IPF update

Great news.

Got this email earlier today :

We have wonderful news to share!

We are excited to inform you that we have selected the design-build team of AECOM, Design West Architects, and Garco Construction to build the Taylor Sports Complex.

AECOM is no stranger to Washington State University, having designed projects such as the Premium Seating Building at Gesa Field and are currently teaming up with Pullman-based firm, Design West, on the basketball arena feasibility study. Design West is also familiar with campus having been involved with several projects throughout the university.

On a national stage, AECOM spearheaded recent projects with athletic departments across the nation, including the indoor practice facilities at the University of Houston, Marshall University, and the University of Miami.

Garco Construction, an award-wining Spokane company, carries a reputation of excellence across the country with 44 years of experience and over 2,000 projects completed. One of Garco’s current projects is the new 5,000 seat Downtown Spokane Stadium for youth football, USL soccer, and other sports.

We will continue to share updates on the progress of the Taylor Sports Complex, including plans for the groundbreaking ceremony this fall.

Thank you for investing in this vital project for WSU Athletics. We are grateful for your generosity to the university and lifting up our student-athletes. Our future is bright because of YOU!

Go Cougs!

Totally off topic - Social Security

I thought this might be fun. Below is a link to a CNN article discussing the impending "insolvency" Of SS and Medicare.

As the good (retired and now getting SS) accountant that I am, I can't help but laugh about the supposed "trust funds" that are going to go sideways soon. The truth is, there is no trust fund. It's an accounting gimmick. The surpluses to date just went into the overall federal budget over the years and were spent on whatever. There is no fund. So when it "goes insolvent", that just means that taxes must be raised to fund it. Just like taxes benefitted from all those decades of surpluses. Dirty little secret that No one talks about.

Americans are so F-ing oblivious and stupid.

You know what has kept WSU from the tourney the last 14 years?

Inability to hit free throws down the stretch and folding under the weight of the press in the last four minutes.

Even during the Bone years....Klay's junior season Bone last game of the year for the tourney had a great game plan against UCLA. Win and you are in. WSU led by 20 and couldn't hit a free throw down the stretch. Cost the program potentially momentum and Bone and staff were lame ducks at that point.

The missed free throws last few years I couldn't tell you how many games it cost WSU. Bamba hits 4 our of 6 against CU and we win.

Eastern WA

Have any of you been following Eastern WA this season? They've won 15 straight and are 13-0 in Big Sky play. This is a team we beat by 26 points earlier this season. The craziest thing to me is that virtually all of their games during their winning streak have been close. I think only 2 of them have been by more than 10 pts.

former players

Wonder if anyone really cares about Noah coming in tomorrow? Can't say that it makes much difference to me. I was excited when he decided to come to WSU and enjoyed some of his play
while he was here. But with his injury he really hasn't done much for the Daugs.

Some seem to be making a big deal of his return. What do u think?

WSU Enrollment, Zags and Big-12

The Spokesman article is subscriber only (I'm not) so tough to read. The Daily News gives you two freebies a month.

So Gonzaga - this makes absolutely no sense. They don't play football and never will. Their men's and women's BB teams are good. BFD. They are a runt school. Academics? The Big-12 doesn't care about that, unlike the Pac-12.

WSU and enrollment. 3 years in a row of declines? Although once you enroll a small class, it haunts you for 4-5 years. I need to go look at the actual numbers over the last few years. Funny that Idaho seems to be rebounding after years of enrollment struggles. Will be interesting to watch - Pullman continues to throw up apartment complexes right and left. At what point does this bite the town and developers in the butt, much like back in the 70's/80's(?) when enrollment stagnated.

So my Uber driver in Atlanta was talking...

...and he told us that his nephew was the Arkansas star HS QB recruit. They had just been to Fayetteville a week or two previously to sit with one of the senior Waltons, who was the guarantor of the nephew's NIL deal. The kid's whole family was flown out for the sit down with the senior Walton. The driver would only say that it was 6 figures, and that if his nephew managed to earn a starting spot, he would be a millionaire by the time he left school. This guy was obviously not wealthy and I was not snarky enough to ask what would happen to the deal if he doesn't ever start.

Just thought y'all (see, I do pick up things while out of town!) would find this small factoid interesting.

Strategic thinking RE: Pac-10/12 future alignment

It's being rumored that the conference is still not in alignment with what's on the table regarding the new TV deal and/or the possibilities to add to the conference. (per the twitters).

From my perspective, why not hire a consulting firm to evaluate creating alignment and a super conference that's been discussed. As Moos stated last summer, doing something with the Big-12 makes a lot of logical and logical sense.
