the PAC 8, then the PAC 10, then the PAC 12. Just drop the damn number, Call it simply the PAC. That we it won't matter how many teams are added or dropped, it will ALWAYS be the PAC. Simple, sensible, timeless, and will not need any further changes in the future unless a possible large scale merger happens, which is unlikely.

We have several conferences that cannot count properly. For a while the Big 10 had 12, and the Big 12 had 10. Now the Atlantic 10 has 15, The Big 10 has 14, and the Big 12 still has only 10. How stupid does all THAT make you look?

The numbered conference is dead, long live the PAC!
