History video...

We have a history and one to be proud of. The link is to a video I just found. It's been out for a while but I don't remember it ever being posted here. This truly made me proud. We have a great past. And Sponge, you can call me a cheerleader on this post. I'm proud to say I'm a Coug. And I do believe we are building a program to get us back where we can add highlights to this video. Roll the tape!!!

BTW, this video made me miss 2 things:
1. Bob Rob calling a touchdown…
2. the old Butch

2017 schedule

I was looking at our future schedules today, and 2017 caught my eye. We're scheduled to start the year with 3 consecutive home games.

9/2 vs. Nevada
9/9 vs. Boise St.
9/16 vs. Montana St.

Looks like a Seattle game vs. Boise St. is in order. No way do we play 3 straight September games in Pullman.

A couple of baseball questions and a comment

I noticed that this year's WSU baseball team had a considerable number of underclassmen. Why? Recruiting success, a fluke, upperclassmen quitting or some other reason?

Posts have been made regarding Marbut's supposed lack of popularity with players, donors, the AD staff, etc. Why? Lack of success on the field, some personality failure or another reason? What's going on there?

Many posters have noted Pullman's weather being a problem for baseball. I am probably wrong again but I don't see it that way at all. Sure, it is cold in January and early February but an IPF would solve much of that issue. Early Spring is much more favorable in Pullman than other NW teams. The sun is shining, birds are chirping in Pullman when the Willamette Valley and Seattle are still overcast with water dripping from the eaves and their playing fields are in various states of sogginess. An IPF transitioning into a Palouse Springtime does it for me. Is there a factor that I am not aware of?

SEC and windfall profits

With the SEC getting more and more money from TV contracts I have notice one obvious impact. For years the PAC12 dominated softball, over the last 5 years that domination has vanished, new better facilities, wider recruiting networks getting premier level cal athletes and hiring premier level coaching (Auburn hired ASU all time winning coach).

The same is beginning to happen in women's soccer, money rules and the SEC programs made $10 mil more than the PAC this last year and their numbers are projected to increase. Th SEC network is the 5th most valuable sports network in the nation.

Stability the key? AD/President?

So I was reading an article about UO (Oklahoma) and they were talking about how Stoops was making some offensive changes, yadda yadda (how I found the article. Mentions CML) but how Stoops has been at UO for 16 years. Only Beamer at V Tech has been in one place longer (26 years… wow).

But it also mentions an interesting point. Stoops has had 1 AD and 1 school president to deal with his entire tenure there. That's incredible. But it's hard to dig up too much on this kind of statistic when looking at other schools… How long has Ohio State had that stability in those key positions? How long at Texas, how long at… you get my point.

While I know that is a portion of how a school can start to build, is it the first domino to a successful program? Is the idea of shuffling the AD around, bring in new ideas, etc. etc. more of a detriment? Coaching aside, just the AD and Prez… Can it be fluid or does a foundation (not changing a whole bunch) have to be in place for optimal success?

Article made the old gears think about the foundation of a successful program and what WSU needs to do. Don't know if Moos/Floyd are it but it just got me thinking.

CFB news tidbits - UAB, Mark May, and WSU on TV

Sure, it's OT, but there's not much going on and it seems better to talk about unrelated news than to continue beating various dead horses.

Tidbit #1: Seems that UAB has changed their minds, under pressure from the fans. They're not going to cut football after all. Story link here

Tidbit #2: Seems that ESPN has decided that after Lou Holtz improved their programming by retiring, they should improve it more by dumping windbag Mark May. Another link here. He's always been clueless and irritating. The only time he wasn't the worst football announcer out there was when he was paired with Trev Alberts.

Tidbit #3: The early TV pickups have been announced (linked on front page). WSU has 3 so far: Portland State and Wyoming on Pac-12 Network, Apple Cup on one of the Fox channels. On the negative side, the PSU game now starts at 11 AM, so we've already lost any of the day-tripping fans who have kids in soccer, etc. The Wyoming game is at 5:30.
